Prince Henry cliff walk

The cliff walk was exactly what I wanted and needed.

I was alone practically the entire time. The path was easy to follow and was little more than slopes so easy to traverse. Whenever there was a second path to a lookout I took it and was rewarded for my efforts.

The view over the valley below and to the next moutains is stunning. Impossible to describe accurately.Read more

Blue Mountains

So, nun haben wir die erste Nacht im Campervan verbracht. Wir haben grundsätzlich gut geschlafen, der Regen auf dem Dach war jedoch etwas laut.
Voller Energie machten wir uns dann in warmer Wanderausrüstung zu Fuss auf den Weg. Es war neblig und kühl, trotzdem freuten wir uns auf die Berge "Three sisters" und die verschiedenen Wasserfälle⛰️.
Na ja, die Berge haben wir aufgrund der schlechten Wetterlage überhaupt nicht gesehen 🌫. Die Wanderung in dem mystischen Wald, welcher uns an einen Regenwald / Dschungel erinnerte, gefiel uns aber trotzdem. Wir konnten viele einheimische Vögel beobachten. Ausserdem entdeckten wir immer wieder eindrückliche Wasserfälle🦜.
Nach der vierstündigen Wanderung sind wir im herzigen Städtchen Leura angekommen, kauften uns Schokoladen-Spezialitäten und gönnten uns einen Kuchen und Kaffee in einem kleinen Lokal 😋.
Schliesslich ging es mit dem einzigen Bus des Tages wieder zum Campingplatz zurück.
Hier planten wir die bevorstehenden Tage, kochten Pasta mit Pesto und genossen einen ruhigen, regnerischen Abend im Camper 📖.
Traditionellerweise probierten wir die australische Spezialität "TimTam" mit Milch und waren begeistert 😅.

Die zweite Nacht war schon etwas ruhiger und wir haben uns an das kürzere Bett gewöhnt 😴. Nun machen wir uns mit dem Camper auf den Weg nach Newcastle, wo wir die nächsten Tage verbringen werden.Read more

My tiny Katoomba cabin!

My last stop on my Australian road trip was Katoomba, in the Blue Mountains region. Most of my accommodation has been in hotels or motels, apart from the beach house / cabin in Shoal Bay. But for the Blue Mountains I opted for an Airbnb and what was described as a "tiny cabin" in the host's back garden in Katoomba.

The cabin is built from corrugated iron and lined with wood. It might be "tiny" but it is mighty, and feels amazingly spacious inside - a tardis cabin! It is very tastefully decorated, with hand crocheted throws, embroidered cushions and duvet cover, and books on "cabin porn" and "tent life"! It's also very well equipped with everything you would need, ranging from tea bags and milk, to make up remover pads and insect repellant!

However, the first night, I wasn't so sure I'd made a wise choice as the weather changed and there was a stormy wind outside. It was probably nowhere near as strong as it sounded inside the cabin, but with rattling windows and strange bumps and noises in the night I wondered if I would get any sleep at all! I did find the cabin adorable though, and super cosy and comfortable.Read more

Sydney - Blue Mountains

Am Montag ging es 2h westlich zu den berühmten Blue Mountains. Dort angekommen holten wir uns ein Picknick und machten uns auf die Suche nach den "Three Sisters". Lange Suchen mussten wir dafür nicht. Viel mehr als diese drei Türme und die Weite gab es nicht anzusehen. Der kleine Walk durch die Wälder war abgesehen von den extrem lauten Zirkaten mega schön.
Nachdem der Picknick-Pause ging es langsam zurück zum Bahnhof und wieder in die Stadt.Read more

Und zurück in die Natur.
Ab in die westlich von Sydney gelegenen Blue Mountains.
Die ihren Namen übrigens den vielen Eukalyptusbäumen hier verdanken! Die Blätter verdunsten das Eukalyptusöl, was sich als feiner Nebel über die Bäume legt. Bei Tageslicht wirken sie dadurch blau!

Mit dem Zug ging es nach Katoomba. Eigentlich wollte ich den heutigen Tag ruhig angehen, aber hier gibt es so viel zu sehen, dass ich nach dem Check-in gleich losging. Die Three Sisters begutachten und dann zur Honeymoon-Bridge. Gleich danach ging es den Prince Henry Cliff Walk entlang mit wunderbaren Aussichtsplätzen über die Blue Mountains.Read more

Although I didn't wake up that late, by the time I had showered and eaten it was after 11. I asked around for some good hikes and settled on one that brought me by lots of waterfalls. I descended the same steps to get down to the forest but went the opposite way of last night. It was a very nice walk filled with fun animal sounds and a weird peacock looking thing . Trying to follow the advisors instructions I stuck to the right and ended up heading down the beginning of a 15 km hike. After a small swamp and lots of grasshoppers I turned around realizing I was going the wrong way. I backtracked and headed up some stairs and finally found Leura falls which I stood under to cool off. I headed back out of the forest seeing little water falls everywhere and popping out on the other side of town. Unfortunately I couldn't walk on the street I needed so I went through a park that lead me in the wrong direction. It ended up taking me over an hour to make it back to my hostel where I collapsed and took a short nap. When I woke up I showered and by that time it was almost dinner. After dinner I met a nice Swiss guy who agreed to go on a long walk with me tomorrow and then we both went to bed.Read more

Traveler Both! 😂 that was at 7 pm after a long day of hiking in the mountains and a yummy Turkish dinner. we were waiting for the train back k to Sydney. One of many amazing days so far!!
