      Sechster Tag

      Vormittags bin ich zu einem Markt gefahren, auf dem lauter Menschen ihre selbstgemachten Sachen verkauft haben. Das war voll toll, nur leider war der nur 200m eine Straße entlang. Aber der Strand war gleich nebenan, deshalb bin ich dann dort hin gelaufen und hab Meergestank eingeatmet. Das Meer riecht hier echt nicht toll! Aber es sah schön aus :) Ich bin Ewigkeiten am Strand langgelaufen, bis ich mich auf eine Bank gesetzt hab und meinen Blog von den Tagen davor geschrieben hab. Dann bin ich zu einem Park mit See gewandert und hab dort wieder Ewigkeiten auf einer Bank gehockt und meinen Blog geschrieben und die Leute beobachtet.😅 irgendwann konnte ich mich dann überreden nochmal in die bahn zu steigen und bin zum Museum gefahren. Da hab ich ca 2h verbracht und als das 17 Uhr geschlossen hat, bin ich nach Hause gefahren. Ich hatte blöderweise weder Essen noch Trinken mit und bin soo verhungert Zuhause angekommen, dass meine Portion Nudeln mit Tomatensauce rieesig ausgefallen ist.🤭🤪Read more

      Melbourne

      Last night we noticed signs hanging around the hostel buildings with a warning for people that needed to go to the airport in the early morning. The president of Israel was flying in for a visit and that meant the roads to the airport would be closed between 5 and 7. Our flight was at 8 though so it didn't matter too much, but we did arrive quite early by taxi just to be sure. We had breakfast at an airport café and then waited for the flight. Then we discovered that while Fiji welcomes you with songs and flowers, on the way out they quite literally leave you high and dry. Right before getting onto the plane they stole everyone's water bottles, which was quite mean for a 6 hour flight. Unfortunately our 'window seat' couldn't put the smile back on our face either. But at 12:30 local time we landed in Melbourne, and after 9 days in high humidity and airco's we were able to breathe in relatively normal air, so that made us happy.

      The Melbourne Airport SkyBus brought us to St. Kilda, where we were picked up by Geoff, our AirBnB host for the next 4 nights. He's a friendly guy who also immediately made sure we'd get a transportation pass. Once at his home, we got a tour of the house and got to know that he really doesn't mind sharing everything including his guitars, books and food. Despite being very tired from the journey, our stomachs were begging for some proper food so we walked to the nearest supermarket through the rather nice Chapel shopping street.       The Australian puzzle

      Before going on our world trip we left a goodbye present for our nephew Morris: a puzzle of the world. Australia is one piece of his puzzle, but for us today Australia seemed like a puzzle of a thousand pieces. The locations on our wishlist seemed impossible to combine within budget and time. We were starting to be OK with going a bit over budget knowing that except for Fiji we had stayed below the whole time. But the next problem wasn't far. We learned that single vehicle accidents were simply not insured with any van rental company that had an open office in Alice Springs or Broome before April. So that meant our original plan of three weeks Melbourne-Alice Springs and then three weeks Broome- Perth was simply not possible because Alice Springs and Broome had closed offices. Next we considered making it one big road trip Melbourne- Alice Springs- Broome- Perth. Then we learned that sealed streets between Alice Springs and Broome could very well be flooded until the end of March (explaining why most van rental offices there are closed until then). So if we didn't want to repeat our Fjordland experience from New Zealand, this wasn't really the way to go either. We ended up researching 8 different route scenarios with estimated kilometres and costs. In the end we had one favourite option: 1 week van rental to travel the area around Melbourne, a flight to Perth, 3 weeks van rental to do a round trip north of Perth and then a final flight to either Adelaide or Alice Springs to rent another van traveling the way to the Ayers Rock, Olgas and King's Canyon. We weren't entirely sure about the exact dates yet. So we decided to let it sink in a bit and have a nice evening walk to clear our minds after hours of tough research.Read more

      But got a tyre inflater kit, first aid kit, oil, Jerry can etc etc!

      Melbourne & Adelaide

      Hallo und liebe Grüße aus Adelaide 🙋🏽‍♀️. Ich hab mir gedacht das 8 Tage Melbourne ein bisschen lange sind also habe ich mich in Cairns dazu entschieden nochmal alleine nach Adelaide zu fliegen. Damit habe ich dann alle Staaten außer Tasmanien gesehen 🥰.
      Am Sonntag habe ich mich mit Marcello und Alex getroffen ☺️sie haben mir ihr neues Haus gezeigt uns sind anschließend mit mir raus aus der Stadt ins Yarra Valley gefahren wo ein Winzer neben dem nächsten ist. Hier habe ich das beste Essen in Australien gehabt 🥲 die beiden Jungs haben mich auf ein drei Gänge Menü eingeladen mit Wein 🥰richtig süß! Es ist so schön zu sehen das Marcello zwar älter geworden ist aber immer noch der selbe ist. Irgendwie erfrischend. Abends hat mich Isabelle dann überzeugt an einem Sonntag feiern zu gehen in Melbourne. Hier ist ja Winter also ist es nachts dann entsprechend auch kalt und dunkel aber es war echt cool 🙈 erst waren wir in einem kleinen Club der mich sehr an Berlin erinnert hat. Es war aber recht leise leider und dann waren wir bis um 5 Uhr in einem der recht schick und hell war und auch echt gute Musik gespielt hat. Wir waren dann um 6 Uhr Zuhause und haben bis 14 Uhr geschlafen 😅 dann haben wir uns schnell fertig gemacht und sind nach Brunswick gefahren. Brunswick ist eher ein alternativer Vorort und es gibt viele Second Hand/ Vintage Läden und vegane Restaurants.

      Seit gestern bin ich in Adelaide und das Hostel ist super und sehr sauber ☺️ ich hab mit ein paar Leuten hier gequatscht und bin durch die Stadt und die Parks gelaufen und habe mein Buch in einem schönen Café zu Ende gelesen. Abends habe ich endlich mal wieder was gesundes gegessen 😂 und bin früh schlafen gegangen. Mal schauen wie die nächsten Tage so werden. Ich finde die Stadt ist schön und bunt und es gibt Streetart und einen coolen Markt um die Ecke.      Read more

      Siebter Tag

      Gestern wollte ich erst produktiv sein und dann was unternehmen, aber habs nicht wirklich zu was gebracht. Dann hab ich gedacht, ich gehe wenigstens nh Runde spazieren. Dabei durfte ich sogar die Hundies mitnehmen. Ich sags euch, Wilfred hat 3 mal geschissen!! Ich musste einen Kackbeutel wieder aufmachen und 2 mal benutzen!😵‍💫

      Wieder zurück, hab ich vor lauter "ich weiß nicht wohin mit mir" drei neue Ringe gebastelt. Zum Glück kam dann zufällig meine Gastschwester und hat mich zum Strand gefahren. Da hab ich mich hingehockt und Armbänder gebastelt, bis der eisige Wind mich fast zum Erfrieren gebracht hat. Dann bin ich weiter zu einem Aussichtspunkt gelaufen und am Fluss 1h zurück. Da hab ich einfach meine Gastmutti beim Gassigehen getroffen.😅 Wieder at home habe ich mir meine Nudeln, heute mit Sahnesoße, gemacht. 😇      Read more

      Day 4

      Autokauf 🚙

      Da heute die Sonne schien und wir erst am Abend ein weiteres Auto besichtigt haben, sind wir in den Nahe gelegenen Apex Park gegangen. 🏞️
      Dort habe wir viele Vögel beobachten können, unter anderem auch einen Silberreiher. Wir sind dann noch ein kleines Stück über die Laverton Creek Footbridge gelaufen und dann auch schon zurück zum AirBnB, um dort ein wenig abzukühlen. 🥵🥤

      Gegen späten Nachmittag haben wir uns auf den Weg zur Metro gemacht und sind Richtung Southern Cross gefahren. Dort haben wir uns am Bahnhof das angrenzende Outlet angeschaut und Mittag gegessen. Zum Nachtisch gab es für uns wieder leckere Doughnuts.🍩🫣
      Anschließend sind wir wieder in die Metro gestiegen und haben uns auf den Weg nach Glen Iris gemacht. Dort haben wir uns mit Hugh getroffen, der zufälligerweise auch einen Subaru Forester, aber mit Roadworthy verkauft.
      Ich mach’s kurz und schmerzlos: Wir haben das Auto gekauft! 🚙

      Um das Ding festzumachen haben wir mit Hugh alles an Papierkram ausgefüllt und uns mit ihm für eine Übergabe des Autos morgen verabredet.      Read more

      Bottle shop

      Just went to the shop, ready for the day, big day today - going to watch England in a big 'fan park' in the centre which should be good.

      Not wearing my englad shirt as I feel its bad luck haha

      In the shop there was an 'English section' and I finally found mint sauce and pot noodles!! Also supermarkets here don't sell alcohol so we went to the bottle shop, litre of moscato for today and beers for the road (obviously not drinking and driving 🙄)

      We are packing rucksacks and taking a picnic to the fan park, can't wait!
