43 • Nach Westen zu den Sternen

      September 8, 2016 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

      Mt Kaputar National Park

      December 14, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

2 campgrounds, we stayed at Bark Hut. The other is Dawsons Springs. Well set out sites, plenty of fire pits, BYO timber, clean amenities with open ceiling, clean free BBQ. Walked to the Euglah Rock lookout & waterfall first thing in the morning (after a coffee of course!). We drove to the summit, stopping at 2 lookouts on the way, parked and then hiked the Dawson Springs Loop trail and the summit track. Dawson Springs campground is nice also with cabins to rent. Came across 3 rangers putting up a sign. And a family going for a hike/ride also. Not many people around...maybe because it's mid-week and not school holidays? Absolutely cracker of a day...blue skies and a slight breeze. Forecast is 27 degrees. Car went well on the drive here, impressed so far. Mt Kapatur NP only has an unsealed Rd entering the park for maybe 1-2 kms then it's sealed...alot of the walking tracks are sealed as well which we've not seen before. Plenty of flowers springing up due to all the recent rain. And lots of wildlife- saw some Wallabies and goats on the way in yesterday evening. Wasn't quick enough to get a photo though! Had a fire last night which was nice...making the most of it as not many places allow fires after this. Loving all the new gadgets Pete has organised- headlamps (so good for setting up in the dark last night), walkie-talkies (which I've been taking to the loo with me), Bluetooth selfie stick (from Aldi for $29) and the impact gun which brings the stabiliser legs down without any effort and so much quicker! 2nd night of steak and salad so did something different and sliced up the steak and marinated in sriracha sauce. Made for a nice meal 😋Read more

      Uralla

      July 15, 2018 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 7 °C

Our accommodation for the next two nights is the little town of Uralla in 'A Room with a View'...and they weren't kidding. Our beautiful cottage overlooks acres of land as well as being a marvel in itself - a large chalet with views a around, fully appointed kitchen, dining table, tv, huge bath and bed and a lovely veranda with a bbq...not a bad place to spend one's birthday! It is all heated by a very cosy wood burner which was roaring when we arrived...which given it for down to -7° last night we are very excited about!

After checking in and grabbing some food, we headed into Uralla proper for a beer. This small, quaint, vaguely western/cowboy looking town has maybe 20 shops on one street including two pubs, a model aircraft shop, gun shop, sweet shop, brewery, winery, book shop, drive-thru off-licence and wool shop...We think we could live here and all our immediate friends and family be well catered for! (plus the next city over of Armidale has two fabulous-looking private schools!).

The Top Pub (one of two in town, the other known at the Bottom Pub) served beer from the local brewery which we duly sampled from pumps encased in ice they were so cold. We also took the opportunity to puchase some local wine from the off-licence with a 50% success rate of "nice to drink" (although a 100% success rate of "we'll drink it anyway").

Despite many people reminding us it'd be winter out here, the temperature has yet to really phase us. However, the light is another matter. At about 5pm every evening it almost instantaneously gets dark; that plus the temperature trip makes it feel like a brisk English winter...and having just conquered jetlag, dealing with season-lag is a whole other battle! However it does mean that each one of our stops so far has yielded the most unbelievable view of the skies - more stars than it would be possible to count and clear views of the milky way every night. The photos Ben had got with his camera are truly stunning.

      Lawn bowling.?

      February 27, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

We got up sort of early to check out and leave CPD before traffic would be messy, but it was all good as it meant breakfast in Kirribilli with a nice view of Sydney harbour with the bridge and the opera house.
First point on the agenda was wine tasting in Hunter valley, while the others tasted a few wines, I caught up on my journal.
From Hunter valley we headed towards Tamworth, a medium sized town a bit inland. On the way we stopped for lunch and snack breaks.
As we made it to Tamworth we immediately headed to the lawn bowling club. Lawn bowling is a game quite similar to petanque, only the bowls are larger and only weighted on one side, which make the curl when they slow down.
Emily and I played Vicky and Stuart. At first Emily and I were dominating, but Vicky and Stuart improved quickly and we had some close matches with individual bowls being played on pro level from all of us.
In the end Emily and I claimed a narrow victory. I expected to enjoy lawn bowl, but not as much as I actually did, it was great fun.
As we walked back we went straight to dinner with a trivia night.

      Sydney und Roadtrip nach Tamworth

      November 13, 2018 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

Sydney ist eine großartige Stadt. Dort wird einem wirklich viel geboten. Egal ob Lust auf Party, ruhesuchend, Strand Urlaub, Sightseeing, spirituelle Orte, usw... Man findet hier Alles!

      Birthday in Uralla

      July 17, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

Breakfast was included in our stay...and was huge! The bacon here comes in very long rashers, and in addition we had eggs, a freshly cooked loaf and Anzac biscuits...absolutely stuffed!

As we had two nights in Uralla, we were able to spend my birthday on a more suburban adventure, beginning in the local city of Armidale. It seems almost everything here dates from from the 1880s and certainly all of the buildings look like a cross between victoriana and Red Dead Redemption! The town itself however was much like most towns and largely unexciting. A brief stop at the arboretum on the way out was a pleasant, if wintery, stop.

Taking a 'tourist drive' back to Italia we discovered that just because something is demarcated as a main road does not mean it is sealed. We made slow progress to Uralla where we did some shopping and stopped for birthday cake and beers before heading up to Mount Mutton Lookout - a rather disappointing hilltop aerial surrounded by trees which made looking-out rather superfluous. Instead, we retreated and headed to the "fossicking" site near our cottage. We spent a little time pulling bits of gold out of the river bed but the water was so cold our fortune was cut short.

We spent the evening over a homecooked curry and a bottle of bubbly from the vineyard on the same road that we were staying on. After days of nagging Ben to let me take a kangaroo home, he gave me a really lovely present of a silver kangaroo necklace 😊

      Hunter Valley und Tamworth

      February 12, 2019 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 34 °C

😜Read more

      Tamworth pitstop

      December 28, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

After leaving Apsley Falls heading west towards Mt Kaputar.. we had to drop into Tamworth.. even if we were 2 weeks early for the Country Music Festival we've heard so much about it that it'd be rude not too.

      🤠

      Mt Kaputar Day 1

      December 28, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Bit of a mission to get to Dawson Springs camping area.. 5km of gravel roads, then a very narrow windy road to reach the top at 1500m asl.
Quick little meander around Dawson Springs Nature Trail & then sorted dinner.. it was super warm so we didn't even consider a fire.. lucky, because there's a full fire ban atm 🤦🏻‍♀️
Had a bit of an issue with the kangaroos at dusk.. they have obviously been fed by campers & come in to be fed. They came up sp close that James had to pull alpha male rank 😂
Settled down & had a good nights sleep in the van & a bit of a sleep in the next morning
