התחלנו את העבודה החדשה שלנו , הגענו לטאונסוויל לבית של אלברט ואישתו להעביר שם את הימים עד תחילת העבודה בית חמוד עם חדר ענקית ומלא כלבים חמודיםםם, פגשנו שם את דור וליאור ישראליות שבקרוב עוזבת את אוסטרליה ועבדות פה כבר חודש היה כיף לדבר עם ישראליות ובכללי לשמוע דוגרי על העבודה.
תוך יום יומים כבר יצאנו לשני אירועים הראשונים שלנו שנמצאים יותר אינלנד בעיירות באמצע שום מקום וגם יותר מדבר . כבר באירוע הראשון שעבדנו הבנו שמדובר בסרט, כולם לבושים בסגנון קאובוי , מדברים במבטא אוסטרלי כבד, תמיד עם בירה ביד ולאכול צ’יפס עם בשר בשמונה בבוקר זה לגיטימי לגמרי פה .
האירוע כלל תחרות מכשולים וקפיצות לסוסים, (לנו היה שורה ראשונה למגרש) תחרות מירוץ של חזירים, צפיה בגיזום כבשים ומכירת גורי כלבים בקיצור לא אירוע שראיתי עד היום ותרבות שונה לחלוטין גם מכל מה שחווינו מאוסטרליה עד היום . ודרך אגם חשוב לציין שאנחנו עובדים בפיצה טרק שמעליב אותי לקרוא לה פיצה כי זה בצק עם בסיס ברבקיו וארבע סוגי בשר אז זה לא בדיוק פיצה .
בתור חווית העבודה שלנו באירוע היה לנו קשוח זה לעבוד משמונה בבוקר עד תשע או שתיימעשרה בלילה בלי הפסקות מסודרות או ארוחות אז אתה מסיים גמור מאד אבל כן נהנו מכל המסביב והחוויה שראינו . הימים האלה גרמו לנו להרבה חשיבה והבנה שיש לנו המון צרכים ורצונות שלא מקבלים מענה מהמקום שאנחנו נמצאים בו ובכללי היינו כמה ימים עם השאלה של למה אנחנו פה ומה המטרה של כל הדבר הזה .
שהאירוע נגמר היה לנו שלושה ימים חופש שבהם החלטנו לקחת זמן לנוח ולחשוב מה אנחנו רוצים לעשות עם התחושות והמחשבות שלנו אז מצאנו ספוט לחנות את שוזי לקצת לרבוץ .Read more

Im Konvoi durch das Outback

Nach der Show in Charters Towers brauchte unsere Schaustellerfamilie Hilfe, um alle Trucks zum nächsten Stopp nach Cloncurry zu bringen, denn es waren nicht genug Fahrer vor Ort.

In dieser misslichen Lage war Aron glücklicherweise genau der Richtige dafür, denn er darf Trucks bis zu 12 Tonnen und max. 4 Achsen fahren. Und da sich unser Auto nicht von alleine bewegt, war es Laras Job, unseren Pajero 500 km heil durch das australische Outback zu befördern.

Zur Orientierung braucht es hier übrigens nicht viel, denn es führt nur eine Straße weiter ins Landesinnere von Charters Towers nach Cloncurry.

Schon nach einigen Minuten auf der Straße, konnten wir die abwechslungsreiche Natur des australischen Outbacks bewundern: von mäßig bewaldeten und felsigen Hügeln, über karger werdende Steppe, bis hin zu trockenem Weideland gab es einfach alles zu bestaunen und überall dazwischen lugte der berühmte rote Sand hervor.

Es ist schwierig, die Gefühle in Worte zu fassen, die wir während der Fahrt über diese staubige Straße mitten im Nirgendwo hatten. Der Blick nach vorne auf die schier unendliche Straße bot uns einen kilometerweiten Blick dem Horizont entgegen. Das Gefühl von grenzenloser Freiheit verstärkte sich mit jedem Atemzug und die Gedanken schwirrten nur so davon, beschwingt durch das Rattern der Reifen und der Musik im Hintergrund.Read more

Windmills and Dinosaurs

Hughenden is the town of windmills and dinosaurs. As part of the Australian dinosaur trail they are proud to tell everyone they too were home to the Muttaburrasaurus and quite a few others.

Windmills were an essential pard of developing the outback. They reliably pumped water from hundreds of meters below the ground to water the growi g cattle and sheep industries. There are now very few operating windmills but some have been saved from the scrap heap and are on show.Read more

Mossman to Hughenden

Worn down by the 6m of monsoonal rainfall in Mossman and a shortage of work in the off season we decided to head to WA.
Day 1 we packed up in the rain. A brief respite from the showers when we stopped for lunch in pretty seaside Cardwell but otherwise a longish wettish day.
Day 2 brought us to Hughenden where we admired the sculpture trail and the many dinosaurs.Read more

Day 8
Hughenden - Porcupine Gorge

Today we started with a sleep in! Well.. most of us.. Dad decided to go on a sunrise walk over the lake to capture some cool shots and found many kites to be floating above the water!
Before meeting up with the rest of the crew we decided to have a quick stop in the FJ Holden Cafe which was home to many old antiques including an original jukebox! We had some spiders and iced drinks to cool off and headed out to do some fossil fossicking where we found some cool rocks and crystals with interesting shapes and imprints!
We met up with everyone else at the Flinders Discovery Centre and had a look through their fossils, dinosaur casts and a video that explained the layers in the ground that make up, particularly, this area and Porcupine Gorge.
Speaking of, our next stop was Porcupine Gorge! On the way we stopped at a couple 'point of interests' which were all extremely disappointing. After leading everyone up a rocky hill with not a good view in sight and more than a few burrs to pick out of socks, we decided to head straight to camp.
Once we figured out where everyone would set up, we had some arvo tea which included some snacks from the Hughenden bakery.
Everybody came for a walk to have a sneak peak at the 'pyramid' which we will explore more tomorrow, further down into the gorge!
Whilst enjoying dinner we had a couple visitors in our campsite. Bettongs. They were pretty friendly but not to each other! Hoping to see them again tomorrow!
We finished the night with a gaze at the stars and took a few pictures to capture the beauty of the night sky!Read more

FJ Holden Cafe, Hughenden

From the first moment you hear about the FJ Holden Cafe, you are curious. As you walk in the fist thing you see is a Golden Fleece petrol bowser, synonymous with the era of the great FJ. The next thing you notice is the front cut of an actual FJ. Then you notice all sorts of interesting items including quite a bit of Elvis memoebilia.

The rear end of a monaro made into a lounge chair is quite unusual but in here would not raise a brow. Many models are safely displayed in cases and the walls are packed with info and curios. An old jukebox on display was imported from the USA. Even more curious is that it played 78rpm records.

The Cafe is owned by the local people, the Holdens. FJ & JA Holden in fact. Francis and Jan have brought a wonderful and quirky idea to life.

It doesn't end there though. This is a real cafe and the coffee and food is excellent. If we are ever in Hughenden, this is a must do stop.Read more

Out of bed early this morning and said our goodbyes to Julia Creek, on the road east at 8:15 heading for Hughenden all bitumen pretty lumpy and bumpy in some sections but overall good, had a quick look at Richmond on the way through a nice spot to put on the list for another trip. Got into Hughenden setup and then headed down the street for lunch and look at the shops, had a pie from the bakery just average, went to the info centre and checked out the museum very interesting full of dinosaur history. Drove out to Mount Walker about 10 kms south of town, you can drive right to the top for 360 degree views as far as you can see, nice van park but just on overnight stop.Read more

Today we arrived in Hughenden and went straight to the Flinders Discovery Centre to see the Muttaburrasaurus and other fossils. We found out their theory on how Porcupine Gorge was formed and saw some great fossils. It's hard to believe that this area was once an inland sea! We had a quick look around town and headed back to our accommodation for the night.Read more

Drove to Hughenden, only 115 km, and booked into the Allen Terry Caravan Park, Went down the main street and had a coffee in the FJ Holden Cafe. Walked up to the Windmill Cafe which had GF options. Walked back to info centre and went through the Dinosaur Exhibit, which was well laid out. Their main exhibit being a skeleton of a Muttaburrasaurus, Had dinner in the caravan.Read more
