    80 Mile Beach

    August 31, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

    Eighty Mile Beach

    September 16, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Read more

    Eighty Mile Beach

    June 15, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Travelling up from PH I was struck by a feeling that the hills beside us were tired from age and worn down from the weight of years. They seemed to be frowning on us. Then there were just piles of rocks laying close to ground level - all that was left of a once much larger hill. It really is an old weathered country. You get to the Eighty Mile beach caravan park through Wallal Downs Station. 10 kms of dirt road off the highway that was challenging for all bike and rider combinations although for different reasons. Pitched camp and then down to the beach with the bikes for a test of our sand riding skills- in my case they were nonexistent. Tide was well out but the sunsets are reputed to be beautiful so I’ll add a picture if I can get one. sunset and sunrise photosRead more

    80 Mile Beach

    July 8, 2017 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

What a top spot! Stayed 6 nights here with our new friends we met at Barn Hill Station - Robert & Karen from Mackay. It's great to be travelling with someone again even if only for a couple of weeks.

80 Mile Beach is predominantly a fishing beach with 4WD access and is usually lined with fisherman on the run up to high tide. We all gave it a good go, but caught absolutely nothing. The bloke fishing beside me pulled in a monster 1.2m Threadfin Salmon which lifted our spirits, but it didn't help.

Victor and Barbara whom we met at Broome were also here. They spend 3 months every year at 80 Mile, as do a lot of retired Perth people. I think they felt sorry for us and gave us some fresh fish fillets which were beautiful. We had afternoon tea together on our last day and I cooked up a damper which we all enjoyed.

Beautiful weather, although starting to cool down at night. 11-30°

Eighty Mile Beach and other spots

    June 17, 2017 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

A couple of days to relax with a rod on this wide, seemingly endless shell beach. The catch of choice up here his King Threadfin Salmon - we both managed a pan size keeper each so won't complain.

We detoured to Dampier because no way were we going to miss paying our respects to Red Dog at the memorial erected by locals in his memory. A wonderful outback legend that warms the heart...

We spend two nights at Whim Creek Hotel, a great little pub in the middle of nowhere that comes up it hits own pool, beer garden and cocky/peacock residents. Upmarket pub grub for such an out if the way place too! Sadly during the night the van took on a very definite 'lean' to one side. Confused were we until venturing out in daylight to discover a seriously flat tire. Still, if that's the worst thing to happen on this trip we'll be pretty happy.
