Die Great Ocean Road ist 243 km lang und führt an der australischen Südküste entlang zwischen Torquay und Allansford.
Im Jahr 1919 begann der Bau der Straße und sie wurde 1932 komplett fertiggestellt. Sie wurde damals von 3000 heimgekehrten Soldaten nach dem Ende des Ersten Weltkrieges erbaut. Für die Soldaten diente der Bau der Straße zum einen als Arbeitsbeschaffungsmaßnahme durch die Regierung Victorias, zum anderen war es auch die Errichtung eines Kriegsdenkmales zum Gedenken an die im Krieg gefallenen Kameraden.
Soviel zur Geschichte…. Entlang der Road jagt ein mega Ausblick den nächsten und es gibt zahlreiche Tiere zu beobachten. Wir haben uns also für ein paar Tage ein Auto gemietet und sind losgedüst.
UNGLAUBLICH! Gleich am ersten Nachmittag sind wir auf eine ganze Herde von Kängurus getroffen. Richtig klischeemäßig haben sich zwei davon einen Boxkampf geliefert. In der darauffolgenden Nacht haben wir in einem Baumhaus übernachten und zum ersten Mal richtig den australischen Sternenhimmel bewundert um am frühen Morgen von einem unfassbaren Sonnenaufgang geweckt worden. WOW! In den zwei folgenden Tagen ging es genauso faszinierend weiter. Wir haben auch in einem Motel übernachtet, das war richtig super. Nur Koalas haben wir leider nicht gesehen.

Great Ocean Road ma długość 243 km i biegnie wzdłuż południowego wybrzeża Australii między Torquay i Allansford.
Budowa drogi rozpoczęła się w 1919 roku i została w pełni zakończona w 1932 roku. Został zbudowany przez 3000 żołnierzy, którzy wrócili do domu po zakończeniu I wojny światowej. Dla żołnierzy budowa drogi służyła z jednej strony jako środek tworzenia miejsc pracy przez rząd wiktoriański, z drugiej zaś była to także wzniesienie pomnika wojennego ku czci towarzyszy, którzy zginęli na wojnie. Tyle jeśli chodzi o historię…. Po drodze jeden mega widok goni za drugim, a do oglądania jest wiele zwierząt. Wynajęliśmy więc samochód na kilka dni i odjechaliśmy. NIESAMOWITE! Pierwszego popołudnia spotkaliśmy całe stado kangurów. Zgodnie ze stereotypem, dwóch z nich stoczyło pojedynek bokserski. Następnej nocy zatrzymaliśmy się w domku na drzewie i po raz pierwszy podziwialiśmy australijskie gwiaździste niebo, a wczesnym rankiem obudził nas niesamowity wschód słońca. WOW! Kolejne dwa dni były równie fascynujące. Zatrzymaliśmy się również w motelu, który był naprawdę świetny. Niestety nie widzieliśmy żadnych koali.

The Great Ocean Road is 150 miles long and runs along Australia's south coast between Torquay and Allansford.
Construction of the road began in 1919 and was fully completed in 1932. It was built by 3,000 soldiers who had returned home after the end of the First World War. For the soldiers, the construction of the road served on the one hand as a job creation measure by the Victorian government, on the other hand it was also the erection of a war memorial to commemorate the comrades who died in the war. So much for the story…. Along the road one mega view chases the next and there are numerous animals to watch. So we rented a car for a few days and drove off.
INCREDIBLE! On the first afternoon we met a whole herd of kangaroos. True to the stereotype, two of them had a boxing match. The following night we stayed in a tree house and admired the Australian starry sky for the first time and were woken up by an incredible sunrise in the early morning. WOW! The two days that followed were just as fascinating. We also stayed in a motel which was really great. Unfortunately we didn't see any koalas.Read more
