      Wien

      November 20 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

      Vienna

      November 3 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 61 °F

Day 1 We arrived in Vienna pretty late, drove to the hotel and checked in. We left our luggage in the lobby and ran (quickly walked since they were closing soon) to a new restaurant called Stanko + Tito. The food was delicious and inspired from many eastern european countries. We got back to the hotel unpacked and unfortunately had to repack and switch rooms because the shower flooded the bathroom.😡 It was late and Klaus had to be up super early to drive 3 hours to a customer meeting (he was not happy).

Day 2 - Klaus left his meeting and I had a pretty relaxing day, that included a lunch at a cute cafe. After lunch I made my way to the spa area for a massage. Klaus met me after for the sauna and steam room. We got cleaned up and went to a cool restaurant called Mama Lulu & Sons, all the food was amazing but the dumplings and cucumber dish were to die for. We chatted with a local couple we met before heading to a bar called Bruder that they had suggested checking out. The drinks were so amazing, they make all the alcohol themselves. We walked back and headed to bed.

Day 3- We woke up grabbed a cappuccino to go and made our way to the very impressive Naschmarkt. We had a great time walking around and checking out all the local vendors. We stopped at one of the street vendors called Dr. Falafel and got our Middle Eastern food fix. We stopped at a beautiful wine bar/store called Wein & CO and enjoyed a glass of champagne. We spent the rest of the day walking a lot and exploring the different parts of the town including the large city center filled with shops and restaurants. The plan was to get cleaned up for our dinner but the day got away from us and we had to go to dinner as is. 😲 We tried Brazilian food at Kias Kitchen, our favorite was the tapioca squares with spicy guava jelly.

Day 4- Woke up and went to Cafe Sperl (a super old traditional Austrian cafe) for our morning java. From there we walked to Un Petit Cafe for a cappuccino, it was sooo cute and literally the smallest cafe we have ever been in with a total of 2 tables. We grabbed the car and headed to Schönbrunn Palace for our guided tour. It is a breathtaking palace filled with so much history. Before we left, we had a glass of bubbly at the castle restaurant called Joseph II Heuriger & Vinothek. We drove back to the hotel and walked to Wein & Co, we had a few hours before dinner and decided to grab a small snack and samples some wines. The restaurant was in the main city square, so we bundled up and made the 30 min walk to a restaurant called, Lugeck. It is a modern restaurant which specialty is the Wiener schnitzel, we opted for the beet tartar and truffle burger (both were amazing). Our walk back to the hotel was beautiful with all the amazing buildings lit up.

      Wien

      June 26 in Austria ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

      Vienna

      January 22 in Austria ⋅ ❄️ 36 °F

Checked out of Hotel Tyrol and walked around the Vienna Naschmarkt, very large and impressive but pushy vendors wanting you to try all their stuff. Headed off to Cafe Hawekla a famous Vienna coffee house, opened in 1939 by two newlyweds and still ran by family. It has been featured in movies and songs. Stopped by a beautiful church and grabbed a sausage and wine for the walk back in a hail storm to the car. Headed to the Schlumberger Champagne tour, it dates back to 1842, even though it can’t technically call itself champagne any longer it is still is produced like and tastes like a champagne. Drove close to 3 hours to have dinner with Klaus’s friend in the snowy town of Edlbach Austria.Read more

      Gelato Time!

      September 22 in Austria ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Okay I know this is the post you have all been waiting for 😂 this is a collection of all the gelatos I have got this far in my trip :) highlights were definately pistachio and salted caramel 🤩 I'm posting this now because it's gotten pretty cold (end of September vibes) and I'm going north so it's only going to get colder...so I think gelato season is coming to an end. But you know what that means...CHOCOALTE time :) (you'd be fooling yourself if you thought I haven't still been having chocolate until now 😉🫣🤭)Read more

      Da was wel effie Wenen

      September 17 in Austria ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

      Lieve Bloggertjes

      April 25 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

      Vienna

      July 12 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

[JJ] We packed a hell of a lot into our day trip to Vienna. First, we emerged from the hauptbahnhof and walked into the city centre via Belvedere Palace gardens. We then explored the area around the Hofberg and Spanish riding school, before a general explore took us to St Stephen's Cathedral, where we climbed the north tower and saw views over the city. Once we figured out how to navigate the metro, we found ourselves at Schönbrunn Palace, something of a lidl deluxe version of Kingston Lacy, and probably the most impressive attraction of the day. Finally we darted back to the main train station to collect some shopping and dinner to eat just in time for our train off to Budapest.

Vienna was very pretty, filled with ornate pastel coloured architecture.

      Dinner with no kitchen!

      September 25 in Austria ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

So we arrived at our hostel in Vienna after having gone grocery shopping and there is no kitchen!!! AHH! So we were a little creative and actually made a YUMMY dinner. We cooked our noodles in 3 bowls in the microwave, added some delicious pesto sauce, and also added some feta cheese and pre-cook sausages! Not bad eh?!Read more

      Second night without a Kitchen!

      September 26 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

So yet again the creativity continues!! There is an app I learned about from previous travellers called "To Good To Go". You basically pick a restaurant or food chain and order a surprise bag for the evening to pick up when they close. The bag contains food that the restaurant didn't use and gives it away for cheap instead of throwing it away. Sooo we did that for one "serving" and got sandwiches and an apple fritter. Amazing for 1.5 euros per person!! Then we also made our own salad (DELICIOUS) with arugula, nectarines, feta, and a pesto sauce. YUMMM.Read more

What a great idea for restaurants to save waste!!! Your on for Thanksgiving dinner!!! 😃

      9/26/22Reply
      Traveler

yeah it was super cheap too. like 3 euros and they let you take any food that accumulates to 10 euros. what a win!!! (we did a two for one so it was 1.5 euros each - big win)
