Enjoying the sun in the Bahamas

      January 21, 2020 on the Bahamas ⋅ ⛅ 68 °F

      Beautiful clear water
Bar on beach built around a tree!

Met young man David from Michigan that we rode taxi with ( an adventure in taxi)....going to meet him for dinner also!

Spoke to lady at market who was telling us about hurricane last September.
Water devastated alot of the island..some homes completely under water.
She praised the United States for all their help. They were there immediately and went door to door to check on people and made sure they had food🇺🇲

You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them.
      Psalm 89:9

Had dinner with another nice couple from Minnesota..lots of fun and laughs at dinner...we all ordered 2 desserts!!!
Enjoyed good show of Motown songs and dancers

      Freeport, Grand Bahama

      March 7, 2020 on the Bahamas ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Although there were a smattering of souvenir shops adjacent to the wharf, it was much more like landing in the industrial docks at Newport or Harwich, than the piers in the picturesque down-towns of isla San Juan or Charlotte Amile. Rough concrete and chainlink fencing dominated the view in most directions, some of the nearer docking berths occupied by cargo ships whilst the only other passenger ship in sight was about 2 kilometres up the harbour at the shipyard, apparently undergoing some sort of maintenance. We ran into Kimberly in the port and wandered around the shops for 30minutes or so discussing the conch shortage, why the Bahamas had so much Jamaica themed merchandise and mulling the possibility of buying some extra luggage.

This was probably the port where booking an excursion had been most necessary, there being nothing of note accessible by foot from the wharf. On the other hand, the day’s overcast weather and limited time wasn’t really conducive to a relaxing day in the Bahamas so taking the time to chill with no commitments suited us.

We reboarded the ship well before the ‘Back From the Dead’ panel which was scheduled to go on whilst we were still in port. Right at the opening Jordan Hoffman (host of many of the sessions) dropped a massive spoiler for those that hadn’t seen the latest Picard episode yet, causing the only (well deserved) ‘boo’s of the trip. In the talk Denise Crosby, Garet Wang and Wilson Cruz disused their returns from the dead; the most memorable moment was a question from an Irish solider who asked a question about Wilson’s portrayal of PTSD.

Making our way back to the Elation

      December 18, 2022 on the Bahamas ⋅ ⛅ 73 °F

We got crammed, sardine style, into the back of a minivan to get back from the beach to the ship. We arrived to our room with our towel frog and caught up with the other Rodillo’s. The kids enjoyed some games, a duck hunt, and trivia. We kept Mom and Dad out for some karaoke 🎤 where Holly and Belle rocked some T. Swift.Read more

      Last Full Day On Board

      February 4 on the Bahamas ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

This is our last full day on board. I think everyone had a good time. Freeport is more an industrial port. Not as pretty as Nassau. The weather is threatening to rain, but we are staying on board again. The temp is about 70 F or 23 C. There are some port shops, but they are mostly just clothing and restaurants. No beaches here to walk to.

I have managed to get us a car to the airport tomorrow. Haven't been able to get our boarding passes yet, though.

Ken and I do our usual hot tub routine. Then we headed in for some lunch. The buffet has been quite good. The food is varied, hot/cold, visually appealing, and very tasty. I can't fault the food on board. The decor is a little dated but clean. The bathrooms are always clean and well stocked. The communal areas are clean and sparkling. My cabin has been very well looked after by Luis and his crew.

I finally got our boarding passes, thank goodness. I have a car picking us up at the cruise terminal tomorrow, so I'm hoping things end better than how they started. We head back and pack up our stuff for tomorrow.

We head down for a drink in the smoking lounge before dinner. Dinner was also very good, and the wait staff in the dining room has been very good as well. All and all this has been a very nice cruise for a budget cruise line. Ken and Gabi have enjoyed their first cruise immensely, and I'm very happy for them.

Tomorrow, we are back home, but the memories will last forever.

      Grand Bahama (1)

      December 13, 2016 on the Bahamas ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

We're so sorry...

Greetings by Sundown on Upper Deck 🍹🌅👫👋
