      Der 1. Skitesttag für alle 🎿

      Heute Vormittag haben wir uns relativ spontan entschieden, dass wir den Jungs Ski ausleihen. Samuel war sofort begeistert, Anton erst nachdem er gesehen hat, was er mit den sperrigen Schuhen so machen soll. ⛷in einem flachen, recht abgelegenen Bereich sind sie ein bisschen ruscht und einen winzigen Hügel hinabgefahren, aber nach 30min hatten sie dann auch erstmal genug von der Aufregung 🤪🧐☺
      Nach dem wohlverdienten Mittagsschläfchen ging es an den Test für Papi & Mami: wir wollten das Skitourengehen mit Kraxen testen auf den Ziehwegen im Skigebiet. Begonnen haben wir mit der Abfahrt ins Tal zur Talstation. Das hat super funktioniert... mit einem unerwarteten Steilstück und der Angst davor, wie ich da jemals wieder hochkommen soll 😳😬🥴 die Jungs hatten riesen Spaß und Nelo, der alte Schlittenhund, hat mich herrlichst über alle flachen Passagen gezogen. 😃
      Im Tal haben wir fix angefellt, um nicht im Finsteren am LKW 🚚 wieder anzukommen... es lief viel besser als vermutet, ich behaupte sogar, es war sensationell. Keine Rücken- oder Schulterschmerzen, die Jungs waren zufrieden 😊 da können wir was Größeres angehen ❄      Read more

      לילה בבקתה נורמלית

      את שני הלילות הבאים נלון במלון אלפין בורוביץ שלמעשה זה מלון רגיל שיש בו חדרי סטודיו וגם בקתות עץ יפיפיות ומרשימות.
      הבקתה מגיעה עם שירותים נורמליים ומקלחת ואפילו יש בה סאונה יבשה (בתשלום).
      המחיר בין חדר סטודיו לבקתה הור תוספת של 10 לייב (כ-20₪), אז למה לא להתפנק...

      אלף אלפי הבדלות מהבקתות (בבולגרית הן נקראות האט - hut) שראינו במהלך הטיול.

      כמו כן הארוחת בוקר היא אישית וטעימה.

      דורון והטילון

      דורון רצה טילון מתחילת הטיול.
      אני מנסה לשכנע אותו שזה מיותר ולא עוזר לדיאטה (יש פוסט על דורון והדיאטה).
      היום הסכמתי לו שיקנה טילון, כי באמת עברנו מסלול קשה אתמול, אז גם נדב הצטרף אליו.
      אני לא הצטרפתי לג'ננה שלהם.

      דרך אגב, בזמן כתיבת הפוסט הזה, דורון שותה קפה על בסיס חלב סויה וכך גם נדב, ואני נשאר רעב ומחכה לארוחת ערב שתגיע מתישהו...

      אחרי ארוחת ערב שאכלנו במלון הסמוך (מלון רילה) חזרו לסופרמרקט וקנינו הפעם מגנומים לשלושתינו.      Read more

      Day 4–10

      Borovets Ski Resort, Bulgaria

      Accidental admin week. We arrived at the Ski resort to discover that the information I was relying on was wrong about the beginning of the ski season. The resort is practically deserted with only 2 restaurants open and some workers preparing for the beginning of the season. Which is in 2 weeks’ time! 🤦‍♂️

      So admin week it is with no distractions. The occasional outdoor adventure to save going crazy.

      After travelling now for over five months you certainly value time in one place. The first 4 days were perfect admin days where we finally found a groove and made some good progress. Jessie has been making big headways into the development of her website and I finally got to a point in my journal where I could start contributing travel guide articles! This is the exact reason we both needed to get out of Sydney. None of this would have ever happened had we kept doing this in our “spare time” around full-time jobs.

      Plus it finally snowed on the 3rd day! 😂 Thankfully the weather was cold enough for the resort to be running the snow guns each night on the front slopes. By Friday we were well ready for an outdoor adventure and frothing to try get some time on a board.      Read more

      Endlich Schnee ❄

      January 26, 2023 in Bulgaria ⋅ ❄️ -2 °C

      Am Donnerstag haben wir die heißen Quellen verlassen, ich habe mich ganz schweren Herzens ❤ von unserem Hunderudel verabschiedet und wir sind ins Rila-Gebirge nach Borovets gefahren.
      Pünktlich kurz vor Ankunft hat es auch angefangen zu schneien ❄❄❄. Unseren Parkplatz haben wir gefunden mit Ski-in und Ski-out direkt im Skigebiet. Mit schönster Schneekanonenlärmromantik haben wir ideale Sicht auf die Piste und den besten Platz ergattert... 🧐😁
      Da wir im Nebel angereist sind, haben wir erstmal zu Fuß den Ort erkundet...
      Zum Glühwein gab es auch gleich einen Lenkschlitten, um den nur gestritten wurde und auch darum, wer vorn lenken darf 🛷😅      Read more

      I'm on a horse

      I hope you all remember the epic commercial from 'Old spice'? :D That's exactly how I felt today!

      After climbing further 10km up the hill on that sunny morning, I met 'Butch', real name Ognyan, whos owning around 20 horses on his little farm. Some more of his horses are living wildly in the mountains. He has a unique attitude towards nature and knows the mountains like no other. He invited me for coffee, self made herbal tea with self made honey from special pine trees. It felt, as if theres was another time zone, a slower one. The horses are well trained and strong and the film 'Vikings' and many others have been produced with his horses.

      I decided to try a tour on a horseback. Was a bit unsure if it might be counterproductive for my back but it turned out to be supportive.

      So, we rode a tour trough the forest and steep ski slopes. Fantastic experience and sceneries and I can only agree with with the other peoples feedback to it. If you're ever here try: http://www.horse-riding-bg.com

      Also, we were really lucky with the weather as it startet to rain as we returned. I just made it to my apartment when weather turned into apocalyptic thunderstorm and electricity went down for a while.

      Day 9–11

      Weekend of Snowboarding!! Borovets

      December 9, 2023 in Bulgaria ⋅ ☀️ -1 °C

      The information we had was that the resort would be running the gondola on the Saturday and Sunday. Yet there was no information available about whether this would allow equipment to be used on the slopes or not. By chance, the ski and board rental place below our apartment opened for the first time on the Saturday Morning. We hired Boards, Boots and Bindings and headed over to the front slopes. Expecting to be kicked off immediately by Resort staff, we ended up spending the entire day walking up a moderate slope and boarding back down. On repeat! Us, a ski school and a Snow Cat grooming the run every couple of times! Absolute magic!!

      With this trip being the 3rd time in 3 years (and 4th day in total!) that Jessie had been on a board it was the perfect chance for her to refresh the muscle memory. Amazingly she was linking turns again before lunch.

      The Sunday we got out on the front slope again for a quick warm-up and then hit the Gondola. The day was absolutely perfect blue sky and we could see almost full panorama of the mountains and valleys around us. We got to the top and strapped in for an incredible couple of runs down from top station to mid-station.

      So with that, our accidental admin week finished on a massive high. Having a resort to ourselves to cruise in perfect blue skies. Completely Unheard of! From here we're off hunting Northern lights in the deep of Winter in the land of Fire and Ice! 🇮🇸      Read more

      נוסעים לסופיה

      הצלחתי למשוך את הצ'ק-אאוט עד לשעה 16:00 (במקום עד 12:00) כך כשנדב ודורון סיימו את המסלול הם הספיקו להתקלח ולהתרענן.

      סיימנו את חלקנו בהרי הרילה ומחכים לנהג שייקח אותנו לעיר הגדולה - סופיה.
      בינתיים שותים קפה בסוכה השקופה שבמלון.

      אבנר יורד ברכבל ואנחנו ברגל

      אז הגענו לתחנה של הרכבל עם כוונה לאכול צהריים אצל זו עם השיניים משלשום ולרדת ברגל אבל המסעדה הייתה סגורה (כנראה פתוחה רק בסופש) ואבנר קרס. מה שהוסיף על ההתלבטות שמסתבר שלדורון יש פטיש על ירידה ברכבלים ועוד היה חינם.
      נסגר שאבנר יורד לבד ודורון ואני ברגל. ירדנו מהר לאורך הנהר, היו כמה חציות נהר מאתגרות שצלחנו (היה גם רגע (פעמיים למעשה) של אי וודאות שהגענו למעבר נהר ללא גשר) . הגענו לאבנר מאד מרוצים      Read more

      לילה בבקת הזוועה Zavrachilsa

      עצרנו בשאלה, האם נדב חזר עם תיק או לא.
      נמשיך בסיפור:
      דורון ואני המשכנו לצעוד במעלה ומחכים לנדב שיגיע בלי התיק.
      הזמן נמשך ונמשך ואין סימן לנדב.
      כבר לא היה אכפת לי אם הוא ייחזור עם או בלי תיק - רק שיחזור.
      חוסר הידיעה גרועה מכל דבר ממשי...

      אחרי כשעה נדב חזר בלי התיק.
      זאת אומרת שהבקתה פתוחה.
      עדיין יש עוד כ-2 ק"מ לעלות.
      התחיל לרדת גשם, שמנו עלינו את המעילי גשם וכיסויים לתיקי גב.
      נדב לקח את התיק גב שלי והתחלנו לצעוד לעבר הבקתה. בדרך נדב עודד אותנו ואמר שהוא ביקש מבעלת הבקתה שתכין לנו אוכל ושהבקתה חמימה.
      בדימיוני, אני מריח תבשיל בשר ביחד עם בצק שנאפה זה עתה.

      בדרך לא דרך, בצורה לא צורה, עם עצירות אינסופיות למנוחה, דרך הגשם שלא הפסיק לרדת ובקשת תזמונים מנדב לגבי המרחק ודורון שמוסיף כמה גובה יש עוד לעלות, הגענו לבקתת Zavrachilsa.

      המשפט "במדבר כל קוץ הוא פרח" או בגרסה המקומית " במקום שאין היכן ללון גם בקתת Zavrachilsa היא מלון יערות הכרמל" תפס במקרה זה.
      מהרגע שנכנסנו לבקתה התחלתי להרגיש כמו בסרט שמונת השנואים של טרנטינו (נדב - תתחיל לראות את הסרטים שלו).

      בתוך הבקתה ישבו בחורה צעירה שדיברה אנגלית ועוד בחור שלא הבין מילה באנגלית.
      הבחורה היתה כאילו לא קשורה למקום: מטופחת, נאה, מסודרת ועם מניקור בציפורניים.
      הבחור נראה כמו אחד שמתאים לחיי הבקתה.

      הבחור הלך והביא עוד חתיכות עץ לשים באח, שעליו היו סירי בישול. אני חשבתי שמחכה לנו ארוחה משביעה...

      הבחורה שאלה אותנו האם אנו אוכלים חזיר ואני עניתי בשלילה ואז קיבלנו 3 מנות של מרק עוף שלפי דעתי הוכן כמה ימים לפני.
      זאת היתה הארוחה...
      מכיון שלא אכלנו כלום מהבוקר (יותר נכון מהצהריים), ביקשנו פרוסות לחם עם ריבה (לפחות להכניס קצת אנרגיה לגוף) וקיבלנו לחם טוסט צרפתי עם ריבה מקומית.
      הבעיה היא שהלחם היה לא טרי בלשון המעטה.
      המרחק בין הדמיון למציאות הוא רחוק.

      שאלנו אם יש מים חמים והבחורה ענתה שיש והיא שאלה את הבחור משהו בבולגרית והוא התחיל לכעוס, אז היא אמרה שאין. אמרתי שאני מוכן לשלם אקסטרא והוא כעס יותר אז הפסקנו לבקש.
      התעניינו אם יש אורחים נוספים בבקתה והיא אמרה שכן, יש עוד 5 אורחים.
      בפועל היינו רק אנחנו והם.
      היא היתה נורא מתנשאת, צינית, מעשנת בשרשרת - בקיצור בולגרית וולגרית.

      אמרנו לה שרצינו לישון בבקתה הקודמת אבל היא היתה סגורה. היא אמרה: מה פתאום, הבקתה הזו פתוחה כל השנה!
      ענינו לה שהאופנוענים אמרו לנו שהיא סגורה - היא אמרה שהם עבדו עלינו...

      בבקתה יש שני תאי שירותים: אחד בול פגיעה שפתוח לכולם ותא נוסף עם שירותים נורמליים שהיה רק להם.
      רק שהתחיל להיות חשוך הם הדליקו את הגנרטור והתאורה דלקה ויכלנו להטעין את הטלפונים.

      רצינו לפרוש לחדר והבחורה והבחור הלכו להכין אותו.
      הם חזרו אחרי שתי דקות והיא אמרה שהחדר מוכן.
      הלכנו לחדר (חדר? חדרון) שבו שתי מיטות קומותיים עם שמיכות ומצעים שידעו ימים טובים יותר.
      זה הזמן להוציא את הלינר.
      אתם בטח שואלים מה זה לינר?
      לינר זה סוג של שק שינה ללא הריפוד שאתה נכנס לתוכו וכך נמנע ממגע עם השמיכות והמצעים שבחוץ.
      אני ונדב לקחנו את המיטות הנמוכות ודורון ישן במיטה מעליי.
      כל פעם שמישהו מתארגן, השאר היו בחוץ כי לא היה מקום לזוז בחדר.
      התאורה בחדר - מנורת ספוט קטנה, אז הוצאנו גם את הפנסי ראש לצורך התמצאות במרחב האינסופי.
