Eisberg voraus!

Weiter ging es heute immer der Küste entlang. Ausgehend davon, dass die Fähre morgen Abend von Agentina aus gegen würde war keine Eile angesagt. Welch Trugschluss!
Wie sich in unserem Motel heraus stellte fährt diese nicht Morgen, sondern erst am Samstag.
Unsere Herbergsmama hatte viel Spaß mit uns. Sie erzählte uns einige von der Geschichte und teilweise konnten wir ihr mit unserem bescheidenen Englisch nicht ganz folgen. Nur eine Geschichte war richtig nett, als sie uns erzählte, wie der erste Schwarze, damals noch in der Zeit der Sklaverei nach Neufundland kam. Dieser war damals von Amerika geflüchtet und in Neufundland gestrandet. Eine Einheimische nahm in auf und wollte ihn waschen, bekam ihn aber nicht weiß. Als er ihr dann sagte, er sei ein Schwarzer, schaute sie ihn nur verdutzt an und sagte zu Ihm, warum er dass nicht gleich gesagt hat.
Daraufhin erklärte er Ihr das er ein entflohner Sklave sei und er Angst gehabt hätte, dass sie ihn nicht aufgenommen hätte. Sklaverei war in Neufundland völlig unbekannt.
Da wir den ganzen Tag entlang der Küste leider keinen Eisberg mehr zu sehen bekamen, gab es dafür beim Essen das leckere "Eisberg" Bier als Entschädigung.Read more

Last full day on the `The Rock'! Had brunch with Derrick & Sharon Cove at their house in Maddox Bay. Cozy house he has retired to. Big project finishing the basement, but he has nothing but time now.
Made a side trip to Cape Spear. The farthest eastern piece of land in north america. Weather was cold, rainy & foggy. Next stop going east is England!
Traveled across the width of the Avalon Peninsula from St. John's to next ferry stop in Argentia. Weather turned warmer and sunny. No rooms available in Placentia or surroundings. Sounds like big projects from oil giants including Husky Oil going on. Continued down the3 bay to St. Brides and got the last room in a bed & breakfast inn (CapeWay Inn). Spotlessly clean & comfortable with laundry so my wife can provide her husband with clean clothes!
