But first, it's coffee... and ice cream!May 11 in Canada
One of the delights of our travel style is finding and enjoying good coffee. Sometimes it can be in franchised stores [the main one in Canada is Tim Horton, like Zarraffas] but we have to be desperate.
Much more common are the small and unique offerings you discover along the way. They are typically in smaller towns, side alleys or just off the beaten track. They might be quirky and unusual but they are filled with a buzz and plenty of people.
There’s always a WOW factor involved, as well as good coffee and the interesting food. More importantly, though, it’s the complete experience we are searching for.
There have been some excellent offerings, great people watching and interesting nibblies to enjoy. Here are several of our experiences.
* Phil & Sebastian in downtown Calgary... We walked in, desperately searching for THAT COFFEE. We knew this place was good, and we assumed the coffee would match. It was just a delight and a good break.
* Musette in Vancouver - Can you have good coffee near Lycra-clad human beings? Apparently so. Great breakfasts as well. This caffe supports cycling. There is that buzz in the place!
* The Gathering Tree in Valemount, BC - in a little country town was this delightful escape. It produced a good coffee and was a wonderful escape from the road. Lots of sayings and inspiration in this place!
Good coffee and a great atmosphere - part of the adventure... Mmmmm!Read more
