Buffalo Nations MuseumMay 10 in Canada
Banff holds many unique treasures beyond the regular tourist routes. For example it hosts proudly, and rightly so, the site of the original National Park in Canada, capturing for future generations the flora, fauna and amazing vistas.
Banff contains an intentional heritage of being a well planned resort town, created by the Canadian Pacific Railway, giving the one of the world’s the famous trains - The Rocky Mountaineer - and of course, the familiar and well-known Banff Springs Hotel.
This tourist town also holds the Parks Canada head office, known as Cascade Gardens. Sadly at the time of our visit the gardens were going through a massive transformation and were not really featuring well.
But a gem we discovered hidden next to Cascade was a First Nations museum called Buffalo Nations Museum, an excellent interpretive centre telling both local and national stories for current generations. Presentations, audio visuals and well constructed displayed showcased a history often misunderstood by 21st century dwellers.
It is good to pause in our lives and begin to get a sense of a nation’s heritage, to get to know the stewards of this great land called Canada. It’s a harsh environment, but the stories of survival, management, creativity, resourcefulness, spirituality are both educational and inspiring.
We share only six photos with you as a hint of some amazing discoveries. A place worthy of a visit... take your time!!Read more
