      Vulcano Lascar

      March 23, 2017 in Chile ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Picked up at 5am we had a 2 hour drive to the basecamp of the 6000m vulcano where we had breakfast, drank Coca tea (good for the height) and watched the sunrise. Amazing landscape somewhere in the desert! As I ve been travelling for a long time I did not have much winter clothes with me. Unexpected -5 degrees made it a very cold morning until we started our hike. With 2 other guys and the guide I started my journey all the way up to to the still active Lascar vulcano. The altitude makes it a very difficult walk. And besides that I did not have any gloves, which made it also freezing cold and i could not use any sticks for the way up. I was probably the worst prepared guy walking up this giant mountain. But after 4-5 hours we made it all the way up to the top and it was worth all the suffering. Totally exhausted I enjoyed the amazing view up there before we had to make our way down again.

After this great journey we had a few beers in the evening while watching Chile-Argentina with some locals. I decided to leave the desert in the next morning and head further down south to Valparaiso.
