      History of Shenzhen

      September 24, 2018 in China ⋅ 🌧 28 °C

My city only have nearly 40 years of „history“. It became from a small fish village to the forth most important city of China merely within 40 years. The museum shows the history of the development and is really recommended to people who want to know more about Shenzhen .Read more

      Day From Hell

      July 22, 2016 in China ⋅ 🌙 29 °C

The plan today is to go to The Window of The World so we set the alarm go 8 o'clock and by 9 we're on our way. We arrive after an hour on the tube and as they don't accept cards I have to go to the cashpoint. I enter my pin a couple of times and just think that I have misread the instructions but on my 3rd attempt it blocks my card. When I look closer I realise that the digits on the keypad are not in the same sequence as I'm used to and have been inputting the wrong pin without realising. This is a big problem as its the only card we have out with us so the only thing we get to see is the replica of the Eiffel Tower from the gates before having to make our way bback to the hostel. This is another one hour journey and when we get back I have the costly pleasure of speaking to an agent In India to unblock it. As I'm reaching the end of the call my credit runs out and I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I suggest we go and try the card and we make the 10 min walk to the cashpoint near the park, only to get there and realise I've left the card on the bed. This day is going just great. Mark volunteers to go back as the toilet is calling and returns 20 minutes later with the card. I input it with trepidation and for the first time today something has gone right. It works. We extract some money and walk the short distance to the bus station to purchase our tickets for tomorrow to Yang Shuo. When I check the tickets they have today's date on and I try to explain I want them for tomorrow but even after writing the date down she doesn't understand and the lady next to her helps us and eventually she reprints them with tomorrow's date. The tickets cost £20 each but we will save on a hostel so it's not too bad. We go back to the hostel and have a breather for half an hour, and I suggest we should go and see the sunset seeing as today has been such a let down. The problem here is there are lots of high rise buildings so we have to catch a tube. When we get off we are right in the middle of a building site and trying to find our way out proves a little difficult, we see a path and venture down it to find ourselves smack bang in the centre of a building being built with metal girders and concrete mixers galore and the foreman shouting us to get off. We retrace our steps and follow the road around but the only traffic passing us is construction lorries. We eventually reach a security hut and with a little help from google translate we are told to carry on. Out of the corner of my eye I see a huge rat and as I jump in shock land on a huge concrete puddle which splashes all the way to my arse. Grrrrrrrr. After a further hour of walking we reach the waterfront and I have to say i need to stop chasing sunsets. After the sun disappears we decide to take a different route back in fear of being run over and what a bad descision that was. We are walking around a building site where each road leads to a dead end. After 3 hours of walking we reach life and after getting a taxi to the nearest subway station we are sadly disappointed to find it's a train station and we need to get another taxi which are nowhere to be found. A mototaxi(bike) pulls around the corner and Mark and I both jump on the back. Considering the day we've had this is probably not a good idea as we cross busy roads and mount pavements narrowly missing pedestrians in our way before thankfully arriving at the tube. I sit for a moment to compose myself and a bloody huge cockroach lands on me.We board the tube and once safely back get into bed before anything else can happenRead more
