      March 31, 2018 in China ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

We arrived at our boat shortly after 1am and got up for breakfast at 6:45. Great sleep but a little short. Just waiting to tour the Three Gorges Dam. It is a hydroelectric gravity dam that spans the Yangtze River by the town of Sandouping, located in Yiling District, Yichang, Hubei province, China. The Three Gorges Dam is the world's largest power station in terms of installed capacity.Read more

      Yangtze river cruise

      March 31, 2018 in China ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

Arrived Here very late last night. Thankful for the fact that we remain more to here till the end of today. There are included excursions each day on this cruise, and you are also able to purchase optional Cruises. Breakfast begins at 6:30 with music piped through Speakers in your room followed by announcements in Chinese, English, French and German. If you aren’t up by now, you may miss breakfast as it is only served between 6:30 and 7:30.

Free wifi in the lobby of the ship though you can purchase a package for your room. Photos of this ship do not show the wear and tear on the furniture and carpets. Public area carpets are clean and in good shape but the room carpets could use a very intense cleaning.

Attended a Chinese medicine talk where Vic received acupuncture for his sore throat and Carolynne received acupuncture, cupping and massage for her sore knee.

Wandered the ship, checking out the shops and lounge areas.

Hand washed laundry as it costs $1 to wash a pair of socks. A little too much for my budget.

Visited the Three Gorges Dam, the largest Hydro-electric dam in The world. Back to the hotel in time got a quick shower before dinner and the captain’s welcome reception which included sparkling wine and dancing.

      Three Gorges Dam

      March 31, 2018 in China ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

The Three Gorges Dam is a hydroelectric gravity dam that spans the Yangtze River by the town of Sandouping, located in Yiling District, Yichang, Hubei province, China. The Three Gorges Dam is the world's largest power station in terms of installed capacity. It supplies only 2% of the power demand in China, still a big number. 70% of power demand comes from coal generators, a major polluter, the rest comes from other hydro electric generators, nuclear reactors and green power. Although the three gorges dam is a environmentally friendly source of power it is not without controversy causing human and ecological damage.Read more

      Mit Hochgeschwindigkeit in den Fluss

      August 24, 2018 in China ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Also ein halber Marathon.

      Day 1 River cruise

      March 29, 2019 in China ⋅ ⛅ 61 °F

Arrived about 10:15 last night at the ship taken to a rather stuffy, hot ballroom where we had to endure a 30 min gig by the ship tour director then finally stumbled off to bed. Got up at 6 this morning. Room is small but suffices. Has a balcony which is nice. Shower is the best we’ve had on the trip. TV with HBO and BBC Breakfast served from 7-8 am.
Good breakfast buffet. Afterwards sat in on a lecture by the ships doctor on Chinese medicine (acupuncture, cupping, energy channels, etc. He did an acupuncture, cupping, muscle massage on one of the passengers. Needless to say this drew a lot of interest from us octogenarians with our myriad aches and pains!!
