      Volcan de Lodo El Totumo 🌋

      Aujourd’hui c’était bain de boue !

      Un vrai volcan (le plus petit du pays) de 15m de haut avec dedans une boue épaisse. La boue est tellement dense qu’on y flotte, mais c’est visqueux donc ça fait un peu bizarre quand même. Bien sûr les locaux nous garantissent tout plein de bien faits de cette boue.

      Santa Veronica 🪁

      On avait prévu 3 jours, mais on sera resté une semaine avec un départ à reculons….

      Ce village est principalement connu pour son spot de kite. Nous avons retrouvé une amie kiteuse rencontrée au Brésil dans l’incroyable auberge d’Agua Vela.
      Dans l’auberge que des kiteurs et surtout des gens qui restent plusieurs semaines / mois. Bref, la recette parfaite pour une super ambiance familiale.
      Du coup routine quotidienne, petit dej, session de kite, petit poisson frais sur plage, rekite et dîner en famille avec David le proprio aussi ex-chef de resto étoilé.

      Le spot est lui un peu chauuuud, des vagues de 2 à 3 mètres et un vent un peu énervé qui souffle tous les jours sans faute. Clairement pas idéal pour que Anna continue son apprentissage, mais très sympa pour bien décoller !

      Nous avons rencontré encore une fois plein de « digital nomad », ces gens qui travaillent 100% à distance. Curieux cette espèce qui enfile leur plus beau maillot de bain pour aller travailler. Étrange quand même.

      Lors du week-end il y avait un carnaval dans la ville d’à côté. Plein de « picos » dans chaque coin de rue et même dans les coffre des voitures. La musique ultra fort bien sûr, impossible d’approcher à moins de 100m la scène principale.
      Concours de miss du carnaval tout plein de plumes et grosse bataille de farine dans la foule. Plutôt chouette. Bon entraînement pour le 18 février pour le 2eme plus grand carnaval du monde a Barranquilla.

      Carnaval de Barranquilla 🎭

      De la folie !

      De la musique forte dans tous les coins de rue, des BBQ sauvages, des déguisements couleur néon qui donne le sentiment d’être dans un monde parallèle de science fiction, plein de batailles de farine et un soleil qui cogne - bienvenu au deuxième plus grand carnaval du monde derrière Rio de Janeiro.

      Après avoir retrouvé les 3 amis de Berlin d’Anna on a repris la chasse au costume pour conclure sur : un gros bébé, une touriste allemande à la plage et 3 romains.

      Parmi les photos vous pourrez profiter d’un costume vu assez souvent: se déguiser en esclave noir. Vu d’un œil européen c’est assez choquant surtout qu’ils ont des machètes et font semblant d’agresser les gens pour la blague …. Bref !

      Nous avons participé à la parade et visiblement la foule a appréciée de voir quelques gringos - tant mieux car ça nous a coûté toute une journée à marcher et danser sous le soleil. L’ambiance était juste dingue.

      Le soir c’est festivité dans tous les coins de rues, avec bien sûr l’activité préférée des colombiens : écouter de la musique hyper fort assis en famille sans pouvoir se parler.

      Petit bonus: nous avons mangé dans un resto libanais où Shakira y a appris ses premiers pas de danse arabe - d’où la photo de Shakira petite.

      Autre petit bonus: les plaisirs d’être Vegan dans un continent qui ne mange que de la viande. Super maïs au sel pour Anna en retour de soirée … à 4am ça a quand même bon goût.

      Maintenant un peu de repos, retour à la plage, après ces 3 jours / soirs de folie !!      Read more

      Carnaval de Barranquilla

      Barranquilla isch eigentli eher en durchfahrtsort gsi. aber per zuäfall hemmer gseh as det ganz en grossä carnaval gfiret wird. anschinend nebä rio dr zweitgrössti.
      also los gahts, das muss me doch definitiv mal erlebt han. wänn nöd rio de barranquilla. 💃🕺
      am erstä tag simmer de aber eigentlich doch eher enttüscht wordä. me gaht natürli irgendwiä miterä gwüssä vorstellig dethi, aber sie isch definitiv nöd würgli erfüllt wordä.
      ider stadt selber merktmä nüt gross öppis erst wänn mä id d nächi vudr umzugsstrass chunt. überall wird öppis verchauft essä, bier, fasnachtsschmuck etc. überall lauft musik, aber wüürgli viel viel z lut. kostümiert sind d lüt grundsätzli nöd, da isch z motto öppis farbigs aleggä = kostüm.
      dr umzug finded anerä abgsperrt strass mit tribünä statt. uhni ticket fürd tribünä gsehsch nüt. leider bisch aber so irgendwiä zwit weg vu allem. du gsehsch kostüm und tänzer z wenig. und es chunt eifach nöd überä. bi üs im hotel hets geheisse umzug fangt zwüsched 1 und 2 ah. mir schwizer natürli am halbi zwei det gsi nunig glernt as da ziit anderst gaht. agfange hets de öppä am halbi 4🤣🤣

      am zweitä tag het sich de aber doch no zeigt was fasnacht für si heisst.
      per zuäfall simmer amne riesä strassäumzug (gratis) vrbi glofä mit unglaublichä tänz, kostüm, musik woow würgli eimalig gsi. eb jung oder alt alli sind am start.
      alli hend gfieret, gsungä und der umzug gnossä. so hend mir üs das vorgstellt.
      definitiv glohnt und glernt as nöd alles wo zahlsch guät isch.
      riiiesigi umzüg sind das gsi wo mehreri stund gangä sind mit wahnsinnig vielä gruppänä. kei ahnig we viel gruppe diä hend.

      Medellin

      From tiny mountain villages to one of Colombias main cities: Welcome to Medellin! We were excited to meet our friend Milena for a visit - even more so when Sebastian also sneaked up as a surprise visit and early birthday present for Alina 🥹🫶🏼 (credits to the boys for keeping his visit a secret for a full month!). So the four of us explored Medellin as best as we (safely) could by eating at a lot of places, drinking at a lot of places, riding cable cars and the metro, doing a walking tour through the infamous Communa 13 district and enjoying the beautiful view on the city on our shared terrace.
      Medellin really is very different from Bogota and much more modern (they are trying to build a metro in Bogota for the last 10 years now, while Medellin has a running metro system already). We stayed at the - very safe - prime tourist area called ‚el Poblado‘. In our half of the neighbourhood, the streets were peppered with cute little cafes, bars, restaurants and shops, all giving off a very relaxing and quiet vibe. It just takes a 10 minutes walk to the other part of the neighbourhood to experience a completely different vibe altogether: This was where the parties are at, every single night 💃🏻. Full streets are completely closed off for vehicles, crowded with seating areas of all different kind of restaurants and bars, and booming with all different kind of latin sounds. Great for a night out, but also very tiring 🙃
      Many say that they prefer Medellin over Bogota, and we see why - it‘s much easier for tourists! All in all a city well worth a visit and spending a few days exploring (especially great with friends we haven‘t seen in 4.5 months 🥰).      Read more

      Baly Express Barranquilla

      Eine Nacht im Baly Express Hotel - ein Märchen aus 1000 und 1 Nacht. Eingebettet in die absolute Tankstellen-Romantik liegt dieses Hotel in praktischer Flughafen-Nähe. Aber das ist nicht alles was Baly Express zu bieten hat: Das durchdesignte Zimmer bietet gemütliche Leuchtstoffröhren-Wohlfühl-Atmosphäre. Auch auf Kunst wird hier wert gelegt. Die 200 Dezibel der Klimaanlage stören kaum (in 1 von 16 Fällen lässt sich die Temperatur immerhin umstellen). Am französischen Doppelbett liegt es sich wie auf einem Holzboden - das Kreuz sagt danke. Fenster gibt es nur in 1,90m Höhe, aber die sind sowieso überbewertet - Lüften braucht man bei dem vorherrschendem Schimmelgeruch eh nicht. Die Erinnerungen an die zärtlichen Umarmungen des Duschvorhanges bleiben uns noch länger in unseren Köpfen. Baly Express - eine 10 von 10 Punkte Erfahrung! Gerne wieder.Read more

      Cartagena, Columbia

      Bob and I both chose to do the Rosario Island Tour excursion.
      We departed the ship into a very industrial port. It reminded us of home with identical cranes and the so very soothing noise of backup warning signals on forklifts.
      That being said, the Port of Cartagena was very clean and well appointed. There was a charming historic building at the end of the pier which was also adorned with planters containing luscious tropical plants. At the entrance to the port, the Columbians developed a "Port Oasis" which hosts numerous tropical birds, reptiles and plants.
      Our excursion group was split into two groups. We boarded our boats and off we went.
      We sailed by a fort at the entrance to the bay where Cartagena is located. There are actually 2 forts, one in each side of the channel. This allowed canons to be fired from both sides providing a very effective defensive strategy.
      After an hour boat ride in which several people were turning green around the gills, we arrived at the Rosario Islands. We sailed by several small islands which only had one or two villas. Hermit that I am, I thought this would be an ideal place to live. I even found a fixer upper.
      Next we sailed by Pablo Escabar's abandoned villa (white building with large buoy in front pictured below) on our way to our snorkeling spot.
      Unfortunately, the reef was not very healthy and there were relatively few fish. We did see one huge school of fish 🐟🐟 with probably close to 100 fish. But, again, I was in the water so I was happy.
      The day continued with us stopping at a local bar like none other we have ever been to. This bar was located on a rocky outcropping. We had a glass of champagne but avoided any of the snacks and located a crab in the tide pool.
      The subsequent stop was at another island's beach resort where we had brunch and basked under a palapa.
      After about an hour, we boarded our boat for the hour boat ride back to the port. Bob and I decided to take one for the team and sit in the bow of the boat where the ride is a bit more intense than in the stern.
      When we got back to the port, we quickly walked through the Port Oasis and took some quick photos of some tropical birds.
      Back onboard the Neptune, we showered and headed to dinner at the Chef's table for Norwegian themed menu. This was one of the best dinners we have had anywhere onboard.      Read more

      Mucho Sol

      🇫🇷 On retourne une nuit à Cienaga puis direction Barranquilla, on n’a pas prévu assez d’eau pour cette longue route sous le soleil, on saute sur le premier magasin que l’on voit à l’approche de la ville. Puis on passe une journée à Barranquilla sans rien visiter de la ville à part le centre commercial qui se trouve au bout de la rue de la famille qui nous héberge en couchsurfing. On apprends que la manette de velo de Saskia est cassé et qu’il faut la remplacer, ça ne va pas être simple !

      🇪🇸 Pasamos otra noche en Ciénaga y luego vamos para Barranquilla. No llevábamos bastante agua para este largo viaje bajo el sol, así que nos tiramos encima de la primera tienda que vimos al acercarnos a la ciudad. Pasamos un día en Barranquilla sin visitar nada de la ciudad aparte del centro comercial en la misma calle de la familia que nos acogía en couchsurfing. Descubrimos que la palanca de cambios de la bici de Saskia está medio rota y hay que cambiarla, ¡no va a ser fácil!      Read more

      Vertreibung aus dem Paradies

      Eigentlich hatten wir geplant, bis Freitag an unserem Traumstrand zu bleiben. Allerdings beobachten wir auch schon seit Tagen die Situation der LKW-Blockaden hier in Kolumbien. Die LKW-Fahrer streiken und blockieren immer mehr der Hauptverkehrsstraßen. Bisher war der Schwerpunkt weiter im Süden um Bogotá und Medellín, aber am Donnerstag gibt es auch erste Sperrungen auf unserer Strecke entlang der Küste nach Cartagena. Wir befürchten vor allem, dass die Brücken über den Río Magdalena blockiert werden. Wenn das der Fall ist, haben wir keine Chance, nach Cartagena zu kommen. Wir beschließen während des Frühstücks kurzfristig, zusammenzupacken und zumindest bis an die westliche Seite des Flusses zu fahren. Bis auf eine Blockade ist es ruhig auf unserer Strecke. Und dort werden wir durchgewunken, nur LKW können nicht passieren. Mal wieder Glück gehabt.
      Ca. eine Stunde vor Cartagena finden wir nochmal einen schönen Strand an einem Hotel mit Restaurant. Für ein geringes Entgelt dürfen wir den Pool und die Duschen sowie die Liegestühle am Strand nutzen.
      Morgen geht es dann endgültig nach Cartagena. Wir müssen noch das Auto für die Verschiffung vorbereiten und am Dienstag ist dann Abgabe im Hafen.
      Heute Mittag wurde bekanntgegeben, dass die Streiks ab sofort beendet sind…      Read more

      Day 19–24

      Kolumbia 🇨🇴

      Von Ecuador ging es direkt weiter nach Kolumbien. Wir haben 3 Tag in Barranquilla verbracht, was nicht so besonders war. Den ersten, richtigen Regen haben wir auf alle Fälle erlebt.
      Der Tagesausflug zum Nationalpark in Santa Marta, war auf jeden Fall schön. Durch den Wald, sind wir ohne Schuhe gelaufen, da die Wege teilweise überflutet waren. Fussmassage inklusive.
      Mit dem Bus sind wir weiter nach Cartagena. Dort trifft das Reichtum und die Armut sehr stark aufeinander.
      In Cartagena haben wir eine Katamaran fahrt erlebt. Die Altstadt war sehr schön innerhalb einer Burgmauer aufgebaut.
      Da in Kolumbien die restlichen, spannenden Reiseorte vom Hochwasser betroffen sind, gehen wir weiter nach Peru…🇵🇪      Read more
