      Da wo ich nicht hinwollte

      April 24, 2023 in Croatia ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Read more

      Skradin

      October 1, 2023 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

We left the Heritage Hotel Kaštelet around 9am. It was a very blustery morning, and the strong gusts made riding a bit of a challenge. We continued along the scenic, but slower coastal route. Part way we veered off the highway and up the hillside. The track was narrow, and lots of tight turns up. The bulkieness of the BMW was again a challenge, but J managed the way up without much issue. The slope down was much more gradual, and provided great views of the coast.

We arrived in Omis, a bustling little town, then started our trek inland through an amazing steep sloped gorge. Winding our way up the switch backs, shortly found our way into quasi arid upper plateau area. A had proposed a couple places to stop for a late morning coffee, but it seems many places were either closed for the season, or on a Sunday. Ended up taking a water and snack break next to the Cetina river near the town of Blato na Cetini.

We followed the Cetini river valley for a bit, then criss-crossed the tolled highway a few times, and then winding our way deeper inland. Much of the landscape was rocky with low brush, and fairly open. A few sections were curvey, but others quite flat and straight, only obscured by the low brush. Almost at our destination in Skradin, but we were turned away due to a car rally race! The polite police officer provided some direction on an alternative route, but it would force us on to the toll highway.

We headed more west, towards the coast than expected and decided to enjoy a cold drink at a bar and take a break from the afternoon heat, 28C. It was a great patio with a cool ocean breeze and shade under some trees to park the bikes.

A thought he found an alternative route to bypass the tolled highway, but it ended up being a false lead; we each had to pay a grand total of €0.40 for the 8km section on highway 🤣 The detour added another 20km to the day of riding.

Skradin is a cute little touristy village tucked into a tight valley, and along a narrowing inlet. Once parked and settled in to our hotel rooms, went for a walk to explore the area, and see what the dinner options were. Settled on a burger restaurant. A ordered the chicken salad, D ordered the classic burger, and J had the "Wild Animal" burger (mix of wild boar and venison. Back at the hotel A and his dad played a few rounds of cribbage before calling it a night.

      Krka National Park

      July 5, 2023 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

When we arrived in Split, we wanted to get straight into some of the activities in the area, and so we decided to knock out the major one we wanted to do. This was Krka National Park. It had some unbelievable waterfalls and wildlife, and the tour we chose included a tour guide through the national park, a boat cruise, and some spare time to swim. Unfortunately, swimming in the actual waterfall section is not allowed. Apparently, a child died there some years ago, and so it has been shut off ever since. We were meeting at the old town in Split but it was a bit later in the day, around 10:30 am, so we used the spare time to wander around and see the beautiful city. We accidentally strolled through the diolcetians palace and the underground areas used to shoot Game of Thrones. This was an incredible site, and it was difficult to understand how it could be so well maintained. They use the area for markets mostly now, which makes it an interesting stroll.

We then got on the bus to Krka National Park. When we first arrived, the tour guide took us through some small historical watermill section of the national park. Despite it not being overly busy, we managed to lose him at the very first point, and we did not see him again until the end. This was slightly disappointing, but it meant we made mates with an English guy from Newcastle and a bunch of Dutch girls. We essentially just wandered through at our own pace and chatted, and it was perfectly fine given the views. As is typical with everywhere in Croatia, the water was insanely clear and, this time, slightly green. This meant you could see all the wildlife in the water and made the waterfalls themselves incredibly colourful and spectacular. I would love to be able to include more than 20 photos, but you may just have to wait until I'm home to see them all. Sorry.

After finally finding our tour guide again, we headed for the boat for a quick cruise down the river. This was also quite cool but nowhere near as exciting as the Waterfall section. They dropped us off at a beach, and we chilled there for about an hour and had some beers. Eventually, it was time to get on the bus and head back to Split. We headed home for a shower and met some more people from the hostel. It seemed as though they put all the Aussies in the one room because there were about 7 of us total and just one other Italian who we barely saw.

We then caught up with the English mate for a few drinks and headed back to our hostel to drink at the bar there. The beers were only 2 euros, and it meant we could meet some other people from the hostel. We invited some of them to drink, and eventually, there were about 6 or 7 of us having beers in the bar at the hostel. We then decided to try and find some nightlife, but after finding mostly pay to enter places, we settled for a couple of bars/restaurants that were cheapish. Jack was keen to enter a club but entry was like 30 euro and it was already late so we convinced him it wouldn't be worth it. In the end, we all just went home to bed. We weren't too upset because we knew there would be more partying in Hvar.

      Knoba night out in Skradin

      June 27, 2023 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Catching up at the knoba . Local bar. Group invited out to have tapas together. It is a bar started by the owner’s father in law, and has been going for 60 yrs. It started because he invited his friends in for a drink. Then they eventually started to leave some money, so eventually he turned into a bar.
It was a great night with the Magellan passengers. Following this we had a recommendation from Stjephan for a cake that originated in the village Skradin, so we dashed off to another konoba/restaurant and Euan ordered one serving. Since there four of us the waitress bought out four forks! Now that’s what I call service. No snooty suggestions that we should all order etc. it was a delicious walnut & almond meal chocolate creation with a chocolate and praline top. Euan thanked the owner for the amazing cake! The owner then refused any payment! After this we came across the many of the boat/bikers, so naturally we sent them along. They had drunk lots of raki,
The poor owner would have been a
bit surprised that he suddenly had lots of cake sales at 11pm. We are stunned at how many of the locals are up and socialising at 11pm. Babies, young kids, the entire family. It’s school holidays now they have 10weeks off.

      The Konoba

      June 27, 2023 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

The whole pack crossed the road to a local tavern for tea. Everything made by the family. Wine, cheese, prosciutto, olives, oil, grappa. They’ve been running this place for 60 years, before electricity got here!
We finished off with stradinska torta. Yummy….

      June 27, 2023 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

We took a boat trip to the Krka National Park which is famous for its waterfalls. It had the first hydroelectric power station built in 1895. Water mills and such before that no doubt. Amazing wild life, the frogs were so loud!Read more

      Nationalpark Krka mit den Wasserfällen

      May 24, 2023 in Croatia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Read more

      krka National park

      July 13, 2017 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Early start again to catch the boat so we could hike up through the Krka National Park at Skradin. Very beautiful again but very very hot today. The water flowed at an enormous pace. Old flower mill at one of the falls. Spectacular scenery again. In the afternoon we then drove up to the top of the park to see the upper falls. The town of Skradin is on the lake and such a beautiful place. This is our last day in Croatia.Read more

      2. Tag

      August 8, 2022 in Croatia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Read more

      KRKA Nationaal Park

      July 16, 2022 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C
