Off to Kutnâ Hora today which is best known for the Sedlec Ossuary or ‘Bone Church’. In medieval times when the cemetery area reached 3.5 hectares, there was no space left to expand. The old graves were exhumed and the remains placed around the Lower Chapel wall perimeter, both inside and out. It is estimated to contain the skeletons of between 40,000 and 70,000. They were deteriorating so a decision was made to clean (sonic) and store them. An artist was appointed to arrange the bones - thus these decorations and furnishings we now see. Some remain stacked and the operation is not yet complete.
It’s a cute little town and is also known for St Barbara’s Cathedral. This was a well off silver mining town where the locals wanted their own place of worship rather than the one at distance and so began this incredible build - a Gothic Unesco World Heritage Listed masterpiece.
We had a traditional lunch and I went for a degustation of beers. I was quite pleasantly surprised but not keen at all on their random cherry liqueur one.
This is my last day in Prague so on our return I made a mad dash for the Grand Prague Museum.
Those of you who have seen the movie ‘One Life’ with Anthony Hopkins - you will understand the train door tribute to the Brit Nicholas Winton, kept at Prague Main Station. Very touching. He saved close to 700 odd Jewish children from the gas chambers.Read more

In Tschechien machten wir extra noch mal nen Schlenker von der Autobahn weg, um ein wenig zu rasten. Ein großer Staudamm mit Besucherzentrum lockte uns an, und im Außenbereich gab es ein paar hübsche Wasserspiele zu sehen und auszuprobieren.
Nach Prag änderte das Navi seine Meinung und schickte uns nicht mehr Richtung Dresden, sondern über Chomutov. Später erfuhren wir von einem Unfall auf der A17 mit Vollsperrung – also man blickt zwar nicht durch, was das Navi so treibt, aber oft gibt’s doch Gründe und wir konnten froh sein. Die Grenze bei Reitzenhain war ziemlich locker, in Schrittgeschwindigkeit an einem Posten vorbeifahren, das wars. Und in Chemnitz gabs dann noch einen Verfahrer, trotz Navi ...Read more

Die bunte Kunstgalerie Leidenschaft

Nach dem interessanten Einkaufszentrumsausflug sind wir wieder Richtung Zentrum geschlendert. Da wir ja schon länger immer ein Auge auf Klimbimläden (Einrichtungsspaß und Malerei) werfen, entgeht uns auch im Brausebrand nichts.
Und so sind wir in der 'Sopko Gallery & Store' gelandet. Es war die reine Neon-Fiesta. Da waren wirklich tolle Bilder und Inspirationen dabei.
Also diesmal mussten wir nicht spielen
"Wenn du eins nehmen musst, was'n?" Oder "Für wieviel Geld...?"
Das war wirklich wieder eine sehr gelungene 'Reinstolperung'.Read more

Heute ist Kulturtag! Nach einem ausgiebigen Frühstück und einem 11:00-Uhr-Bierchen geht es zur Barbara-Kathedrale.
Geplant ist eine zweieinhalb-stündige Stadtführung. Unser „Führer“ ist ein älterer Herr, geschätzt auf Mitte 70. Nach einigen geschichtlich/historischen Informationen (in die Barbara-Kathedrale) können wir wegen einer Hochzeit noch nicht rein, beginnen wir einen mehr als interessanten Stadtrundgang. Nach reichlich zwei Stunden in sengender Hitze setzen wir uns dehydriert erst einmal zu einem Bierchen und ner Cola nieder, um dann im Welschen Hof noch einen „Prager Groschen“ (allerdings nicht aus Silber, wie im Mittelalter, sondern aus Alu) zu prägen. Neben der Besichtigung der Burganlage, die sozusagen Zweitwohnung des Königs Wenzel und seine Münzpräge sowie Schatzkammer war, ging es jetzt in die Barbara-Kathedrale.
Ein mittel bis spätgotischer und unvollendeter Sakralbau, der Bergleute Kuttenbergs. Einen Bischof gab es hier nicht, deshalb exakt: eine Kathedral-Kirche. Muss man gesehen haben... steht bautechnisch in vieler Hinsicht in der Reihe mittel- bis spätgotischen Kirchenbauten... ist aber durch einen eingebauten Balkon viel heller.
Nach nunmehr fast vier Stunden verabschieden wir uns von unserem „Franz“, voll mit historischen Eindrücken.
Der inzwischen quälende Hunger wird kulinarisch gestillt, danach chillen im Hotel.

You'll visit the Sedlec Ossuary (also known as the 'Bone Chapel') which draws visitors from all over the world who come to see the tens of thousands of human skeletons that decorate it. However, there is much more to see in Kutná Hora than just the Bone Chapel, as this tour takes you to one of the Czech Republic's oldest monasteries, to the gothic masterpiece Saint Barbara's Church.

The historical town center of Kutná Hora is so impressive that it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. During your walking tour in Kutná Hora, you'll see the splendour of the Italian Court (the Royal Mint), some of the most impressive gothic buildings in the Czech Republic and you'll understand why several Bohemian kings made the town their home.

In our group of 10, we had a couple from Geraldton, WA and a young couple from Manning, Perth. That's a suburb just 20 minutes away from us in Perth. Another member was young Chinese guy from California who was doing his first solo travel holiday for a fortnight in Europe. It was a lovely group, and much chatting was done.

The day ended with Dvorak's Rusalka Opera at the State Opera House. A beautifully ornate Opera House with frescoes and baroque architecture. The staging and set were state of the art and the orchestra and cast were outstanding.

Kutná Hora ist ein wirklich süßes Örtchen mit schönen Gassen. Das beeindruckendste ist aber bei weitem die Kirche St. Barbara.
Suprise, auch wieder UNESCO Welterbe 😆
Die Landschaft hat auch hier wieder in herbstlichen Farben gestrahlt. Wer also mal in Prag ist sollte unbedingt einen Abstecher hierher machen. Alleine die Kirche ist den Ausflug schon wert!Read more

Da Magdas Mutter, die in Prag lebt, gestern gesundheitliche Probleme angemeldet hat, haben wir beschlossen, unsere Ausflüge heute so auszurichten, dass wir am Abend in Prag sind. Mal schauen, was und wie es wird.
Käse, Pflanzen, zwei Hügel und umwerfende Kirchenbauten. Das fasst es zusammen.
Beeindruckend ist dieWallfahrtskirche des Hl. Nepomuk auf dem Grünen Berg in Zelona Hora. Alles hat Sterne als Grundform und die Zahl 5 ist wichtig. Man hat Nepomuks Zunge unbeschadet gefunden und ihn dann heilig gesprochen, weil er auch angesichts des Todes sein Beichtgeheimnis nicht verletzt hat. Nun gibt es diesen tollen Ort mit der Pilgerkirche.
Neugotisch erhebt sich dagegen die Kirche auf dem Kutna Hora. Könnte auch in Frankreich stehen. Prunk kennt keine Grenzen. Was hier an Geld Material und Menschen verschwendet wurde, hätte vielen Armen das Leben erleichtern können. Gott hatte es wohl nötiger.

Day bus trip to Kutna Hora, a town 70 km outside Prague. First stop was Sedlec Ossuary (Bone Church)- qualifies as the creepiest place I've ever visited ( surpasses even the bone catacombs we visited under Paris). Then on to Kutna Hora- UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Originally a silver mine and where the coins where made centuries ago. Also has the beautiful st Barbara Church. She is the saint for silver mining. Back to Prague in the late afternoon for a cruise on the river.Read more
