    September 22, 2015 in Czech Republic ⋅

The bus is late again........but this seems to be the happening thing in Europe. This time it was an overnight from Warsaw to Prague taking about 11 hours. Trav was not impressed that his fancy TV screen was broken but we both managed to get some sleep after knocking back some melatonin.

There was a random security check just inside the Czech Republic border where we had to dismount from the bus with our luggage and stand a line for the sniffer dogs. Suki's bag got picked out and then half heartedly searched by a police officer probably trying to top up his weed stash.

Checked into our Airbnb room which was a little like a hostel with the amount of rooms however the location and proximity to the old town was brilliant.

After a nap from the limited sleep on the bus we set off to explore. First stop was a picturesque rooftop bar overlooking the old town as the sun set in the background. With great tasting cheap beer it was hard to leave although for dinner we took a short walk through the old town and had a massive pork knuckle to share for dinner at a 500 year old brewery.

The next day we walked to the otherside of the river and explored the magnificent castle area and did a small hike to get up one of the surrounding hills which hosts a Eiffel Tower replica. On the way home we walked along the famous Charles bridge watching the tour boats and paddle boats navigate the river below.

It's only been a short stay but we've loved Prague and the price of food and beer here makes everything a little more special.

If it's going to rain... it should pour.

    June 26, 2016 in Czech Republic ⋅

We had a flight from Dublin to Prague using Ryanair. The flight was mainly spend sleeping, but it was great to experience Ryanair for a second time. This experience was much more worth it. YAY.

Landing in Prague became a culture shock as most signs are written in Czech and our AirBnB street was not displayed in any of the maps as it is a small street. The Hilton Old Town Prague was generous enough to explain the directions to our place. It was only a short walk from the metro station.

Our AirBnB is located beside a small Czech restaurant, the Grand Cru. It was very welcoming. Once entering the apartment we were immediately wowed by the layout. It has so much has so much room. With our own space, the girls and I became a human washing machine. We got some of our clothes washed and hung up before we went into the city area (it is so humid that our clothes are taking a long time to dry).

We walked along the canal to St-Charles Bridge. It was hear we rubbed the statue for good luck - more luck is coming our way. We walked into Prague, Old Town to explore. We returned the other way to get the famous donut ice cream comes. Yup, we were blown away by this delicious dessert. Here, we met two Canadians who have been traveling since May 17th. Their trip is coming to an end and they'll be back in Edmonton.

We decided on explore the streets. There were many bachelor and Bachelorette parties happening. Here, it appears, that the bride/groom where one outfit and their bridal party/groomsmen wore the same outfit. It was SO AWESOME to see. We tried to join in.

When the rain started, we found a supermarket and bought some food. It costed us about 3$ each (Canadian). Oh and this includes wine 🙌. In the market, the teller nearly robbed us of money arguing that we shouldn't have any change back, but she corrected her mistake once we repeated it. Then, we walked around Prague in the pouring rain to our place.

Showered, dried hair, OITNB, and bed. 😪

City of Absinthe, Segways and Small Dogs

    July 13, 2015 in Czech Republic ⋅

Our time in Prague seemed over too quickly. There were quite a few sights left to see, and the choice of eating places for vegetarians was so good we could have happily eaten many more meals there. Maybe another time...

Several themes kept recurring. There seemed to be a love of absinthe - lots of small shops with the dubious green spirit as the main selling point, window displays packed with an assortment of tiny bottles.

And Segways everywhere. There is a tour company which shows you around the city. On Segways. We saw one group heading up the street as we walked down from our hotel, the chap at the back of the line had a face which was a mask of pure terror as he gripped the handles. I'm not sure how many sights he actually saw.

We also saw many small dogs - one in a bag, some being carried, and lots just trotting along, their little legs a blur as they went. There were a few regular-sized dogs too, but small dogs definitely won on numbers.

As with any city there was quite a bit of graffiti sadly. However there seemed to be a big push in cleaning the buildings - many of them were swathed in scaffolding and plastic sheeting whilst people with what I assume were pressure cleaners were busy scouring away. Hopefully not too much erosion was taking place. The buildings in Prague were so beautiful, with the detailed plaster mouldings and the contrasting pastel colours, they need to be preserved and restored for the enjoyment of the Czech people and all those who visit. Including us!

    Prague, the next stop

    January 2, 2016 in Czech Republic ⋅

Today we head to prague for our honeymoon. Prague is the part of the trip where we would want to slow down and just chill. Thus most prob we will be chilling for 6 days here lol. Paul, the airbnb host was nice to come to the train platform to meet us in his long hair and bike lol. After a rumbling sounded walk with our luggage through the cobblestone streets, we reached a very nice loft studio that looks exactly like the pics in the airbnb listing. Me and wifey are glad that we made the change lol. And everything is really walkable distance!Read more
