We LOVE Copenhagen, Denmark. Neither of us have been here before, and while our expectations weren’t low, we were very curious. I could totally live here.

The capital city of Denmark, it is known for its rich history, vibrant cultural scene, and impressive architectural landmarks such as the Nyhavn waterfront and Tivoli Gardens. It has the Scandinavian feeling of relaxation, and people here are happy. You can sense it. Families and friends playing and lying on blankets in the park, folk enjoying a kæmp sausage in the town square, upscale shopping, sail boating, and, yes, people going about their work, too.

Bicycling is THE predominant mode of transport here. According to our guide, Copenhagen ranks second, only to Amsterdam, in terms of cycling. They have very wide bike lanes here and they absolutely have the right of way. Cycling to work and otherwise is looked upon very favorably here.

We took an amazing canal and harbor tour today and we visited Christisnsbojrg Palace and Amalienborg Palace. Denmark is a very successful country and Copenhagen’s historic structures remind of a time when they were a very strong empire. These days, with peace treaties in place and good cross-border commerce agreements, Denmark holds its own. Definitely a highlight of our trip so far!

Tomorrow is a sea day as we sail toward Hamburg, Germany where we’ll enjoy two days in port with excursions, an in-city ballet performance, and more.
