      National Strike

      June 14, 2022 in Ecuador ⋅ ⛅ 55 °F

Indigenous groups in Ecuador blocked some highways with mounds of earth and burning tires to protest economic policies of conservative President Guillermo Lasso.

We had to transit from Banos to Quito to make our flight to Curaçao. The protest had only started the day before and we were told the last protest was two weeks long.

At first, there was bairly anyone on the highway south of Cotopaxi national park. We approached the first blockade and had to start out on foot. Ultimately passing by multiple blockades of indigenous groups, from tree stumps to mounds of dirt. We met up with our driver on the other side of the first two blockades and we continued via motorcycle and truck bed to the last of the blockades. Safely made it to Quito after a long day of transit!
