      Über die Grenze nach Frankreich

      Guten Morgen liebe Leute

      War dieser Platz von letzter Nacht nicht herrlich? Ja trotzdem müssen wir weiter. Nochmal in die Lüfte mit Droni, dann zusammenpacken und weiter. Natürlich nicht der einfachere Weg sondern weiter den Waldweg….typisch Noldi 🙉🤪.

      Zum Glück ist es human. Ja zwar schon etwas Offroad aber ich war nicht schockgefährdet. Wer weiss, vielleicht gewöhne ich mich noch dran und vertraue Sprinti künftig mehr und auch meinem tollen Chauffeur. Ich arbeite dran 😉. Noldi ist ein perfekter Fahrer und Koch und Abwascher auf unseren Reisen. Herzlichen Dank dafür. Das ist unbezahlbar und er macht das sogar gerne. Was für ein Glück für mich.

      Wer kennt Kai von travelcampingliving (zu finden auf Youtube und Instagram)? Er reist ja mit seinen Bären. Einer ist der Copilot und Dronenflieger und Friedrich der Finanzchef. Na ja, bei uns bin ich das. Ich heisse ja auch Baer. Langsam habe ich die Platzsuche und Entsorgungsstellensuche ganz gut im Griff und wir hatten bis jetzt spitzenmässige Plätze. Geld für Camping haben wir bis jetzt keines gebraucht, was einen Finanzchef freut. Diesel hingegen jede Menge da wir ja schon bald bei 3000km sind. Auf allen Plätzen bis jetzt hatten wir keine Probleme und wir waren geduldet, meistens haben wir keine menschenseele getroffen.

      Heute gehts weiter. Wir suchen einen Platz in Frankreich um dann gemütlich den späteren Nachmittag zu verbringen und Hamburger zu kreiren. Kochen können wir gemütlich mit unserer Induktionsplatte draussen, Stromprobleme hatten wir nie dank Ecoflow, dem vielen Fahren und Dank der Sonne ☀️.

      Nachdem wir heute zuerst erfolglos nach einem Stellplatz gesucht hatten - zwei Plätze, die uns nicht wirklich zusagten - haben wir doch noch das perfekte Fleckchen gefunden. Entspannen am Flüsschen, ein Aperitif und dann leckere Burger - das Leben kann so schön sein! Nach einer erfrischenden Dusche sind wir nun bereit für eine Runde Spieleabend. Morgen steht eine frühe Abfahrt an, denn noch etwa 8 Stunden Fahrt liegen vor uns. Vielleicht machen wir noch einen Zwischenstopp in Frankreich oder der Schweiz. Samstag heißt es dann leider "Ferienende" - aber bis dahin genießen wir jeden Moment in vollen Zügen! 🍔🎲🚐.

      Rustig dagje

      Vandaag rustig dagje bij het huisje gehad. Het terrein een beetje verkend. Het is erg geaccidenteerd. Je hijgt als een oud molenpaard als je weer terug bent. Het hoogteverschil met de zwemplek en waterval is een meter of 40. Dus als je een verkoelende duik hebt genomen, zweet je als een otter als je weer bij het huisje bent. Dan kun je wel weer een verkoelende duik gaan nemen, maar ja...

      Om een uur of vier klapte de stroom eruit. Peggy (de eigenaresse) kwam even later vertellen dat het hele 'dorp' zonder stroom zit. Er is een 'urgence' uitgegaan en ze hoopt dat het vandaag nog verholpen wordt. Maar ja, leer mij Frankrijk kennen. 🙄
      We zullen zien.

      Nou, dat viel mee. We hebben weer stroom. De wonderen zijn de wereld nog niet uit. Vive la France ! 🇫🇷

      Nog meer regen

      Hadden we gisteren de hele dag door buitjes, om een uur of 22 ging het helemaal los. Het regende snoeihard en ook onweerde het flink waardoor de electriciteit er een keer of 7 uitklapte. Gelukkig kwam het ook steeds weer snel terug. Maar omdat de WiFi er dan ook uitklapte, werd m'n Netflix-avondje een ware beproeving. 🙄

      Omdat de weersverwachting voor vandaag niet veel beter was, heb ik bezoek aan de stad Albi maar uitgesteld naar morgen.

      Vandaag klaarde het rond drieën op en ben ik naar Ambivalent gereden. Een klein pittoresk plaatsje aan de Tarn. Niet superbijzonder en ik zat nog niet in de auto terug toen er weer een gigantische bui naar beneden kwam. Heb heel wat verzopen wandelaars gezien. Ben ik toch blij dat ik normale hobbies heb. 😂      Read more

      Cordes-sur-Ciel

      Am morgen frühstückten wir unser erstes französisches Morgenessen, und dann noch am Pool. Es gab Croissants, getoastest Brot, Früchte, Feigen&Bananen Konfi. Fromage blanc, eine Art Quark aber viel besser. Und Aprikosenkuchen..
      Fazit, très bien!

      Wir gingen dann zügig fort da wir wussten heute gibts 38 Grad plus.

      Unser Ziel war Cordes-sur-ciel.
      Es hat sich sehr gelohnt. Ein wunderschönes künstlerisches Städtchen. Mara hat endlich ihre Katzen gesehen. 🐱 😉
      Wir liefen rauf und genossen ein Kaffee, das Ziel war eigentlich dort etwas zu essen. Nur hatten wir beide kein Hunger mehr nach so einem Frühstück und in dieser Wärme.
      Wir dachten uns nichts und wollten später was in einem Laden holen.
      Tja nicht alle südlichen Länder haben am Sonntag offen. Also mussten wir auf die Autobahn um auf einer "aire du service" einkaufen gehen.
      Langsam wurde es knapp für Gérôme da seine Frau anfängt zu zwitschern wenn sie nichts zum Picken bekommt wie er so schön sagt. 🙈 (übersetzt Mara zickt manchmal sehr wenn sie Hunger hat)

      Aber alles nochmals gut gegangen.
      Den Nachmittag liessen wir am Pool ausklingen. Also rein, raus, kurz trocknen (38Grad) wieder ins Wasser usw.
      Mit den Hunden spielen, schade gehen wir morgen weiter. Aber es war eine wunderbare Unterkunft. 😍      Read more

      Day 44

      Last night in Albi

      June 26, 2023 in France ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

      So this afternoon I ventured out to get my nails done and it was fine (although not as good as lovely Antoinette on Hutt Street). Tried a lovely blue colour! Then we walked out to explore some of the newer parts of the city and saw a great statue of local hero, Laperouse and the war memorial and then spent some time looking for a new light top for me - it's getting warmer and warmer! Eventually we stopped for a drink in the main square. The 'pichet' of rose ordered was bad so we sent it back and settled for a slightly better 'blanc' and ran across the road for a bag of chips! We decided this is typical of eating in the main touristy spots - not as good and more expensive! We then went for a quick look at the Saint Salvi church whose bells we have been hearing regularly from our airbnb each day. Dinner in with the leftovers and we have been happy to do this for a change. Tomorrow is our next big adventure - long drive to Uzes where we are staying for 10 days. Looking forward to a more relaxed time!Read more

      From Lyon to Albi

      We left our apartment a little before 11 this morning, so a fairly leisurely start to the day. An easy time navigating the Lyon Metro was too good to be true. We picked up lunch at the gare and waited for our departure platform to be announced. Got on the train early enough to have an easy place to put our luggage, and then we waited. And waited. Apparently, there was a mechanical problem that caused us to be at least 30 minutes late pulling out. Not normally a problem but we only had 15 minutes scheduled to make our connection. Luckily they made up some time between Lyon and Toulouse that we were able to make our connection.
      The scenery changed a lot as we traveled down the mountainous Côtes du Rhône, through the Mediterranean coastline, then back into the hilly Occitanie. Our apartment owner kindly picked us up and brought us to the apartment in the old town, just steps away from the cathedral. All the outside photos are taken from the apartment windows.       Cathedrale Sainte-Cécile

      Upon completion of the food tour with Nastia we thought we should visit Albi’s Cathedral Sainte-Cecile. As previously mentioned, it is the largest brick Cathedral in the world. With it’s close proximity to the river it meant there was plenty of sand, rock and water to make the bricks.

      It is similar in its form and the simplicity of its lines to the Gothic churches of the Toulouse region, but exceeds them in size and in the line of its harmoniously distributed buttresses. On the southern side, its fortress-like appearance is softened by the Dominique de Florence doorway and by the four-poster porch, a masterpiece of flamboyant Gothic art. There is also a massive blind bell tower which is 78 metres high, underscoring the cathedral-fortress appearance of the building. Construction began in the 1200s, but there have been additions to the structure in the 1400’s and 1500’s.

      The exterior of this building is very plain and more resembles a fortress than a cathedral, but the interior is lavishly decorated with art and sculpture. It has a very ornate choir screen, and walls in bright blues and golds, in line with the Southern French Gothic style. Construction began in 1282 and continued for 200 years. Bernard de Castanet, who became Bishop of Albi in 1276, was the key figure behind the construction of this Gothic cathedral.      Read more

      After Cords Sue Ciel, we spent the afternoon exploring Albi.

      Albi is on the Tarn River and is dominated by the Cathedral Saint-Cecille, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is yet another town that dates from the Roman times.

      The cathedral was built over 200 years between the 13th and 15th centuries. It is the largest brick church in the world and also has the most wall paintings of all churches. We have seen a lot of churches over the last seven weeks and all are special and unique in their own way. They all make a statement.

      Albi is also where artist Toulouse Lautrec was born and there is a museum beside the cathedral where many of his works are displayed.

      French Explorer La Perouse was also from Albi.

      The bridges over the Tarn are impressive and are also part of the UNESCO heritage site.      Read more
