Paris Day 2 - Beauty & Sprain!

This morning we had breakfast in our room and then walked down to firstly see the Sainte Chappelle. It has been on our list for a VERY long time and did not disappoint. What beautiful leadlight in a magnificent setting. We parted with Phil & Diane after that and walked quite a long way to get to the Musee D'Orsay - a favourite of both of us. It was very crowded so we made sure we went to see the Degas & Manet exhibition and then some of our other favourites. All wonderful until I missed a step and twisted my ankle. Managed to walk all the way home but it's all swollen now!!Read more

Day 5 on the Seine

Was feeling a bit under the weather so didn't get up to much today. Visited Malmaison however, the home of the Bonapartes in the time Napoleon seized power. It was interesting to see the difference in the styles of the rooms he designed (which all looked like military tents) and the rooms designed by his wife Jospehine (which looked like miniature Versailles rooms).

Fun fact of the day: the little boy in the painting of Napoleon's coronation didn't actually attend the event. He was Napoleons step-grandson, asked to be included in the painting by Napoleon as a way to indicate who should inherit the throne should something happen to him.Read more

Paris the Beauty/Garnier Opera

Last night we had a wonderful couple of hours with John Mitchell and his wife Nicole and second baby Hayden. John was our neighbour and Luke's good friend when we lived in Azalea Street, Prospect:). They have lived in Paris for the last five years - working for the OECD and WHO. What a lovely young couple getting the most out of their lives. Nicole gave us a lovely box of Popelini - yummy miniature Paris creamy puffs/eclairs - various flavours and we have decided they are better than macarons! This morning we tried to UBER to the Garnier Opera House but the UBER rejected our request because it seemed very busy. We ended up taking the Metro. The Opera building is magnificent and certainly worth seeing again - and sharing it with the other three. (Photo 3 is looking down to our hotel lobby from our 5th Floor room. Glad there is a lift!Read more

Guten Morgen, liebe Sorgen🇫🇷

Da es unserer Mathilda leider immer noch nicht so richtig besser ging und sie starken Husten hat, sind wir am morgen gleich zu einem Krankenhaus gefahren, um uns vorzustellen mit ihr. Uns war wichtig, dass sie abgehört wird. Beim 2. Krankenhaus war auch ein Kinderarzt da und wir kamen sofort dran. Ganz liebe, fürsorgliche Schwestern machten den ersten Check up und auch die Ärztin kontrollierte ordentlich. Dann zum Glück Entwarnung. Bronchien und Lungen sind frei 💪wir waren dann noch in der Apotheke etwas für sie holen und sind dann nach dem einkaufen noch etwas weiter gefahren. Haben von der Ferne den Eiffelturm gesehen und sind dann noch ein Stück weitergefahren. Geschlafen haben wir wieder nur auf einem Parkplatz.Read more

The temperature has averaged 26 while we have been here. Looking at the weather in NZ it is going to be cold!

Glad to say I haven’t come across any bedbugs.

Going to miss France but it will be nice to be home.

Paris Beauty/Galleries Lafayette

After a good coffee (thank goodness - Italian coffee is MUCH better), we went on to Galleries Lafayette. Such a gorgeous store and besides the galleries we went up to the top of the dome and then to the roof to see magnificent views of Paris. Afterwards, we walked and got a little lost but saw some more areas of Paris e.g. the theatre area - Rocador - but it was busy everywhere! We also enjoyed another baguette with tomato, mozzarella and more! The bread in France is better than in Italy!Read more

Bin heute bestimmt 70% Feldwege gefahren. Das war sehr anstrengend, weil ich immer aufpassen musste, nicht in ein Loch zu fahren. Zum fotografieren bin ich nur selten gekommen, da es nicht viel zu sehen gab. In der Gegend ist sehr viel Industrie angesiedelt (Renault, Peugeot, Esa und andere). Hier hin kommen viele Menschen aus anderen Teilen Frankreichs, wo es keine Arbeit gibt, wie mir ein freundlicher redseliger türkischstämmiger Franzose erzählte. Ich bin wieder oft auf dem Fahrrad angesprochen worden. Ich bin wohl eine Rarität, als alleinreisende Frau mit einem Fahrrad.
Das Video stammt von gestern abend auf dem Campingplatz. Ich bin hier auf dem bisher teuersten Campingplatz der Reise und um Paris herum, wird es auch nicht billiger. Ich fahre morgen mit dem Zug nach Paris rein.Read more

A short walk from Franck’s mother’s home is the largest equestrian park in Europe. It used to be a part of Versailles. The show jumping and dressage for the 2024 summer Olympics will be held here as Paris is hosting.

There were rows and rows of stalls and classes being held across multiple rings and buildings.

There was even a 400 year old oak on the property.Read more
