    Le Cite de Vin

    February 16, 2017 in France ⋅ 🌙 10 °C

Cool this morning so I headed to the wine museum. It was huge and took me 4.5 hours to get through it. Lots of information and lots of hands on stuff. I finished off with my tasting on the 8th floor overlooking the city. They actually were actually pouring a 2014 Note Bene from Black hills winery and last week a 2013 Syrah from Painted Rock. I told the ladies I was from that region and they were full of questions and I was happy to talk about the okanagan wines. They even had a flyover of the okanagan featured in their film. It's a huge facility. They had absolutely no ice wines from Canada. Heading off to La Rochelle tomorrow. Booked myself into a hotel with my hotels bonus points and am using my one free night. After I check out tomorrow I will have another free night that u will use later. Yippee! Huge luxury bed!Read more

    I could live here forever!

    February 15, 2017 in France ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Such a beautiful clean and fit city. People are really friendly as well. I headed for the market this morning but it want on do I decided to cross the Pont de Pierre and check out the other side. The area was called Stalingrad and was much quieter. Took some photos from that side and another stellar day for weather. Saw the Grand Theatre, place de la Bouse, port de Bourgoyne, Grosse Cliche, Hotel de Ville, Palais Rohan, Jardin Public and walked Ste. Catherine shopping row. Lots of cheese, pate, bread and wine consumption here. I decided to do like the locals and by myself some duck pate which was superb. Going to go to the small wine museum just 20 metres down the road from me. Cellar tour and wine tasting if two wines for €5. It was a great day to walk 12km today.Read more

    La Cité du Vin, Bordeaux

    May 5, 2018 in France ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Back to Bordeaux to dock for the end of the fabulous cruise. Free day in the city so I decided to hit as many sights that I missed earlier. Love, love, loved Cite du Vin (thanks Robin!). It is super high tech with all kinds of hands on exhibits, ALL ABOUT WINE. It is said that to do the entire museum takes 9 hours. I was limited for time, and was able to cover two of the eight floors. Well done and super sleek.Read more

    Tour of Bordeaux

    September 24, 2018 in France ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

This morning we visited Bordeaux by motor coach and on foot. The city is located on the left bank on a bend of the Garonne River and was known as the Port of the Moon. It is also called the Sleeping Beauty. According to our local guides the Beauty has awakened due to a massive revitalization of the waterfront during the last 20 years. The warehouses that lined the docks have been torn down revealing the lovely 18th century buildings of the city center. It was named a UNESCO world heritage site in 2007. We saw the Grand Theater, the stone bridge commissioned by Napoleon, Notre Dame church and the memorial monument to the Girondins, who supported a constitutional monarchy during the French Revolution but lost their heads during the Reign of Terror. We also strolled down the Rue St.Catherine, said to be the longest pedestrian shopping street in Europe. It follows the path of an old Roman road.

The ship cast off for Libourne after lunch so we spent the afternoon on board enjoying the sunshine. The chef also demonstrated how to make macarons. Délicieux!. Speaking of delicious we had one of our best meals that evening: escargots, Châteaubriand and crêpes suzettes! With Bordeaux wines of course. Our dinner companions were a lovely couple from England, Bob and Martine (who is French). A pianist and vocalist have provided our entertainment each evening. Tonight she sang music from operas. Her voice was amazing. A nice way to end the day.

    Dr.Jekyll and Ms.Hide

    May 26, 2018 in France ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

The difference between our host's was incredible 😂! One was Sebastien and the other was Lena😂 (they can used as polar opposites from now)!
Day 1 : Well Sebastien's home was weird actually😅 with loads of toys, comics and God knows what all! It was dirty although he was super hospitable. We took a walk round the city, a kebab and later a guided tour😊. Sleep was easy although the guy was sharing too much information😂!
The room felt like a place not to be (like the room of a compulsive porn addict with a big stomach 😂 incapable of finding a sexual partner). The smoke in the room was intoxicating 😣 and the bathroom felt awkward to be in😂. Sleep was quick and so was our exit from the house!
Day 2 : Got up late, went to the Darwin. That place is so different from Bordeaux it's super hip with lots of graffiti! There were some people performing stunts😮. Playing cards was fun there as well😂 (both the others are really dumb no offence)!
The hotdog was nice as well, the movie too with some funny parts😊.

    Le Cité du Vin

    August 12, 2018 in France ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Le Cité du Vin Is a museum in Bordeaux about wine, it's history in the region, viniculture, and more. The first pic is of the building, followed by interior pictures. The last two are of the 360° theater room where we tasted 4 wines from around the world (see the last picture). Each wine was accompanied by a video of somewhere in the world that either related to where the wine was made or to a cuisine the wine might go with. They even pumped in scents that related to the videos. Amazingly well done, and really good wines.Read more
