      Bike tour around Paris

      April 8 in France ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Bike tour around Paris was amazing. Best way to see the city and get some history of some of the big sites around the French revolution. 4 hour bike trip and around 14km. The tour group had 2 people from Seattle.

Long walk back to the hotel after lunch at an Italian restaurant.

Small dinner at a restaurant behind the hotel. Big Day of walking and bike riding. Kids did well to do all the activities.

      Tour d'eiffel und Louvre

      June 6, 2019 in France ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

      Paris 10th - 12th

      May 11, 2018 in France ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

It’s a sunny morning here in Paris and I’m up bright and early... other two not so much! Anyway I’m going to make the most of my time here so after getting ready I decided to go shopping 😁 There are some really nice places along the street near our hotel including a wine shop, patisserie and flower shop. First stop.. wine! The man in the shop was very helpful and talked me through which type of wine he would recommend and the flavours etc... I just agreed and had no idea what he was on about! Next stop... patisserie where I bought 2 chocolate éclairs and a giant macaron for Leah who has been desperate to try one! After buying the nicest looking cakes I gave the flowers a miss after deciding they were a bit too hard to get home on a plane. Back to the hotel I went where the other two had woken up and were greeted with cakes which we ate later on in the day!

First item on our list of things to do today was the Eiffel Tower. Let’s be honest you can’t go to Paris and not see the Eiffel Tower!!! Katie was amazed at how big it is in real life 😂 It’s a shame you can’t walk under it anymore as they have fenced off a large area around it. We decided to be very French and go and buy baguettes from a local patisserie and eat them on the Champs-Elysees looking at the eiffel tower... all very nice.

Next thing to see... the Arc de Triomphe. We walked about 30 minutes next to the river and up a street of shops to find it. Once their we were highly entertained at the madness of the roundabout surrounding it with cars going every direction narrowly avoiding one another. This is one roundabout I would never want to drive!

We then started to head back towards the Eiffel Tower via Paris’ oxford street! Looking for somewhere to get a drink we decided this street probably wasn’t the best place to look as prices were extortionate. Passing Louis Vuitton we spotted 3 Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s that we could only dream we would own one day😂 Before we knew it we were back to the riverside and found a nice bar where we had a relaxing drink in the sun.

Time was getting on and so we decided to head back towards where we were staying. After finding a few more shops to have a nosy in we went back to the hotel to rest our feet for an hour and get ready to go out again for the evening.

Along near our hotel we found a lovely little French looking restaurant where we had some French wine and some amazing food!!! One thing we all love about France is how they give you bread before your main meal comes out and we even got given a glass of popcorn! We sat here chatting and enjoying our time in Paris long into the night until we decided it was getting late and we should probably get some rest.

We have our last train journey tomorrow :( :) Mixed emotions... sad that it’s nearly the end, dreading the 6 hours sat there (although 6 hours goes fast now to us), very very excited that we are going to Spain and also extremely happy that we don’t have to get on another train!!!!😁😁😁

      UEFA EURO 2016

      June 21, 2016 in France ⋅ 🌧 22 °C

      ## 2016.06.21 18:00 at Parc des Princes
      ## Northern Ireland vs. Germany

      Paris Day Two

      October 1, 2015 in France ⋅ 🌙 11 °C

Spent the day in the Montmartre district of Paris which used to be it's own little town around a hill outside Paris's walls where the stuffy Parisians could go to to let their hair down , this is where the Moulin Rouge is, where Van Gogh and Picasso spent a bit of their lives and where the Church of Sacre Crouer is with a painter's square near by.

We started with a great free (with tips) tour of the area with a local Monmartre-an (who prefer not to be cslled Parisian) who took us through all the local side streets and dodged all the crowds while pointing out all the intetesting parts of the area which is how I got a baguette from the bakery that won the seats for best baguette in 2015 which means they win the right to providr for the French President breakfast for a year.

Oh and we ate at a Tibetan restaurant for dinner once I verified its street cred :p We also had coffee at CB cafe which as it turns out stood for "cooka burra" cafe and was Australiasian themed so we're kinda mixing it up a little foodwise

      Paris Day Three

      October 2, 2015 in France ⋅ 🌙 10 °C

The Palace of Versailles! We started with a guided tour of the Kings private apartments that are not open to the public and are even kept shut out from the sunlight, when people aren't in the rooms , to prevent fading. Each desk is worth well over a million euro as was the China. We also got to sit in the grand Versailles opera house.
We then used Rick Steves audio guide aa we walked through the public chambers and the hall of mirrors.
We ended by going over the grounds of the palaces which is also sprinkled with Marie Antoinettes Mini palaces

      Paris Day 4

      October 3, 2015 in France ⋅ 🌙 12 °C

      The Louvre
We got into the Louvre via the shopping mall/ metro entrance that skips all the crowds and then used Rick Steves audio guide to do a greatest hits tour and then went to the castle ruins underneath the museum and the Egyptian section. Oh and since the Louvre was the Royal palace before Versailles there's opulent ceiling art and gilded crenellations all over.

We then walked all the way from the Louvre through the Concorde square , down the Chams Elysee and to the Arc du Triumph

      Paris Day Five

      October 4, 2015 in France ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

      Notre Dame
We went and took a walking tour of Notre Dame and the surrounding area, aside from the Cathedral itself we got to see a little neighborhood that used tombstones for staira, a police station built where a group of 15th century murderers preyed on solo vistors and disposed of the bodies Sweeney Todd style. We also tried out Frances best ice cream at Berthillons. There was also the key bridge and the area where Heloise and Abellard lived whose real life doomed romance are a key part of French literature.
Oh and a gamer bar and the outside of the Pantheon, we tried to get to the Paris Catacombs but it turned out that while it closes at 8 it only admits people before 7
