Mysty Dordogne

Nach einer kühlen Nacht erleben wir die Dordogne von ihrer mystischen Seite. So sehr, dass wir das Frühstück im Bus einnehmen und kurz die Heizung anmachen. Danach per Rad auf den Festungshügel der Bastide de Domme, was gleich wieder wärmt. Tolle Ausblicke in eine liebliche Landschaft, ein sehr schön erhaltenes Dorf, angenehme Atmosphäre zumindest am zeitigen Vormittag.

Der Schriftsteller Henry Miller soll gesagt haben, die Dordogne sei jene Gegend, welche der Vorstellung von Paradies am nächsten komme. Diese Aussage scheint mir nachvollziehbar.

Meine angeborene Neugier lässt mich stets mal wieder was Neues ausprobieren. Gehört natürlich dazu, dass dies auch mal schief gehen kann: Das - im Land der unzähligen Walnussbäume - biologisch handgebraute Nuss-Bier von La Lutine würde ich definitiv nicht weiterempfehlen.Read more

Up at 6.45am, shower, breakfast and the concierge service fellow came around 9.30am to inspect the apartment and returned the 100 euro cash deposit. Left Residence Eterle, Soucastet, 14 L, Avenue de Saint Sauveur, Luz-Saint-Sauveur in the Occitania region of the French Pyrenees around 10.45am. Picnic lunch in a beautiful nineteenth century village Gigouzac in the Occitania French region about 40 minutes drive before Cenac-et-Saint-Julienne in the Dordogne French region around 2pm. We arrived at the Domme hilltop town in Dordogne France around 3pm and we were able to get into the 3.30pm Grotte de Domme limestone cave tour which lasted 40 minutes. This cave has stalactites and stalagmites, straws and shawls. The entrance to the Domme cave is located under the 17th century Hall currently used as the tourist office. The cave extends under the stone houses of the village. Discovered in 1912, the cave was not really exploited until 1954. The current show cave route descended through three cave levels and is 450 metres in length.Read more

Domme Dordogne France Tue 3 Oct 2023

After the cave tour Yvonne and I had coffee. We returned to the car using a different gate through the town wall passing cyclamen growing wild while walking outside the town wall. We arrived at the car around 5.15pm and drove to our accommodation at Cottage du Capiol en Perigord, Le Capiol, Cenac-et-Saint-Julien in the French Dordogne region and arrived around 6pm. The cottage was a three story semi with a different design and age to the attached buildings on either side. The ground floor had a bedroom which Karen and Richard used. The first floor had the living area. The attic is where Yvonne and I slept. Each floor was connected by steep curving staircases. At 7pm walked into Cenac-et-Saint-Julien to purchase dinner. Unfortunately the town did not have a supermarket or general store. However the patisserie sold us quiche and pastries which Yvonne and I had for dinner while Richard and Karen drove to another town to find a restaurant that was open for their meal.Read more

Day 10
Domme, Sarlat, and a long walk

Yesterday we drove to Domme to check out its weekly market, but by the time we got there, only a few booths remained open. The fortified town is stunning, but all the businesses were closed over the lunch hour and/or the winter months, plus it was cloudy and the views were quite limited. On our way back to the car, we stepped into the local cemetery and were greeted by a couple very vocal cats! We hung out with them for a bit and decided to move on to Sarlat for some shopping, and return to Domme another time.

Sarlat was busier, and we got gas, grocery shopped and wandered the old town some more, then drove home. Charlotte's muscles were sore from riding the day before, so she stayed home and Aaron and I took a 3+ mile walk before sunset.

We are quickly learning that not a lot happens during the winter in this area, but the quiet pace is really lovely for the most part!Read more

We spent several days in Sarlat back in 2006. It was summertime and there was a lot to see, including a wonderful outdoor market. Finn, who was 8 at the time, got his hair cut there. We went to some cave paintings close by. I’ll look for your other posts! How exciting. [Jenny Hughes]

Radelausflug nach Domme

Jetzt sind wir schon eine Woche unterwegs und ziemlich entspannt. Der Campingplatz ist wie leergefegt und wir haben absolute Ruhe. Gestern Abend haben wir das erste Mal den Grill angeschmiessen und Gemüse gegrillt, da es hier in der Gegend sehr fleischlastig ist, schadet das nicht. Heute mit dem Rad Bergauf und bergab gefahren und Domme besichtigt. Nette kleine Stadt auf einem Berg gelegen, herrlicher Blick in Dordogne Tal. Ort hat eine Bastide und auch einen Eingang in eine Tropfsteinhöhle die wir aber nicht besichtigt haben.
Mit dem letzten Tröpfchen Akku zurückgekommen 😁🚲 Heute ziemlich bewölkt und mal keine 30°(25) tut auch gut. Morgen geht's dann weiter nach Perpignan ans Meer. Ach einen total Ausfall gab's leider auch schon. Günters Stuhl löst sich in seine Bestandteile auf. 😊Read more

Radeln rund um die Dordogne

Morgens zum kleinen Markt in Cenac, dann bergauf nach Domme - schönes Städtchen aber schade dass die Autos nicht draußen bleiben müssen
Nachmittags nach Roque Gageac, schön am Felsen aber sehr voll - mal später in der Saison oder frühmorgens hierhin
Radweg Richtung Sarlat/ Montfort gesucht, ziemlich über die Hügel gefahren dann durch Vitrac nach Montfort - an der Straße entlang waren wir dann in 15 min am CampingRead more
