      Paris 🇫🇷

      July 21, 2022 in France ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

      First night in Paris !
Big day on the train but my hostel was very social so went straight to dinner and had splurged a bittt with my new friends trying some snails that mmm were so good.
Then me and Bryn shared a main to save some $$
We all went to the Eiffel Tower and saw it sparkleee and of course had to do the classic bridge tourist shot 🤓
I left with some girls at the tower who were going back to the hostel because the rest of my friends were going out but I was tired from the trains.
Next morning I wake up and see Niamh who I had met at the Eiffel Tower come into the room with a huge bandage on the middle finger and looking like she was about to burst into tears. Poor girl had been on an electric scooter and somehow had fallen off and it had then somehow ran over her finger which a piece of is now forever in front of the Eiffel Tower. I had just met her an hour before this happened.
She had been at the emergency room all night alone and was about to go to surgery and the pharmacy alone so I went with her. She learnt French at school so new a bit so I couldn’t really help out much but on the hospital papers I am her cousin so please welcome her to the fam xx but the moral support was all there. I will visit her in Scotland sometime during my trip I hope.
Pranked mum with the hospital selfies and questions about insurance so we had a giggle while we were waiting. Big day. She had a yellow hand after surgery from the amnesia so got a few curious looks. Forever flipping us off ;)

Scout had flown in and was at the hostel so got a very excited photo sent to me too and then on the way back from the hospital we were both walking along the canal and I see scout walking towards us (unplanned) and for a second I didn’t know it was her but then she saw me and we ran so fast and had a big hug and that was so nice to see my lovelyyy best franddd again after 2 whole months :)))) 🥰🥰🥰

      63ème étape ~ Paris (jour 1)

      September 30, 2022 in France ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

      Iconic Paris

      September 17, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 64 °F

We did the Eiffel Tower climb this morning - a first for me. I didn’t do it the last trip. It was 674 stairs to the 2nd floor - and then we took the elevator to the summit, the height of an 81 story skyscraper. Back when it was built in 1889 (for the Worlds fair) it was the tallest structure in the world at that time!

We learned all sorts of things on our tour - one fact I found interesting: when The Nazis invaded France, Hitler wanted a photo op of him personally hanging the Nazi flag from the top of the tower. The French would not hear of it, and cut the cables to the elevators, rendering them useless - and Hitler was said to have been afraid of heights and wouldn’t do the hike to the top - so no Nazi flag ever was flown. They said “you can take our country, but you cannot take our tower”.

We walked through the river area and saw a few sites on the way - I love seeing the Egyptian obelisk. It was a gift to the French, and an identical one stands at the Luxor temple with a blank space representing this one. Fun that I’ve seen them both! Then went to the Arc de Triumph. A military monument built in the center of Paris. That turned out to be another 282 stairs. My legs were shaking by the time we got down.

We jumped on a hop on/hop off bus for a bit of a rest - which are really nice if you ever get a chance. Very relaxing. Then went on a Seine River cruise. We topped off our evening seeing the Eiffel Tower at night all lit up. Pretty sight.

La Tour Eiffel de nuit ✨️

      March 31, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Absolut traumhaft. ✨️

      Eifelturm

      June 4, 2022 in France ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Read more

      Eiffel Tower big day

      September 9, 2023 in France ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

After the late arrival of the two rubgy fans home, three snuck out for brekkie and came back to pick up the stragglers. Kel decided to have a relaxing day, so Susie, Beth, Louise and I went off in search of the hop on hop off bus pick up point. Only a mere 1.8km walk to the Louvre and we were on to it. What a beautiful and exciting city Paris is. Such fun on the HoHo but man the heat was pretty oppressive today. Stayed on board, even though I had said I was going up the Eiffel Tower come hook or by crook, but common sense dictated that might be for a cooler day in the future. Hopped off at Lafette and had a good nosy round the beautiful shops. Lunch at Paul and Juliennes place, smoked trout and a cheese platter. delicious.
Tonight we have been on our Seine Cruise Dinner and what an experience that was. Delicious food from the start to end, and oh my god, Paris in lights is unforgettable…. just the icing on the cake for me.
Everyone is scattering to different events tomorrow but Im sure. you will hear all about it. Time for bed, its 1.00am and Beth and I have to be up and gone by 6 xx

      May 6, 2022 in France ⋅ ☀️ 52 °F

This was a dream come true... Éowyn told me it was on her bucket list. Then she freaked out about it.

You guys, it's a lot of stairs. A LOT. We all made it, but thank goodness they have a cafe and toliets at the second level.Read more

      Eiffel Tower - Cam's Birthday Part 1

      April 9, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 4 °C

Happy Birthday Campbell! When we planned this trip, we asked Cam where he wanted to be for his birthday. His first response was with his cousins in Paris, then more specifically up on top of the Eiffel Tower. It was an early start to get there and we queued for nearly 2 hours before finally making it into the lift. The tour guide we were with filled in the time however with some interesting facts and history about the tower, one of the more interesting is that the French Government paid for only two thirds of the construction. Gustave Eiffel, the owner of the engineering company commissioned to create the structure, needed to fund the rest. In the negotiations, he had the government agree to his ownership of the tower. The tower remains in the Eiffel family estate to this day.

Eventually, we made it onto the lift and up to level 2. Jack's aversion to heights kicked in and he felt quite uncomfortable, however to his credit, he made it all the way to the top and can tick it off his list. At level 2, we wandered around and took in the open air view of the city.

After a while, we made our way (via another extensive queue) to the lift to head to the top of the tower. Some 300m above the Champs de Mars, we are afforded spectacular views of the city. Fred found exactly how high we were, 280m, and the wait was all worth it.

Parijs is nog ver, maar niet vandaag

      July 28, 2022 in France ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Vandaag reden wij onze rustdag tegemoet. We overleven alles! Read more

      Best Easter Ever! 🐣

      April 17, 2022 in France ⋅ ☀️ 7 °C

Early start to beat the queues for what was going to be a cultural overload of a day!

Spent over 2 hours in the Louvre and got to see the Greats .... can you see the resemblance between Mona and I?

Then remembered it was Easter and just had to have macaroons from Ladurie in the absence of any Easter Eggs.

Still hungry, we tried a hip, modern place called Kith. Ordered French toast which actually came out more as a French loaf!!

Then off to 59 Rue Rivoli, to explore local french artists on 5 floors of pure creativity!

Then a romantic stroll down the Champs Elysee with obligatory Eiffel Tower selfie!

But the hands-down, best visit was to the grandiose, opulent and breathtakingly beautiful Paris Opera House. Can't quite describe the majestic ceilings, amphitheater and stage.... just know I desperately wanted a ball gown and some glass slippers!
