    Villefranche-sur-Mer, Altstadt

    March 25, 2019 in France ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

Read more

    Villafranche sur Mer, France

    June 21, 2019 in France ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

We finished our day excursion and arrived back at the ship in plenty of time. No so sure about others though. I saw a couple of people running for the gang plank 10 minutes after departure time and even though they made it, the crew appeared to be looking for others.

I'm really impressed with the cruise so far. Everything is so spic and span and the crew are exceptionally friendly. My only complaint is having to say the same greeting 20 or 30 times depending on the time of day.

Jo is a bit overwhelmed with the number of people everywhere and the size of the buffet. I love the buffet with all the choices available. A bit of this and a bit of that goes a long way.

We docked on the Cote de D’azur this morning at a place called Villefranche sur Mer. It is a port next to Nice but unfortunately we won't visit there. Luckily, we have been there before and remember it very well. We joined our tour and drove to the mountain village, Eze. The views were breathtaking and many a photo was taken. It sits about 800 metres above sea level with panoramic views of the sea and coastline.

From there, we went to the famous perfume factory, Fragonard. Jo and granny were there 6 years ago and Jo was happy to replenish her perfume stocks. It's not everyday we get to visit France or the perfume factory so best to make the most of it.

From Eze, we went to Monte Carlo. Saw so many Ferraris, Porsches, Aston Martins etc., it wasn’t funny. It's our second time here but we were able to see sights we missed last time. A very spectacular city with out of this world scenery. How the other half live!!

We gave discovered there are 3 classifications of people on a cruise...the bogans...the average people and the pretenders who think their you know what doesn't stink. The latter forget their flatulence gives them away. These people take great delight in volunteering how many cruises they've been on. Between 50 and 65 is considered a good number and worth bragging about. I feel like asking them if they have a life or if cruising is the only way they can pass the time. Still each to their own I suppose.

We went to the cabaret tonight and had a great time. The artist was Claire Maidin whom I had never previously heard of but she was sensational. Exceptional pianist, vocalist and performer. We loved it and will back there for tomorrow night's show which is primarily dancing.

    Another perfect 33 degree day........

    Villefranche-sur-Mer, France

    May 7, 2017 in France ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

I'm probably getting a bit blasé about some of the ports, as I didn't bother getting off at Villefranche, couldn't be bothered with the tendering. But I have been a number of times and it is a beautiful little town.Read more

    Villefranche-sur-Mer, France

    September 18, 2017 in France ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Today we are anchored off the beautiful little French town of Villefranche-sur-Mer. After breakfast I got the tender across as I had planned to have a mooch about, one thing I did want to see was Rue Obscure, which is a 13th century covered street hidden beneath the buildings in the old town. It's a wonderful atmospheric little street, and you feel transported way back in time as you walk it.
After that I had a walk up to the Citadel Saint Elme, which now houses three small museums, a military museum, a film museum and the third is more of an art gallery with work by the sculptor Volti.
All in all a very pleasant and interesting couple of hours, and most importantly to me all completely free.

    July 15, 2016 in France ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

After an uneventful day at sea, and quite rough and rocky night, this morning we arrive in Villefranche - sur-mer 🇫🇷.
This is the port for trips to Nice and Monaco 🇲🇨.
Now today there are two problems.
1, the weather, as it's a tender port, if the sea is to rough we won't be able to tender in.
And 2, the terrible events in Nice yesterday, where there was a suspected terrorist attack, and 80 people were killed and many more injured by a truck, which drove into the crowds of people celebrating Bastille Day.
This will put a lot of people off going ashore.
There seems to be no end to the violence and killing, so called in the name of religion.
On a lighter note, soft arse (me) fell over in the cabin the night before last.
I was trying to undo my shoe laces, with my foot up on a chair.
When I did a Del Boy and toppled over and hit my cheek on the table.
Needless to say, alcohol had a big part to play in the event.
Also I swear that the Captain swerved to avoid a fish or something.
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. 🤕
