      Toulouse 🎬02

      Toulouse hat ja nicht nur eine sehr quirlige Innenstadt, sie ist auch die Stadt der Raum- und Luftfahrt. Und wenn wir schon in Toulouse sind, ist ein Besuch bei den Luftfahrtpionieren Pflicht.
      Gegen Abend gab‘s zur Belohnung einen sehr guten Cocktail in einem der vielen Restaurants. Am Weg zu unserem Uber Taxi sind wir dann noch bei einer öffentlichen Tanzveranstaltung hängen geblieben. Thomas wollte ja unbedingt auch tanzen, aber leider war ihm sein Rucksack im Weg. 😉🤭
      Wir sind froh, diesmal nicht an Toulouse vorbeigefahren zu sein, sondern diese Stadt besucht zu haben.      Read more

      Visite de Toulouse

      Grosse journée de visite à Toulouse aujourd’hui qui fut très intéressantes. Après avoir été a l’office du tourisme hier on a décidé de faire notre propre visite de Toulouse. Une ville universitaire avec plein de jeunes et des rues piétonnes qui rendent la visite vraiment intéressante.
      Nous avons fait notre première visite au Capitol qui abrite la mairie de Toulouse. Vous pouvez voir les photos en retournant dans les photos de la journée d’hier et un vidéo de la salle des illustres.
      Ensuite nous nous sommes dirigés vers le couvent des Jacobins qui nous a surpris par sa grandeur et ses fresques qu’ils essaient de préserver du mieux possible. Nous avons marché le long de la Garonne pour se rendre à la place de la Daurade en longeant la Argonne sur le quai de Henry Martin. Après ces visites une petite pose pour se restaurer et prendre une bonne bière tres appréciée. Après le repas nous sommes allés à notre appart pour une petite sieste pour nous donner le courage de repartir et arpenter les rues commerciales de Toulouse. En passant par la place Victor Hugo où les gens peuvent jouer aux échecs ou aux dames dans le parc. Nous avons jeter un coup d’œil aux fameuses Galeries Lafayette et pour une dernière visite nous avons visité la Cathédrale St Étienne qui est superbe. Incroyable que l’on ait construit ces énormes cathédrales dans les années 1500 et 1700 sans laser sans monte charge et qui ont traversé le temps. Le pont tunnel est à refaire après 55 ans je crois.
      Nous avons pris un dernier spritz à Toulouse sur une terrasse pour vivre la ville et sommes entrés à la maison pour un léger goûter et se préparer pour notre dernière aventure vers Bordeaux demain

      Train entre Toulouse et Bordeaux

      Comme disait si bien Gilbert Bécaud : «  on prend toujours un train pour quelques part un grand train bleu un grand train blanc un grand train noir…. Et bien ce matin on prenait notre dernier grand train qui nous amènera à Bordeaux notre destination finale.
      Ce matin à notre réveil nous avons réalisé que notre train partait seulement à 12:34. Donc une dernière petite tournée dans la belle Toulouse. En allant chercher des croissants j’ai découvert un magnifique marché intérieur et extérieur de poissons, charcuteries, boucherie, confiseries et pâtisseries tout simplement sublime. Donc les premières photos seront de ce merveilleux marché. Après cette courte visite et des échanges avec les marchants nous nous sommes dirigés vers la gare de Toulouse pour prendre notre train une balade de 2:15 qui a très bien été.
      Pour ne pas changé nos habitudes nous avons visité l’office du tourisme pour s’enquérir de ce qu’il y a d’intéressant à voir à Bordeaux 4 jours mais vraiment 3 jours car mardi nous reprenons les airs pour un retour à la maison tôt. Les gens ont été très sympathiques et généreux à nous informer sur toute les possibilités de Bordeaux et elles sont grandes.
      Finalement nous nous sommes assis à une terrasse pour prendre une bière et deux dames assises à une table nous ont interpellé pour savoir de quel endroit nous venions du Québec . Une venait de Gatineau et l’autre de Blainville, elles arrivaient de 6 semaines du pèlerinage de Compostelle. Nous les avons félicité de leur courage et force de caractère
      Nous avons tout de même eu une bonne journée de marche avec plus de 15,000 pas.
      Demain nous continuerons de visiter Bordeaux qui semble magnifique.

      Skøn dag i Toulouse bymidte. Virkelige en smuk by, med mange monumenter og historiske bygninger. Vi nød solen og den smukke by.
      Vi tog bussen og derefter metroen ind. Det var vores ilddåb med metro, det gik jo nemt. 🙂Read more

      Nach dem gestrigen Regen ist es etwas kühler geworden, also für eine Stadtbesichtigung recht angenehm.
      Da heute am Sonntag der Bus nicht so oft fährt, haben wir uns mit Uber in die City fahren lassen.
      Den ganzen Tag waren wir in Toulouse unterwegs und diese Stadt gefällt uns echt gut.
      In der Innenstadt gibt es viele Fußgängerzonen, viele kleine Bars und Restaurants, eindrucksvolle Kirchen und Gebäude und es waren auch viele Geschäfte offen. Immerhin ist ja Sonntag.      Read more

      Exploring Toulouse

      We headed out this morning to see a bit more of Toulouse. Unfortunately, being a Monday, some monuments, museums, art galleries and churches were closed. Firstly, we found a lovely café to have some breakfast and, they made great coffee, which was a real bonus. We then headed down to the nearby Place De La Daurade, located next to the Garonne river and then wandered through the streets towards Place du Capitole.

      Place du Capitole is a very large public square, with the Capitole building - the Toulouse city hall - located on one side. It was a fairly windy day and it was very gusty in the square, so much so that a couple of large umbrellas were blown over as we were walking past.

      The Capitole building has gone through many changes through the centuries, with construction first beginning in 1190. It was a centre of contention during the 1562 Toulouse Riots with Huguenot forces holding it. The current facade, 135 m long and built of the characteristic pink Toulouse brick in Neoclassical style, dates from 1750 and was built according to the plans of Guillaume Cammas. Eugène Violet-le-Duc, who restored Château Comtal in Carcassonne, built a bell tower on top of the donjon (keep) of the building.

      In the first half of the 19th century, the structures surrounding the vast Place du Capitole were redesigned but the current facade was not touched. Within the Toulouse City Hall there is a free exhibition of wonderful art which, luckily for us, was open.

      As you head upstairs there are elaborate paintings and the staircase is made of marble. The first hall you enter is Gervais Hall, a former wedding hall. The Henri-Martin Room is the second room you enter. It is an historic room that regained its former splendour in the 20th Century thanks to the Toulouse painter Henri Martin (1860 - 1943). This room, built in 1605, is one of the oldest parts of the present Capitole. Until the Revolution it housed a gallery of portraits of the Capitouls (governing magistrates). The painter Henri Martin, who had made a name for himself in the Parisian salons was appointed in 1900 to decorate this newly restored room. His impressionist paintings were my favourite.

      There is another large room, the Hall of Illustrious, which has amazing paintings on the ceiling. The paintings are very dramatic and over the top but still beautifully done.      Read more

      Toulouse - Night One

      Made it into Toulouse and at our digs for the next two days. A nice little unit inside this family home, very private and the family is great.

      Showered and refreshed we hit the street and found the subway pretty quickly and straight to the La Garonne River. It was a hot and pretty humid day but plenty to see and get oriented with. The Pont Neuf (new bridge) construction started in 1544 and completed in 1632. Its construction was made particularly long and difficult by the violent floods of the Garonne.

      Basilica of Our Lady of the Daurade was quite modest on the outside compared to others in the country but inside is another story. The church was in use by the Visigoths, who adhered to Arian Christianity, before coming into Catholic hands following the Battle of Vouillé in 507. It became a Benedictine monastery during the 9th century.

      I’m not religious but could easily sit and have a serious moment of peace and reflection. Hard to describe as you walk in how it changes your centre a little.

      By this time the street and side alleys were bustling and restaurants and bars all full. We found another little classic sidewalk bistro 'La Côte de Bœuf' and enjoyed a classic dish of the area, cassoulet and parillade - saucisse de Toulouse (Sausage of Toulouse) - Entrecôte (demi) Race Aubrac (Aubrac beef breed) & Magret de canard (Duck breast).

      Needed to walk that one off. Hit the subway again and home time for a sleep and sleep in after a big day.      Read more

      Capitole de Toulouse

      After a nice lunch, we did a self-guided walking tour around Toulouse with a GPS audio guide. It was very good as you could stop and start it if you saw something else not in the guide.

      We started at the Capitole de Toulouse. The Capitole is a monument of the French city of Toulouse, which now houses the town hall and the Capitole theatre. Its construction was decided by the Capitols in 1190 in order to establish the seat of municipal power. It has been the emblem of the city and the location of municipal power for more than eight centuries.

      This will be its own footprint because the walls and ceilings are adorned with so much beautiful art.      Read more

      Great day in Toulouse. Went out for English breakfast and then swtched air b&b.
      Quiet afternoon in the air conditioning before walking to the fan zone. Met up with 4 other kiwis and 40000 French.
      Amazing atmosphere and a fun crowd to be part of.

      Stop 4 - Toulouse

      Stop 4 - Toulouse

      Nach einer entspannten Zugfahrt und guten Ankunft in Toulouse sind wir direkt zu Alex Wohnung gelaufen.
      Da wir bisher an jedem Ort der Reise Leute kannten, konnten wir teilweise bei diesen unterkommen. So auch bei Alex und seinem Mitbewohner. Wir sind super dankbar für diese Möglichkeiten, weil es natürlich total cool ist so viel Zeit mit den Leuten zu verbringen, aber natürlich auch Geld zu sparen.
      Es ist keine Selbstverständlichkeit uns das zu ermöglichen.
      Michelle freute sich mega Alex wiederzusehen, den sie auf dem Jakobsweg kennengelernt hat. Auch Fee hat sich sehr gefreut ihn kennenzulernen. Alex spielte an dem Tag unseren Touri Guide durch Toulouse und zeigte uns die eher „uncommon & local places“ der Stadt.
      Wir stiegen auf ein Parkhaus und genossen die schöne Aussicht. Danach holten wir uns ein sehr leckeres Haloumi Sandwich und setzen uns damit ans Wasser. Da lernten wir dann auch Alex Mitbewohner kennen. Wir unterhielten uns lange und liefen dann gemeinsam zu einer Jazzbar, wo wir den Abend ausklingen ließen.
      Am nächsten Tag arbeitete Alex erstmal und wir machten die Stadt unsicher. Wir hatten wieder einmal eine Menge Spaß daran durch die Straßen zu schlendern, Witze zu machen und Ramen zu essen 😅
      Das unglaubliche an der Reise ist, dass wir voneinander dachten, dass wir uns sehr gut kennen, doch diese Zeit hat das alles noch mal auf ein ganz anderes Level gebracht. Wir lachen uns schlapp über alles mögliche und keine 2 Sekunden später können wir gemeinsam über das Leben philosophieren, weinen und dann auch ganz schnell wieder lachen.
      Wir sind beide unglaublich dankbar für diese Erfahrung und die Freundschaft 💞
      Am Nachmittag setzten wir uns in einen Park und ließen den Tag mit einer Flasche Sekt ausklingen, ehe wir Alex in einem Restaurant trafen (mega leckeres Essen, absolute Empfehlung) und eine schöne gemeinsame Zeit verbrachten. Als Dankeschön, dass wir bei ihm
      unterkommen konnten, hat er eine Sonnenblume und einen Honig bekommen. Darüber hat er sich auch wirklich sehr gefreut.
      Abends gingen wir auf ein Festival, wo eine französische Band auftrat. Es war wirklich super super cool!!
      Danach fielen wir wirklich komplett fertig ins Bett. Der nächste Tag startete super langsam, trotzdem fuhren wir einmal aus der Stadt raus und genossen die frische Luft und den Wind 🌬️
      Am letzten Abend kochten wir für Alex, seinen Mitbewohner und zwei Freunde. Es gab eine Couscous Bowl von uns (die sehr gut ankam 🤞🏼) und Gesang auf Catalan für uns.
      Es war ein schöner Abschluss unserer Tage in Toulouse.
      Es war traurig heute morgen zu gehen! 😌
      Wir würden jederzeit wieder nach Toulouse fahren. Der Vibe in der Stadt ist wirklich super angenehm und es wohnen viel mehr junge Leute dort, als wir erwartet haben ☺️
      Es ist für jeden eine Reise wert 🥰
