Pluies diluviennes sur Cologne ce matin...
Impossible de poursuivre notre visite...

Sommes dans le train pour les Pays-Bas : MAASTRICHT via Aachen (Aix-La-Chapelle).

Masque toujours obligatoire tant que nous sommes en Allemagne.

Arrivés à 14h à l'auberge de jeunesse "The Green Elephant and Spa"

Très beau temps... contrairement à Cologne....
... J'ai parlé trop vite : orages très violents et grosses pluies vers 16h.
Ça coincide avec l'atmosphère de cet après-midi ⛈️⛈️⛈️⚡️⚡️⚡️🌀🌀🌀☔️☔️☔️☄️☄️☄️🔥🔥🔥🌩🌩🌩😤😤👊👊🤺🤺🤼🤼🤼‍♂️🤼‍♂️🤼‍♀️🤼‍♀️💨💨💣💣💣💥💥💥

... J'ai dû lavé des sous-vêtements, les sacs et la valise ont dû être réorganisés.
Replier le linge sale, comme si il était propre, est une idée qui permet de gagner de la place MAIS NE PAS le mettre dans un sac poubelle bien fermé, avant de le ranger dans le sac à dos, JAMAIS !! ☹️ ☹️ 🤬🤬🤬... ça s'est mal passé... le linge sale, même plié, pue 🤮🤮🤮🤢🤢🤢😷😷😷... "merci" Quentin d'avoir insisté avec cette idée... 🤬 mais pas d'accord... 😡😡😡💩💩💩🤐🤐🤐☠️☠️☠️☠️

Enervée, énervée,... Crevée, crevée...
Bon je me tais... c'est l'hôtel du cul tourné...

SANS TRANSITION

Logement original : pas de dortoirs classiques, mais, plusieurs mini-chalets à tous les étages de l'auberge, avec, soit, lits doubles (plus cher), soit, lits superposés et c'est ce que j'ai choisi.
Très belle auberge de jeunesse moderne avec cuisine collective, restaurant, jardin, cour...et super déco...j'aime beaucoup...
... concernant les cabines ou chalets : mignon et petit... très petit... très cher... pour une fois, oui, je le dis... alors oui le spa est inclus dedans mais bon, ce n'est pas un 4* ... c'est un Youth Hostel (auberge de jeunesse)
Et il ne faut pas souffrir de claustrophobie...
On vous le présente comme "the sweet little dream house","la petite maison des rêves" ... 😅😅😅 franchement, là, je me suis fracassé le crâne 💀 💀 au lit de Quentin (la bordure, tant qu'à faire)... j'ai vu 36 chandelles et des petits oiseaux... 🐥🐥🐥🐥💫💫💫💫🧨🧨
On s'est engueulé, ... la maison des rêves.. MDR... la petite maison dans la prairie où dans la niaiserie, tant qu'on y est..

Je râle mais c'est beau... cool... tranquille... à condition de l'être...
Là, on ne l'est pas...
La canicule nous a tapés sur le système, la fatigue se fait sentir, des désaccords sur des broutilles... bah oui, ce n'est ni la 1ère ni la dernière fois... ça passera... au Spa.. hein, Môsieur, qui veut laisser son linge puant, tel quel, dans le sac à dos ... beurkkk... je me tais... 🤐🤐🤐

L'être humain est et sera toujours un éternel insatisfait... qui en veut toujours plus... et puis le français râle, c'est bien connu... et puis, dans la famille, il y a une part de perfectionnisme... moi je dis zut à ce perfectionnisme qui peut nous pourrir la vie... et nous rendre malade...

The point Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands meet...
It took us 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete a maze designed for children to complete in approximately 30-45 minutes.
I realised it was either letting Ringo choose the route, or the man we saw toward the end with a hedge trimmer who obviously must have been changing the route, that delayed us so much. There is NO other explanation! 🤔🤣Read more

Luxembourg to Aachen
Major dramas with trains. Staff very helpful at station. We got an official paper re : train strike Belgium so we were able to travel via Germany o Aachen. We haven't had to buy another ticket so far. Nawawext stop was Kolbenz Hbf butt rain was delayed and we missed the connecting train for Cologne. Another official paper & 1 hour later we are back on a train IC one., first stop Koln (Cologne). Stephen called Deborah& explained. Hopefully next connection will occur smoothly. What we have seen through the train Windows is mostly lovely green countryside, lots of terraced vineyards on the hillsides. Oh yes we saw a group of deer in a field - cream with tan markings. The rivers are almost overflowing their banks from all the recent rains. Very grey cloudy skies ,now passing river barges on churning water.After a quick rail chane at Cologne , 2 min to spare we left for Aachen. Deborah& Emelian were there to meet us!She took us to our apartment , we dumped our gear and we drove to park .We then walked around the town with Deborah as guide.We then had drinks at a cafe & stopped at their place to get the cake. She drove us to meet her parents in The Netherlands for afternoon tea, which was lovely. Renee had stayed here in high school on exchange when she was 16. It was pouring with rain when we left for Deborah's apartment and she made a delicious asparagus soup and a tart followed by yummy strawberries in mars alone, cream with vanilla bean. We had a lovely time meeting Andie& we walked back to the apartment at 10:40.Lovely apartment , a shame we didn't get to use its facilities- kitchenette. Deborah and Emelian met us at 9:30 & we drove to a nice cafe for brunch- I wasn't so impressed with my choice and my soft boiled egg was hard. S had smoked salmon. Afterwards we went back to the car which was at Emelian's dad's parents house. We left E there and Deborah walked us back into Aachen. We went to see the memorabilia in the treasury- gold religious articles and vessels, Royal and papist clothing, some paintings. It is all gelcap within a steel door vault. We then went inside the Aachen Cathedral which commissioned by Charlamagne in the 8 C . It was added onto afterwards as well but it was a moorish structure and 8sided. Very colourful with its tiled ceilings and marbled pillars and patterned floors.We went for a coffee and cake- I had a gooseberry tart with almond in meringue on top and a pastry base- ice cream. Not too sweet! Stephen had a chocolate dessert. We walked back to Deborah's home & put our washing in her dryer. Not long after she neede to go and pick up E. Andie has come home.Read more

Day 3: Hedge maze in Vaals

Three countries meet at a single point (near Vaals): Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
Russell and I posed at the marker straddling the three countries.

There is also a really large hedge maze there, which was really frustrating since neither Russell nor I could make it out in the time allotted.

We also got to play with a crossbow and a blowdart. Let's just say I am very dangerous with a crossbow - not because of my accuracy, but rather because of the lack of it.Read more

De eerste beklimming

Het is nog een beetje regenachtig, maar gelukkig regent het niet hard. Ik loop al vrij snel door de bossen waardoor je niet in de gaten hebt dat je door bewoond gebied loopt. Dan begint de beklimming van de Wilhelminaberg, een kunstmatige steenstortberg. Daarbij zitten wat pittige stukken tussen, vooral ook omdat het nog behoorlijk modderig is. Even een stukje door Heerlen en dan duik je de Anstelvallei in. Een prachtig stukje natuur waar je regelmatig langs de Anstelerbeek loopt. In het begin is het nog wat parkachtig, maar meer richting Duitsland heb je een prachtig pad dat kronkelend langs het beekje loopt. Ongemerkt loop je Duitsland binnen langs een mooie kasteelhoeve.

Het landschap wordt wat opener en over landweggetjes loop je door akkers en weidevelden. Je kunt mooi ver weg kijken. Ook zie je in een weiland drakentanden liggen, onderdeel van de Westwall, een verdedigingslinie van Duitsland. Een stukje bij de A76 is wat minder mooi. Ik volg de route verder langs een oud spoorlijntje en op een grote rotsblok ga ik even uitrusten en wat brood eten.Read more
