Strasbourg

Drove to Strasbourg today ... about 70km .... just a little hop .

Next time I would drive the upper Landstrasse through all the little wine villages and may stay at a vineyard.

Arrived at the city campground I booked (Lesley needed her comforts)..... only to be told that I reserved it for tommorow 🤣🤣

They were full for today and offered me to stay at their carpark with no services ... for 19 Euro. You can guess my response to them.

Back in the van and drove 8km to the German side of the Rhine to a stellplatz for 12 Euro and also close to the centre.
Went with our bikes to the rather lively centre of old Strasbourg to have .... you have guessed it .... a Flammenkuchen and a bottle of Rose. Yummyumm.🤗

Went past a great cheese place and decided to have a look. Some tasting later we decided to buy a small piece of Comte .... it was lovely .... but also 26euro😲 ..... so no more artisan shops!!!

We will explore Strasbourg tomorrow in more detail as we now have 2 more unexpected days here 🤣🤣Read more

Erste Übernachtung

Erstaunlich unbürokratisch und schnell haben wir uns geeinigt in der etwas wärmeren Rheinebene zu übernachten. Unser kühlwasserbetriebener Kochreaktor lieferte perfekte warme Linsen mit Saiten ab. Essen auf Rädern ist man im Stehen, die Bierbankgarnitur liegt offen in einer Dachbox und war vom Regen vollgesaugt, dazu brachial schwer.
Die Dusche funktioniert noch nicht, was zu einem zusätzlichen Zeitgewinn führte, wir sollten um 14:00 in Schengen sein.
Technisch gesehen hätte eine Probewoche gut getan...Read more

8,30 Frühstück, 10.30 Abfahrt, Sonnenschein. 15.15 Ankunft im hotel, der Oberhammer! Schloss angeschaut und um Park spazieren gegangen,
Dann in herrliche Sauna. Um 8.00 ins hoteleigene Restaurant, sehr gut gegessen, Lamm und Zwiebelrostbraten. In der Bar noch auf einen Portwein, große schwarze Schlosskatze war auch da, Leben wie Gott in Frankreich!!!Read more

To be whilst sorting technical issues with Lenster Consultancy. This is actually right next to a motor home stop which looks a bit like a compound. Would happily stay here but now I have connectivity resumed I'll see what's around. I am obviously either in or nearly in France cos of dual signage. It's roasting right now.

Lovely park up just a few minutes from the French border 🤗
Except the crossing currently has a width restriction, oh and the restaurant wasn't open here, and actually, it was grossly overpriced, including €5 for a shower €24 to park, my first bad experience at a Autohof 🤬🤬Read more

Meine Studienreise startet, mit Sack und Pack bin ich und mein Kollege Dominik aus Bischofszell nach Basel gereist. Durch einen technischen Defekt des Schiffes wurde unsere Einschiffung nach Kehl verlegt. Jedoch war die Anreise nach Kehl kein Problem, da die Vorfreude auf die Reise und das Schiff überwiegte. We spent the day once again touring the many sights of Strasbourg. Mum made sure to take a picture of all the bridges and we even took a day trip over to Germany as well.

We finished the day by having ourselves a snack platter and playing cards before heading to bed at a nice 5pm.Read more

A Visit to Strasbourg

Up till now we have been travelling in Germany, today was our first chance to cross the border into France. The region of Alsace-Lorraine is officially now part of France, but still retains a typical German character in its culture and architecture. This is especially true in the large city of Strasbourg.

Many trivia quizzes contain a question about which country Strasbourg lies in. I suspect that many people incorrectly answer that it is in Germany, whereas it is actually situated in France.

Our group found a beautiful restaurant by the river where we stopped for lunch. It would have been hard to find a more idyllic location. Some of the ladies then went off to buy some Alsatian lace, which the region is famous for.Read more
