Bestens ausgeruht starten wir heute in den 3. Tag. Das Wetter ist bewölkt, aber es ist kein Regen in Sicht. Bis Saal an der Donau fahren wir wieder bergauf und bergab durch riesige Felder, welche in allen Varianten von Grün und Gelb unser Auge erfreuen. Die Landschaft ist beeindruckend und menschenleer. Auf der gesamten Strecke treffen wir kaum Leute, vereinzelt überholen uns Autos. Fast gespenstisch. In den kleinen Ortschaften, welche wir durchfahren, gibt es nichts – keine Wirtshäuser, und wenn, dann geschlossen, keine Läden, aber natürlich Gewerbebetriebe.
Aber dann kommen wir an die Donau und an die Altmühl und hier beginnt wieder der Tourismus. Wir kehren in einem Wirtshaus in Kehlheim direkt an der Altmühl zum Mittagessen ein. Über uns die Befreiungshalle auf dem Michelsberg oberhalb von Kehlheim (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Befreiungshalle), mächtig und imposant.
Der Radweg ist gut befahren, aber nicht überlaufen. Man merkt doch die Vorsaison. Wir radeln weiter die Altmühl oder deren Seitenarme entlang nach Riedenburg (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riedenburg). Dort und immer wieder auf dem Weg dorthin thronen mächtige Burgen über dem Tal. Nochmals eine kurze Pause und dann die letzten Kilometer zu unserem heutigen Ziel – Dietfurt an der Altmühl (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dietfurt_an_der_A…).

Upper Deck

Late afternoon out tour leader lectured above the Rhine-Main-Danube canal & discussed the history of building the locks. Tonight we went to the upper deck & viewed the sunset & we reached the highest lock around 9:15pm

Day 16: Ingolstadt, Germany

After a great rest at Natalie’s and Jan’s we had breakfast with Jan before heading out in the heat for Ingolstadt. Natalie had to work early and since Jan had the day off, he rode with us for about thirty miles. It was awesome having Jan as a tour guide. We had a drink at an Abbey that specializes in organic products, and we bought some salami and cheeses to sample. After parting with Jan, Lisa and I pedaled on through the the heat to get to Ingolstadt before 5 pm. We were excited to visit Ingolstadt for the 2nd time, and excited to catch-up with Meike and Herbert are Warmshower hosts from 2019. The evening was spent at a near by lake swimming and having a picnic dinner just before sunset.Read more

Kurzer Stop over bei alten Sportskollegen. Der Nachwuchs strampelt schon fleissig. Mal sehen wann er anfängt zu fahren 😉.
Cooles Nachtlager im Kletter-/Gym Dachboden.
Nach lecker selbstgemachten Käässpätzle, gegenseitiger Busbeschau und Gartenschau haben wir uns nach einer leckeren Kaffeeinfusion auf den Weg gemacht. Ziel Lindau, Morgen besuchen wir kurz die Bodensee Insel um dann das Fürstentum zu entern.Read more

Gisteren hebben we besloten om niet naar Slovenië te gaan maar richting het zuiden. Het weer is er te slecht en instabiel.

Vanmorgen de hele boel ingepakt en doordat er weer een enorme bui aankwam niet meer kunnen ontbijten.

Oh ja, stom stom stom... het is zondag dus de winkels zijn dicht 🥺.
Gelukkig verkochten ze bij de benzinepomp ook verse broodjes.

Nu dus even een ontbijtje en dan in vliegende vaart richting de zon. We zien wel waar we uit gaan komen ☀️Read more

Nearly destroyed during WWII,the remaining medieval city walls stretch some 3 miles & feature original gateways & 80 original watchtowers. Nuremberg is infamous for its role in WWII as the site of Zeppelin Fields Nazi rallies and the war crimes trials at the Palace of Justice. Quiz Update from Mr K!

As we make our way across Germany (and of the 17+ countries I've been to this is one of my favourites!) I should mention that I'm looking forward to seeing my cats (even if I'd also like a dog as well) and going away in the caravan to a campsite when I get home.

I think I may also need an Indian curry soon, as long as my size-11s don't wear out before reaching the restaurant, at least it wouldn't involve swimming more than 100m, although I'd run there if needed, even at my age having been born in the 70s!

Also looking forward to a bacon & sausage sandwich over the summer, eaten using my right hand and with brown sauce, if there's too much sauce I'd need to use my knife and fork (but could leave the spoon), and I could wash it down with a nice cup of coffee.

The karaoke at the back has just broken into "Don't Stop Me Now" which is great, just wondering if they could add in a little 'vocalise' or the theme tune to the Onedin Line too maybe? If music was also their fave subject at school it shouldn't be too hard?!

Must also get back on the golf course asap as I have withdrawal symptoms, I could catch up on the Radio 5 sports news whilst I'm at it, and following a round perhaps a G&T or a real ale, or mint choc chip ice cream?

Have heard that Daniel Craig is going to do one more Bond film which is great, although hope he doesn't follow in another previous Bond's footsteps and start appearing in musicals as I don't see him as a lead in West Side Story, similarly don't see him as a Gryffindor in a Harry Potter movie either; maybe he could branch out into Sci-Fi and do either Star Wars or Star Trek, that would be brilliant!

New Bake-Off should be on soon which will be great; think it has the potential to run for at least as long as I've been working for NMPAT, so 17-20 for sure. Noel Fielding does a pretty good job, although I'd say he's a league down from the "big guns" of comedy like Billy Connolly; I'm sure Chandler from Friends would have a witty one-liner to say about "big guns"...

The morning was spent touring the city of Nürnberg, As we had a shorter day of only about 50 miles today. The temperature is getting much hotter in Germany and it was nearly 95° today. Definitely the highlight of the day was the morning . Although, we did have some nice riding along bike trails, some beautiful castles, and a climb to the ruins of in castle as our day was coming to a close. On our morning tour after visiting the city center and having a coffee while we did some people watching, We visited the Nazi political rally area. It was quite eerie to stand in some of the same places that I had seen Hitler stand in documentaries. We stayed at another Warmshower, With Natalie and Jan. Jan (58) Has been a teacher in Bavaria for over 20 years, and in two weeks he is leaving for Malaysia to teach in a German school for three years, He seems very excited for his adventure! His wife is also a teacher, and will remain in her job in Germany. We had a great vegetarian dinner, followed by a large platter of different cheeses, and we sat around the picnic table in their shaded garden until about midnight chatting.Read more

Efter att stannat på en rastplats inatt 00:30 så var det raka vägen i säng. Vi somnade till ett fasligt regnande.
Frukost inmundigades kl.08:30, en timma senare var det full fart igen.
Som vanligt på Autobahn så är det 100 vägbyggen. Ena stunden kör man i 110 och i nästa kryper man fram i 10.
Vid 16:30 började vi leta ställplats för natten.
Fick vända också köra 15 km åt fel håll för att komma dit. Det är ett Hotell med restaurang som det ligger intill. Men det blir kvällsmackan i bobilen.Read more
