    Bodensee

    September 14, 2019 in Germany ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

Last night I enjoyed sunset on Lake Constance, then took a full moon ferry to Switzerland on the other side.

I have lots of updates about the mountains to get to when I have wifi again, but I wanted to at least share that I did not freeze to death, but have merely been alone without service in the mountains for a few days.

    43 more miles.

    Day 65a. Lake Constance, Germany

    October 8, 2019 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Our bicycle tour around the Bodensee (Lake Constance) has begun. Good weather today, overcast but no rain and no wind.
We rode along the lake from Friedrichshafen to Fischbach to Immenstaad to Hagnau to Meersburg to Uhldingen-Mühlhofen.
Meersburg is beautiful with a very tourist designed Main Street full of fashion shops, cafes and restaurants.
The Bodensee-Radweg cycle path encircles the entire lake in about 260km.

    Day 65b. Lake Constance, Germany

    October 8, 2019 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

We cycled to Pfahlbauten in Unteruhldingen. This Lake Dwelling Museum is located directly on Lake Constance. The archaeological museum, opened in 1922, shows reconstructions of pile dwellings from the Stone and Bronze Ages. The dwellings and artifacts date back to 3500 BC.
The Bronze Age village that existed before Unteruhldingen originally consisted of 80 houses. On an area of 400 m² we saw 27 figures with their prehistoric equipment, giving insights into the areas of living, crafts, cult and religion as well as environment and animals.
We then cycled back to Meersburg to catch the ferry across the lake to Constance. After a short time trying to find a hotel by cycling about we resorted to modern tech and googled nearby hotels. We found the B&B Hotel and booked a night. We had dinner in a near by Chinese restaurant and both had duck and beer. Perfect end to a great day.

    Meersburg am Bodensee

    June 30, 2016 in Germany ⋅ 🌧 20 °C

With the bike along the lake to Meersburg. Nice place. Btw very good bike roads

    Tourist office info:

    Town portrait
The particularly attractive situation of Meersburg, which is built on a steep vineyard right by the lake, has been attracting tourists for centuries. It is said that the Merovingians raised the first fortress whose medieval appearance still marks the image of the town from far.

Meersburg is a member of the “Deutsche Fachwerkstrasse” (German Framework Road), one of the major German tourist routes. The town owes its baroque silhouette to the prince bishops of Constance who built sumptuous castles with the participation of the famous baroque architect Balthasar Neumann.

Around these representative constructions mostly open nowadays to visitors, you will find alleyways, the marvelous squares and panoramic view points of Meersburg. Here you will find pleasant cafes in summer and the terrace of the New Castle as well as the fortress offer the most unimpeded outlook over the lake and the impressive alpine rang, on days with good visibility.

Meersburg does not owe its popularity as a destination for holidays and excursions only to its picturesque situation and historical constructions. The comprehensive cultural programs, the many museums and the large number of leisure activities attract thousands of visitors each year.

    Bodensee

    August 4, 2017 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Iedereen is blij verrast.

    Unteruhlingen

    September 8 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

    9:00 Uhr

They had a turtle running around amongst the visitors there. From here, we moved on to the Affenberg. The monkeys however where the least interesting part. We learned a lot about Storcks there - there is 600 Storcks in Baden Wuerttemberg. 200 of them live at the house next to the Affenberg.Read more

    Meersburg

    September 11 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

    9:30 Uhr
