Naturkunde-Museum

After a few geeky hours at the DB Museum I got my bag from the hotel and travelled to Bamberg (about an hour away) to meet my friend Simon. I used the local trains as they were cheaper (think U and S Bahn) and not much longer than DB. I had to pay for tickets today as based on the rest of the trip I would have had 1 more travel days than I had on my interrail pass - and based on the research I had done today was the cheapest day.

I did make one tiny mistake on the journey after arriving at Fürth Hbf, where I was due to change trains. Being over keen I jumped on the first train I saw to Bamberg which turned out to be an even slower S Bahn stopper service 🤦‍♂️

I arrived in Bamberg mid afternoon, gave Simon a big hug - as I’ve not seen him since last summer - and then we were off to explore Bamberg.

It is such a beautiful little city, split over the Regnitz (a river) and on the side of a hill. We walked round old town, through the rathaus which is a mini island, up to the cathedral at the top of the hill, and had a Seidla Märzen, a Rauchbier (smokey) which is a local classic, and reminded me of a porter.Read more
