    Trekking: Imerovigli

    September 10, 2020 in Greece ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Today is one of the most awaited days of our holiday: we will go on a trekking from Firá to Oía, thus covering on foot half of the perimeter of Santorini's Caldera!
As advised both by Pavlos and our friends who came here in the past, we plan to leave early and Ludo even walks down to the reception to pick up our breakfast before 9am. However, something must have gone wrong between the moment he proudly shows up holding the breakfast tray in his hands and when we actually go out... Because when we finally hit the track the sun is very high and our watch marks Midday! 🙈

Aware of the fact that we will be facing a three-hour walk under the Greek sun during the hottest hours, we enthusiastically start walking uphill until we reach the town of Imerovigli, perched on the highest point of the Caldera and offering an amazing view of the whole island of Santorini as well as of Thirasia and the Nea Kameni volcano. The most striking element is once again the deep blue colour of the sea... I'll never get used to this! 😍

Ten minutes after starting the trekking, we already seek shelter from the sun in a cute (and cool) church under the pretext of cultural interest. And now we are energised for the rest of the walk. OK, let´s say for the next ten minutes... 🥵🤦‍♀️

    September 6, 2020 in Greece ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

After our panoramic brunch it's time to go back to work (for Ludo), but at least today he is done in just over a couple of hours. Since we still have the whole afternoon, we decide to start exploring the island, starting with two villages - Imerovigli and Pyrgos - and then trying out for the first time a black-sand beach.

Imerovigli is a white village perched on the highest promontory of Santorini, just 5 minutes away from the capital. Thanks to its position, it offers a stunning view both of Firá and Oía (the north cape of the island). This little town is a true gem: leaving aside the absolutely stunning views it offers, it is completely made of traditional white buildings with white arches and blue domes. And, to keep it even more authentic, there is absolutely nothing resembling a shop...

Since Ludo forgot both his bathing suit and his shorts in Munich, we decide to stop for a shopping break in Firá before heading South. And, of course, there is also time for a couple of photos on the way! 📸

    July 12, 2017 in Greece ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

    Finally in Santorini

    October 6, 2018 in Greece ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

We left Venice in the morning amidst a bit of a rain although I managed to get some last minute souvenirs and photos. From Venice we caught a train to Mestre for 1.30 euros and from there a taxi to the airport. We had a nice flight to Santorini with connection in Vienna. Our plane from Marco Polo airport was delayed so at the end we only had time in Vienna for a coffee and back on the plane.

We finally arrived in Santorini at 8:45 pm and our pre-booked taxi took us our hotel "Ilioperato" in Imerovigli. There are stunning views of the "caldera" but being this late it is hard to say...

    From Thira to Imerovigli

    October 7, 2018 in Greece ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

We woke up with a beautiful view of the sunrise , our breakfast served in our private balcony. We rested in the morning and in the afternoon visited Thira or Fira as it is mostly known and then walk back to Imerovigli... Fira is by far the biggest town filled with souvenir shops, restaurants and crazy drivers. We had lunch here and then started our walk back. We went up gradually with great views of "the caldera" we stopped for photos at the famous "three bells of Fira". The whole walk uphill was extremely exhausting...

Later in the evening we enjoyed the magic colours of the sunset and then had dinner at our balcony.
