      Saint Georgios Oia Holy Orthodox Church

      Die Kirche des Heiligen Georg in Perivolas ist eine der bekanntesten Kirchen in Oia. Sie wurde zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts erbaut. 1956 wurde die Kirche durch ein Erdbeben fast vollständig zerstört. In den Jahren 1966 bis 1967 wurde sie dank der Bemühungen von Loukas Nomikos, einem Nachkommen der Familie, die die ursprüngliche Kirche erbaut hatte, wiederaufgebaut. Das Denkmal mit seiner Büste befindet sich heute auf dem Kirchhof.Read more

      Oia ist ein Küstendorf an der nordwestlichen Spitze der griechischen Ägäisinsel.       Zweiter Segeltag von Ios nach Santorin

      Der Wecker schellt in aller Frühe, denn wir wollen den Sonnenaufgang auf offener See genießen und zeitig auf Santorin ankommen. Wir kommen bei schönem Wind gut voran, doch leider rufen einige Crewmitglieder"Jörg", den Schutzpatron der Seekranken an.
      Der Anblick der Vulkaninsel Santorin und die Einfahrt in die Kaldera sind spektakulär! Die weißen Häuser sehen aus, als ob sie an die steile Felsküste geklebt wären. Wir haben Glück, der erste der großen schwimmenden Festmacherpontons ist frei. Jens springt auf die tanzende eiserne Insel und macht eine ca. 50 Meter lange Leine fest. Anschließend spannen wir die Leine, nachdem wir uns mit Achterleinen an der Pier vor einer Tauchbasis festmachen.
      Agelos arrangiert über einen Freund ein günstiges Taxi, das uns in den Hauptort bringt. Dank Corona liegt kein Kreuzfahrtschiff vor der Insel und die Restaurants und Bars sind fast leer.
      Eigentlich wollten wir zum Abschluss noch den Sonnenuntergang von Oia aus sehen. Unser witziger Taxifahrer veranstaltet zwar ein kleines Rennen und rast waghalsig durch die engen Kurven, doch bei unserer Ankunft sehen wir gerade noch, wie der letzte Zipfel der Sonne hinter dem Horizont versinkt.       12km Wanderung auf der Caldera

      Eine tolle Wanderroute gibt's von Fira nach Oia auf der Caldera. Ausgeschrieben als ca 3 h (10 km), aber man sollte viel mehr Zeit einplanen, da es sehr viele Höhenmeter und aufregende Ausblicke gibt. Für Leute mit Höhenangst teilweise sehr anspruchsvoll, aber machbar. :)

      Oia, Santorini

      Another easy morning with a very delicious breakfast on our terrace. This is such a beautiful place to wake up to and we are loving the ease of staying here. We had a very relaxing morning lazing in the spa and just chilling out.

      We decided to go to “our local”, the Golden Sunset Cafe for lunch and Brad once again ordered his favourite, grilled squid, and I tried the local tomato balls which were delicious. Brad has been enjoying the local beer, Mythos, and the local white wine has been very easy to drink. Initially we did think €5 per glass was expensive but it is a very big glass and they fill it to the top. Great value.

      After lunch we decided to catch the bus to Oia, the other well known town of Santorini. The bus ride was interesting as there appear to be no limit to the number of people you can fit on a bus. We were crammed in and actually stood in the back stairwell for most of the journey.

      It was very interesting seeing the contrast between the “tourist” towns and the local areas of Santorini. It is very dry and arid looking here and we did wonder how the locals survive as there is very little farming. The other thing we were unaware of when booking was that the majority of the towns close down once the tourist season is over and I do wonder how many of the locals actually stay on the island.

      Oia is a very pretty town and different to Fira in that there is more colour in the buildings and a slightly different style. I loved wandering through the shops as they offered different things to what Fira offered. We walked into an art gallery and walked out with a lovely canvas picture of one of the many interesting doors in Oia. We love taking home a piece of art to put on the walls as it is a constant reminder of our wonderful adventures.

      We spent a very relaxing afternoon strolling the laneways, patting the cats, and taking some great photos of the vista. Viewing the sunset from Oia is meant to be the best vantage point to see the sun setting on Santorini but we decided we didn’t want to hang around as the town was filling up with more tourists and we were very happy with the view from our terrace in Firastefani.

      We caught the bus home, not as squashed this time, and spent the rest of the day enjoying our down time on our terrace. Another excellent day in Santorini.      Read more

      Der letzte Sonnenaufgang

      Wir haben jetzt diverse Sonnenuntergänge gesehen, jedoch den Aufgang "nur beim Frühstück" bemerkt. Zusätzlich wollten wir unsere Unterkunft noch bei Tag von der Seite des Castell's fotografieren ... also geht es noch früher als sonst los, Wecker 06:10, 20 Minuten später sind wir am Castell und sehen einen unspektakulären, aber sehr netten und ruhigen Sonnenaufgang. Neben uns sind noch einige (überwiegend chinesische) Frühaufsteher am Castell, zusätzlich mehrere Fotografen, eine Braut, zwei Brautjungfern und "schöne Töchter", die bei Wind und aufgehender Sonne auf den Mauerresten abgelichtet werden ... wir geniessen die Stimmung und das gute Licht vor dem Frühstück.Read more

      Oia - Whiter and Bluer than you imagine

      We took the sea ferry to Oia and we were once again afford spectacular views of the high cliffs of the island. Upon arrival we tackled the 300 stairs to reach the town centre. While less stairs than in Fira, they were at least twice as steep. Legs burning we made it to the top, and will probably now have buns of steel after climbing 1000 stairs in 2 days.

      This town, like Fira is built into the cliff side and is roughly about 100m above see level. The town itself filled with winding streets,secret walkways, cave like houses and beautiful churches with white washed walls and blue domes.

      We explored these hidden paths ways, drooled over how amazing these churches were and then found a bar, Flora Cafe with a view of not only the volcano but also the nearby blue domed churches. We enjoyed some delicious Herb Mules. Mesmerised we sat and watched the sunset over the spires of the church in the town square. Simply amazing.      Read more

      Oía

      Nous nous levons vers 11h et filons à Kamari (pour que Jm s'achète des statuettes qui ne survivront pas au trajet par la poste), et nous mangeons un petit repas dans un restaurant le long de la plage dans un cadre agréable.
      Nous filons ensuite en direction de Pyrgos, petit village typique monté sur une colline au centre de Santorin. Nous gravissons les petites ruelles blanches où réside un calme implacable, jusqu'à arriver au sommet où nous avons une très belle vue sur tout l'archipel.
      Nous rejoignons ensuite le quad pour partir à Oia. Le village Oia est situé en hauteur, les routes montagneuses ne donnent pas vraiment confiance en quad, mais nous arrivons en vie là bas. La vue est incroyable, le village est mignon comme tout, avec ses petites chapelles aux toits bleus. Comme à Thira il n'y a pratiquement que des hôtels, restaurants et bars assez luxueux, reliés par des petits chemins et escaliers où nous n'avons pas toujours le droit d'aller, avec des piscines un peu partout.
      Nous nous baladons à travers les ruelles (celles où nous avons le droit de poser nos pieds de prolétaires), où l'on trouve essentiellement des boutiques et des restaurants, puis nous nous arrêtons manger une glace pour profiter de la vue, les restaurants et bars étant hors de prix. Nous nous redirigons ensuite vers le nord pour assister au coucher de soleil depuis la pointe de l'île. Nous nous arrêtons dans un petit bar face au soleil mais nous crâmons et c'est encore très cher, nous décidons donc de récupérer le quad et d'aller à la pointe de l'île, où il n'y a plus de village, juste de la végétation, et du haut de la falaise nous admirons le coucher de soleil. Nous faisons à nouveau un petit tour à Oia de nuit pour jeter un oeil au village illuminé, puis retour en quad de nuit, pas tellement sereins.
      Nous dégustons un bon gros Domac, 2 fois moins cher qu'en France, et dodo.      Read more
