      Bye Paros - Hello Mykonos

      June 30, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

      Island days on Paros

      July 8, 2023 in Greece ⋅ 🌙 25 °C

A relatively quite couple of days lately, but still packed full of fun.

After the cooking on Friday we relaxed with a game night in the hotel and then spent most of the next day doing not a lot really. Poor ol’ KJ has been a bit sick so there was a couple of doctors trips chucked in but that’s about it.

That was until we went out that night for dinner and decided to head over to the celebration for the local church’s naming day.
The party was really cool - it looked like most of the local families had turned up ready to party - young and old - well onto the early hours of the next morning.
We paid our €10 pp entry and enjoyed the ouzo shot, free tray of meze, and home made (all included!) wine as we watched the seemingly never ending whirl of people spinning around in an ever growing line to the traditional Greek band.
One guy, who had to be in his 80’s at least, out danced everyone in the floor and I don’t think we saw him take a break the entire time!!
We called it a night at about 12:30am but the locals were at it full swing with no signs of stopping (even the food was still being cooked).

The next night we explored the port area of Naoussa a bit more as we hunted for sunset cocktails…still a favourite pastime of ours 🍸🍹🥃
We got some beautiful views and pics in the old sea fort as the sun came down before heading off for another yummy dinner! Hopefully we’ll still remember how to cook when we get home 😝

    • Day 13

      Parikia

      November 1, 2018 in Greece ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

We went to the capital and largest city in Paros, Parikia. City may be a bit of a stretch, though, more like a large town. We walked around the water front, admiring some large sailboats and catamarans and then went up the street to the Church With a Hundred Doors. It is a complex of chapels and a large church. The most impressive part was a chapel built in the 4th century with a Baptistery, a stone immersion tub in the shape of a cross. There was a Byzantine museum as well, with works of art from the 15th century onward. The large church had a women's gallery where you could look down into the main worshipping area. Like other Greek Orthodox churches we have peeked into ( they are usually locked), it had a huge brass chandelier, about 10 feet across, with candles on several levels.
Just down the street was the Archeological Museum, with statues and artifacts found all over the island.
We also visited the remains of a Venetian Fort. The Venetians ruled here from the 1300's to the 1500's. All the towns here have narrow alleys to walk through the old town, and Parikia was no different. Some shops were open, but because by this time it was after lunch, most were closed for siesta which generally goes from 1:00 til 5:30. It is also the end of the season, so some are closed until next spring. Parikia is on the opposite side of the island from Drios where we are, so we went there in one direction and returned in the other, completing a circumnavigation of the island.

🤭🍷Read more

      Car trip around Paros

      July 19, 2017 in Greece ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

We hired a mini bus today to explore the island. Grace had organised for us to meet up with Ellie McDonald, Georgie and Wendy Dodd in the mountain village Lefke They were running super late so we had coffee and cake outside a big old church, before they arrived for a quick chat. We drove past a number of beaches and had lunch at the seaside town Aliki. Swordfish, cheese donuts and squid were the highlights. We stopped at a protected beach for a swim as the day was super windy. We stopped at a beach bar where i had a pina colada and the others had a swim. We drove to the Port town Parkia to see the sunset. We noticed Georgie, Wendy and Ellie walking past so they joined us for drinks and St Mary's and Jamieson reminiscing! It was after 11:30pm by the time we ate gyros for dinner!Read more

"My hope, inspired by this painting, is that our grandchildren will be able to live and grow in peace."

      All Hopes:
I hope that me life will be colourful and light.

      a sign and question's....!!??

      Never give up hope!

I see the bread, the water and the script, and in that my hope is for the hunger of the body to become a thing of the past. The hunger of the spirit will help us to achieve that.

My hope, inspired by this painting, is that our grandchildren will be able to live and grow in peace.

Every day when I get up, I feel the energy of hope, that makes me getting up. The hope for a peaceful, lovely, interesting day with a lot of good news.

Hopes for the plants and universe to always be there for us.

I hope for love peace & happiness. There are many sections in life to be fulfilled.

I am hoping to continue to develop as an artist. This sharing helps to remind me what art is for. I want to be a part of that!

I put my hope in picture # 049.

It reminds me of flowers and a message of hope for growth in our lives.

How beautiful! I hope this time I will be the winner... My hope is to be finally completely absorbed in love - with the ONE I love...

“You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us. And the world will live as one.” John Lennon. Maybe a project like this helps to realize a little bit of this hope.

This painting reminds me of the beautiful islands of Greece. I hope to visit it again sometime, soon!

First impression was, that I recognize the word “OMA". My sons have wonderful wives and my hope is, to be granny."

      • Two hopes: 1. Curves are always going up!2. Hope I get THIS painting, it's marvelous, and could be the first to Luxembourg!!
      • My hope is seen in the rhythm of this painting, it's hills and valleys, mountains and river. It's a very positive hope.
      • Beach, sun and fun
      • I hope that there always will be a light on my way!
      • I will have the strength to climb this mountain.
      • I hope that every summer from now on will be as blissful as this one is! So full of love and happiness.
      • I hope someday to be free of fibromyalgia so that I can see the world full of color, vibrant, like this painting without the fog that comes with this illness.
      • The beautiful greek mountain
      • This painting reminds me of beach, sun and water and I hope my family and me will have a beautiful summer time with as few stress as possible.

      • This is my freedom and my joy in the river of life!
      • Hello. My name is Hanik, I just got back from a wonderful workshop with you in Paros. I hope on a very personally level to have that same productive and exhilarating energy continuing. So that I will be able to make a difference by using colors. I wish …
