      Incredible Guinea nature

      Guinea🇬🇳

      February 11, 2022 in Guinea ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Country No. 5😏 If there is a clichéd border crossing, then probably here: According to Maps, a large road that turns out to be a small track through the forest, which is sometimes as wide as the motorcycle. Including bridges made of boards, border crossings with straw huts and crossing a river in a wooden boat😅 I was really a bit afraid for Violetta...

      Auf in die Elfenbeinküste

      February 16, 2022 in Guinea ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Naja, so läufts wohl...

A long section through Guinea is pending. 2 days and nights to get directly to the Ivory Coast. We slept along the road in the tent. What is also remembered for Guinea are the police checks, which are all about making money. An example of the lady in the photo. After my documents were all in order, I should pay for not having gloves. After 15 minutes, my patience was almost exhausted. The last idea I had was to take a picture of her to show it to the boss in the city. She didn't find that so funny at first, but noticed that I don't pay. Then she really wanted a selfi with me... Well, that's how it works...

      Fromo & Cissé

      February 18, 2022 in Guinea ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

The idea of getting to Côte d'Ivoire quickly was good, but unfortunately failed because we were missing a few documents. We were turned away at the border, were officially not allowed to return and had no more money. But as always, a solution has emerged involving the police from Guinea and Ivory Coast. In Ergbenis we were not quite legal in Guinea for three days. David took us in, spent the time with us and helped us get the missing documents. Since my name was too complicated for him, I was from then on only Fromo, quasi my African name. Definitely a very interesting experience, for the details of which there is unfortunately not enough space here😅

      Chimps

      March 5, 2017 in Guinea ⋅ 🌙 26 °C

From my hiking spot I had 40 miles of the rock road again and then I was on tar. My knees, my back, my wrists, my everything was relieved!

On my way out of Fouta Djallon I had one last stay in this scenery with amazing 180+ degree views, as the second photo shows.

Now I had 250 miles planned to the rainforest region of Guinea, with a little nervousness of quite how bad the road would be, especially with my dodgy wheel. Well my prayers were answered, with mile upon mile of beautiful smooth tar that had lots of sweeping corners through the hills. My destination, Nzérékoré, is where Ebola was at its worst and so there is a lot of aid going into infrastructure, just in case it flares up again. I'm on a French vegetarian diet here. I.e. I'm eating everything but red meat. One theory is that monkeys are more prone to Ebola, but that it is transferred to humans by eating undercooked bushmeat...and from all the hunters I see, there is a lot of bushmeat on the menu.

After a recharge day in Nzérékoré, I head off in hope more than expectation to look for Chimps in a small village called Bossou. I'd heard of a Japanese research station where I might be able to see chimps. They're particularly interested in this group as they are the only ones in West Africa that have been known to make tools. After a short 30 minute walk into the rainforest, I'm with a family of 8 wild chimps. They're amazingly disinterested in our presence, apart from the baby who seems to enjoy throwing branches at us. The alpha male, just casually walked past us and started munching away.
