It might surprise you if I say Azerbaijan is an oil-rich country, yes it is. However, the government saw the potential for tourism and put some efforts to popularize it. Baku was not in the travel until 3-4 years ago, now it is getting the spotlight as a cheap and affordable travel destination.

I never knew much about Baku until I came to know about a holiday package provided by https://www.satatravels.com - one of the top travel agencies in the UAE. I contacted them and they made all the arrangments for the travel including Visa.

I boarded my flight from Dubai and reached Baku at 3.00 am. Really loved the airport especially when it is less crowded, the airport was simple and elegant. Went to the hotel and took a short nap and woke up at 8.00 am. Had the breakfast and then set out for the first-day journey.

The bus took a quick round in and around Baku, the highways and some countryside locations. It was a mesmerizing experience. The view was not that green, but a moderate climate along with a light breeze made the experience ecstatic. The roads were of top quality and the streets were clean. When I went to some village areas, the scenario was different. Most of the villagers engage in agricultural activities to earn them a living, they are least bothered about the tourists it seems.

You can find a stark contrast between the main city and centre and its outskirts. Since Azerbaijan is an upcoming tourist destination, they are improving the infrastructure. One peculiar thing about Baku is that you can find tall modern buildings as well as old building reminiscing us of its history.

You can find a mixed culture in Baku of central Asian, Arabic/Middle eastern and European. The society seems to be more moderate in comparison with other neighbouring countries, it was evident from the dress code, food in the local culture. Since Baku is a coastal city, I decided to go to a beach. To my surprise, the beaches were not that tidy, also the water looks not that good. But one can find very cheap accommodation and food along the coastline.

One thing you shouldn't miss in Baku is the Greater Caucasus mountains region. It looks very beautiful with lots of hiking and mountain climbing potential. You can also find mud volcanoes nearby which is a rare sight. If you love F1?NASCAR and/or car racing, then you must the tracks of one of the world’s most prestigious events. A visit to Baku isn’t complete until you’ve tried the various cuisine of local, Turkish, Iranian, European origin, it is a mini food paradize indeed — burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, kebabs, salads, flat bread, hummus, fresh fruits & vegetables, etc. Drinking tea with strawberry jam was a unique feeling.
