      Trådbussroulette

      July 20, 2022 in Hungary ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

      BACK WITH MIA!!!

      September 22, 2022 in Hungary ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Yayyy!!! Do you guys all remember Mia?!?! I met her in Switzerland and now we are back together for Budapest, Vienna, and Prague!!!! Woohoo!!! Had such a great catch over tea time and ready to start adventuring tomorrow 🥰🥰

On the other hand, my train situation from Innsbruck to Budapest was a nightmare. My goodness. My 2 train itinerary turned into a 4 train ordeal with just about every train being delayed but still missing the next!!! Ahhh!!! I miss the Swiss trains (people getting mad at trains being 30 seconds late!). Anyways. Made it to the hostel and am happy to be here :))

      Ruin Bars Budapest

      September 24, 2022 in Hungary ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Tonight we went out to the Ruin Bars in Budapest!! SO COOL! The concept of the ruin bars is that they are neglected pre-war underground buildings that have been turned into these character-filled pubs and bars that are unique and insanely hip! In the ruins, there are plants, graffiti, music, and multiple bars one after the other! Super fun time and a great atmosphere :)Read more

      Thermal pools and views

      April 27, 2023 in Hungary ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Our last day. We’ve seen a lot and walked a fair distance this week and it’s been brill. However, today we’re kicking back a bit, and we spent most of the day at Gellert Baths.

Budapest has lots of baths/ thermal spas and this one was recommended, so off we went. It was indoors (although there is an outdoor pool, but too cold for that at the mo) and was an old style bathing establishment.

It’s architecture and decor was beautifully ornate and the vibe is sedate (no dive bombing or heavy petting!) A place to relax, chat and people watch….. We couldn’t help but notice a number of girlies who were only too happy to show off their boobs (real or not!) in itsy, bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikinis (phones in hands, whilst in the pools!). They snapped away unconsciously, filling up their Insta feeds with smiles and poses!

The thermal pools were glorifying hot, calming and medicinal. I could feel the warmth penetrating my bones and it felt very good.

The main pool was a tad cooler, but allowed Col to swim a few proper laps (although he did get scolded in Hungarian by the life guard, for following the wrong swimming direction convention!)

The final thermal pool was 38 degrees Celsius and like being wrapped up in a warm cozy cocoon. I’m not known for my love of watery pursuits, but this was fab.

We eventually emerged into the sun, right next to a look out point offering a view of the city. It was quite a steep climb, but worth the effort in the warm sun. There are no high rises here, so you get to see the city vista without unwelcome visual interruptions. It was superb and worth the creaky knees!

Last night: dinner out and (if we stay awake), a late tram ride to see the city at night.

      Budapest

      December 20, 2023 in Hungary ⋅ 🌙 4 °C

Budapest is very cold (I'm wearing 7 layers and 2 hoods!) and actually has a seriously cool vibe too. We stumbled across Szimpla Kert. Several stages and bars in a ruin bar with cosy seating areas all over. We added a touch of class to the graffiti with a Wild Flower sticker 🌻 Delicious coffee stout and then we had to have ghoulash for dinner!
Already struggling to arrange the self transfer at DMM on Friday... fingers crossed.

      Budapest

      December 22, 2023 in Hungary ⋅ 🌬 6 °C

We have arrived in Budapest, where we will settle in for a week and celebrate Christmas. I didn't realise that the city was the result of the unification of the cities of Buda and Pest in 1873. Makes sense...

It's a bustling place and not as pristine as Vienna, but I like it. It has a bit of a Soviet feel to it, really interesting

Not to mention the food is most excellent, and so is the beer. And a lot cheaper than Vienna.

It's a fair sized city as well... Clever me booked the accommodation a few hundred metres from the train station. Only to discover our train arrives at a different station that's a couple kilometres away 🙄. I will either be really fit or disabled by the end of the week.

      Ungarische Staatsoper

      March 21 in Hungary ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Read more

      Autumn begins

      September 24, 2017 in Hungary ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Slovakia has been a thoroughly wet experience but at least the wind was on our side and pushed us to more than 100km one day. We were a bit surprised how fast we got to Hungary, but the country greeted us with sunshine on a beautiful section of the Danube. After two great days in Budapest we hit the road again and go South now - pictures of the 'Pearl of the Danube' will follow.Read more

Dalla stazione all'hotel. La città alta.

      February 22, 2020 in Hungary ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Read more
