    Isafjordur

    June 21, 2019 in Iceland ⋅ ⛅ 4 °C

Uhr .Read more

    Day 7, Isafjordur

    September 7, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Well hello everyone, today's dock was in Isafjordur. No actual dock so we just pulled up out to sea and tendered in. We had a leisurely breakfast in the restaurant as to let everyone off as we didn't have any trips planned. Got chatting to a nice couple from New York and they gave us a list of different but interesting places to see when we get there next week. We disembarked the ship and had a wander around the town. It was a very small town and was quite pretty but not really a great deal to do. The weather wasn't too bad today, we had quite a bit of sunshine and we hit a high of 7 degrees in the height of the sun. However, wait for it, we are expected to reach 13 degrees in Reykjavik tomorrow, woohoo, could be down to just 2 jumpers tomorrow and only a couple of pairs of socks 😂😂. We got back on the ship just after 1 and had some lunch whilst overlooking the Iceland Sea in the sun. We decided to hit the hot tubs on the open deck this afternoon and we're chatting to a lovely lady from Colorado. She was telling us all about the bears and the mountain lions they see where they live. We were delayed leaving tonight due to a fuel problem, 30 minute delay but won't impact our dock tomorrow. We spent the evening out on deck watching "The Mummy" on the movies under the stars. Got the blanket count down to 3, was toasty, but by god it was Baltic when I moved at the end. It's currently 9.30pm, the skies are very clear and the sun is going down in the starboard side of the ship and the moon is rising on the port side. As it's so clear, we are just going for tea and cake at the back of the ship and then going to look for the Northern Lights later. Reykjavik tomorrow, early dock. See you all there 👍Read more

    Skaftafell National Park

    February 12, 2018 in Iceland ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

We were scheduled to visit Skaftafell yesterday but had ended up at the ice cave and so decided we'd do it today and not miss out. We arrived at the visitor centre to discover it's no longer free to park which was a bit of a nuisance, though they had completely redone the visitor centre and cafe so that has to be paid for somehow. We immediately organised our gear and headed down the trail for about 1.25 miles to the end/nose/stub, or whatever, of the Skaftafell glacier tongue which nestles below Iceland's highest mountain. As we approached along the footpath we were presented with a stunning view of the glacier with its rich blue colours and a frozen lake containing a scattering of blue icebergs.

As we arrived you can see there were clear skies and sunshine but during our time there it became cloudy and the light changed. This simply resulted in different colours in the ice making it appear even more blue than it was in the sunshine. The temperature dropped tremendously though and we both suffered from extremely cold fingers. It was definitely worth the visit and hopefully we have photographs to prove it. We were able to get quite close to the glacier though perhaps not as close as it felt. We were midgets against its size and to get right up to it meant walking on the frozen lake ... a risk not really worth taking though one person had a go, just like the people at Fjallsarlon. Are we chickens or wise?

    On my way to Krossnesslaug

    September 25, 2018 in Iceland ⋅ ⛅ 5 °C

Krossnesslaug is on of the most remote hot springs on Iceland. The drive was pretty nice with some spectacular views.

Fun fact: the word on the last picture is actually from Sibiria and it took about six years to get stranded at the Icelandig beach 😁Read more

    SVARTIFOSS

    June 28, 2018 in Iceland

Read more
