      Bundi

      December 6, 2023 in India ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

We've spent this afternoon is a small town (150,000 people). It's an agricultural area and very green. We are staying in another fabulous heritage hotel and have just returned from an afternoon wandering the streets. I never want to go to the dentist here! And I think this is the rudest elephant I've ever seen.Read more

      14. Tag - Kleinstadtleben im Bundi

      October 2, 2019 in India ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Come in - your friend Claudia was here before!“).

      Bundi

      March 2, 2023 in India ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Leaving on our bus we set off for Bundi the other blue town. Stopping on the way to learn what chickpea plants look like, and at a roadside place where they were making bricks. This seemed a very simple process, mix mud with sand and cement and shape it in a mould with identification markings in. Let them dry in the sun. Build a huge stack of bricks layered with coke and straw then set this alight, slowly the bricks are baked as it all smoulders away.

Bundi is one of the small lesser visited town famous for it's step Wells. We stopped on our way to view one which was dizzying deep. The steps just kept on going down into the slightly murky water. It was beautifully designed with elephants and snakes, and intricate arches at the bottom.

We were heading to the 16th Century Palace famous for some amazing murals. They were stunning, of elephants fighting and royal processions, the colours still so perfect. The room was dark except when it was opened for viewings.

We walked back through the town to another step well surrounded by the town Market. It was all very busy, we caused great interest as we meandered along the streets, observing life from hand to mouth. It was colourful and fragrant, lots of garlic on the veg markets. We saw a lady selling chicken peas and tasted a fresh chickpea for the first time.
The people are very generous and happy to let us try tastes and give a flower to us as we pass by. Most smile as they see us looking and watch us, the interest goes both ways.

We stayed in another Heritage hotel. Which was ornate with decorative arches in the reception, and carvings. We had a room on the ground floor. Which was comfortable but very basic. I was feeling tired I think as I felt a little disheartened, the bedding was clean but not the smoothest. The pillow well used and maybe I felt a touch homesick.

      Village near Bundi

      October 19, 2019 in India ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Various looks at village life in rural Rajasthan. About 80% of the local economy is said to be agriculture.
The 1st two pics look at the village. 3rd and 4th are pottery making. In one a pit is thrown on the wheel. Then it isvecownd d and shaped into it's final size. Next the pots are painted and fired. I understand that at Diwali, a major festival here in about a week and a half, people purchase new water pits of this type. 5th is drying corn, and 6th is the family garden out back of the pottery workshop and house.Read more

      Bundi

      January 4, 2020 in India ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

The most amazing things of Bundi are their lovely people and their photogenic streets, especially old doors. Bundi is better explained with photos than with words. We had such a good time with Jay and his particular personality ("you know awesome"), with Yog enjoying his art, the competition between cafés for the best chai tea, Mr. Chapati and his weird behaviour, the guys that helped us with our Internet connection in the phone shop or the little girls in the Muslim neighbourhood dancing bollywood for us. We've been invited to a traditional shared meal in a Hindu temple festival. Sitting on the floor first you receive your dish and after you distribute food to everybody. A wonderful experience.

Bundi, we like you so much!

      13. Tag - On the road - again!

      October 1, 2019 in India ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

      Bundi

      January 16, 2019 in India ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

      Arriving in Bundi

      April 10, 2018 in India ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

After another long day on the bus we finally reached Bundi where we slept in large and sort of luxerious tents next to a lake. The atmosphere in the evening was beautiful and peaceful and we were all able to relax over a pint or a cup of tea. After dinner a group of traditional singers and dancers performed, some of us even joined them in their dance.Read more

      Bundi - During the day

      April 11, 2018 in India ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

We only did went on a one-hour walk through Bundi, but there was so much to see (hence the three posts): guesthouses, temples, vendors, traidesmen - and women, cows, it seemed to me as quite the hippi town :-)Read more
