Wake early, no shower, walk out to hail a tuktuk to Agra Cant - 100INR. Get on train... pollution visibly getting worse as we get closer to New Dehli and need to wear scarf and buff over nose the whole journey - M&Z both have headaches, M constant runny nose, Z blowing out black gunk out of nose. Naughty child behind M and kept shaking m’s seat - mum or dad weren’t doing anything about it so had to remind parents what their child was doing. Later child watching kids show wit that had a song “sugar, sugar, why are you so yummy? Chocolate chocolate, please get in my tummy!” .. get to New Delhi Cant at 10:20am, get on LRT transfer to airport. Cleanest transport we’ve been on in India, looks very new. Can’t check in for our 16:20 flight to Bangkok -grab breakfast. Check in, have lunch then board flight. Arrive Bangkok at 21:40, grab cab & check into apartment guesthouse. Took guesthouse bicycles to get dinner at nearby street vendor. Ka pow moo Krop x2 and Coke .Take long showers, sleep.Read more

Ich war schon so oft in Indian, wann das erste Mal in New Delhi? War wohl 2002. Leider gingen damals alle digitalen Bilder einem Virus zu Opfer.
Das letze mal, 2019, hatte ich denn einen Abstecher nach Agra gemacht. Ganz am Morgen mit dem Taxi hin, Taj Mahal, Red Fort und sonst noch etwas von Agra angesehen und am Abend wieder nach New Delhi. Das waren jeweils 4 Stunden auf der Autobahn, aber die Reise wert!Read more

Arrival at 00:30 - trying to get to the hotel. Lots of roads closed out of safety reasons. Our driver can’t find a way to the hotel and drops us at a tourist center the driver wants to have his money but we don’t have rupia yet so we need to give him 10€ which is still a lot in India. We get a new driver who knows the way to the hotel and we don’t need to pay him. Arrived at 1:00 at the hotel and the staff is asleep behind the counter. We need to wake them up to check in.Read more

Delhi: A Walk to Mantar Jantar

Nach dem Check-in im "SmyleInn" geht's nach etwas Ruhe, ins Getümmel, was um diese Zeit noch nicht sonderlich ausgeprägt ist. Anscheinend ist heute ein Feiertag - Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti (Mahatma Gandhi's Geburtstag).
Mein erstes Ziel ist das "Jantar Mantar", ein astronomisches Observatorium aus dem 18. Jhd, das auf Befehl des Großmoguls Mohammed Shah erbaut wurde. Auf dem Weg dahin, werde ich von drei verschiedenen Indern angesprochen, die mich jeweils ein Stück begleiten und mich zu einem Shop führen wollen. Ich bin dankbar für die Konversation, lehne dann aber bestimmend ab und sie gehen ihrer Wege 😉. Der Weg führt vorbei am "Connaught Place", der wegen des Feiertags fast menschenleer ist. Am Observatorium werden stolze 300 INR fällig, um die verschiedenen "Geräte" zur Bestimmung der Uhrzeit, Sonnenstand usw., zu bewundern. Indische Gäste bezahlen im übrigen 25 INR. Ein wenig spiele ich Fotograph für indische Pärchen und genieße die Ruhe im Schatten. Beim Verlassen der Anlage muss das Ticket wieder abgegeben werden, warum auch immer - also nicht in der Anlage wegwerfen 😉.
Zum Schluss gibt's noch ein Eis am Ausgang - keine Sorge, kein frisches, sondern abgepacktes a la "Magnum". Man will sich ja nicht den Rest des Tages versauen 😅.Read more

Questa mattina quando mi sono svegliata ho finalmente incontrato la compagnia di viaggi ed avventure nel mondo a Delhi, da dove inizia il nostro tour del Rajasthan, fino a Varanasi.
Oggi abbiamo fatto un tour di Delhi e abbiamo visitato la moschea Jama, la tomba di Humayun e il Qtub Minar. Quest’ultimo è un minareto che sorge sulla Delhi originale, oramai distrutta, dove si possono vedere le rovine.
Domani si parte in autobus per il nostro giro del Rajastan.

This morning when I woke up I finally met the world travel and adventure company in Delhi, from where our tour of Rajasthan begins, up to Varanasi.
Today we took a tour of Delhi and visited the Jama Mosque, Humayun's Tomb and the Qtub Minar. The latter is a minaret that stands on the original Delhi, now destroyed, where the ruins can be seen.

This is another area which is a disgrace, it has so much potential as a great tourist attraction but has been forgotten as so many things in India are.

Jantar Mantar dates back to 1724 and translates literally as" instruments formulae". The 13 structures are large architectural astronomy instruments used to make accurate observations for the purpose of predicting solar, lunar and planetary movements.

They really did not have any clear explanations on how the srtuctures worked which is a shame as John likes this sort of stuff.Read more
