    Endlich mal Burger

    April 12 in Indonesia

    A terrific Balinese food day

    February 26 in Indonesia

There is so much interesting food in Bali. Today’s lunch focused on Duck: spring rolls, fried duck and smoked duck. Mid afternoon ice cream: passion fruit sorbet and ginger gelato. Dinner: corn fritters with lime peel, gado gado (fresh vegetables with peanuts), fried local chicken and a delicious fish curry. Lucky I walked 5 miles today.

    Shit, this coffee is delicious

    March 1 in Indonesia

Bali is famous for Luwak coffee, unique to the island. Luwaks (also known as mongoose) eat the ripe red coffee berries. They shit them out whole , they are collected, cleaned and the coffee bean from the berry is then roasted. The coffee has a unique taste - no, not like you think. It’s very good (and very expensive).

    Balinese temples

    March 4 in Indonesia

Bali is a very spiritual place. Religion is very important to the people. They practice a unique form of Hinduism. Each family compound has its own small shrine. Every village has a temple that is the center of community life. Time has stood still here in many ways. One person we met lives in a village with no electricity.

  • Day40

Mt. Batur erupted in 1968 (and again in 2000). There are 2 calderas, which are stunning. Lake Batur is enormous and has hot springs to soak in, overlooking the lake and volcano. With insane traffic in Bali and narrow, winding roads it took about 2 1/2 hours to get there and even longer to get back because of road closures for village ceremonies. But it was definitely worth it!

    Ceremony day in Bali

    March 14 in Indonesia

While Indonesia is primarily Muslim, Bali is Hindu with a very Balinese flavor. There are countless ceremonies throughout the year. Saturday is New Years Day (more about that in an upcoming post) and leading up to it, there are major ceremonies. Today, especially. In each area, hundreds and sometime thousands of people march to the local temple. Traffic which is always horrendous becomes a total gridlock. It was a special privilege to be here to see the procession. The last photo is of an ogo ogo, which I’ll talk about in the Nyepi post.Read more

    Day 2 Vila Lumbung Seminyak

    February 21 in Indonesia

Pretty uneventful day today , Siobhan recommended a 3 part series I had downloaded & ended up watching the whole lot until 1 am last night in bed so I therefore missed breakfast as slept in 😂...no message off my husband today ...had to chase him up ! 😢, spent all day at the pool .... followed by Balinese massage late afternoon ...tans coming along nicely, although I’m worried I’m going to be a silly colour by the end of this trip 😳😂Read more

I’m still here ! Jules nagging me to keep this blog up but there’s only so much you can write about laying on your fat arse all day !
Weather has been tropical, ( as in pissing down on & off ) but lots of sunshine in between .

It’s very quiet here this time, I haven’t found anyone to harass & give a cheery hello & have a yip with .... not spoken to anyone for days 😂
Lots of Australian Bogans here ( that’s an Ozzie Chav if you don’t know )

So in my Christmas stocking off jules I had various travel accessories.....including a travel bath plug ! ...I took the piss as you can imagine for him
Buying such a thing .... however on arrival here I saw I had a lovely outdoor bath ....& guess what was missing ...yep the plug 😂😂😂so I stand corrected ...such a handy thoughtful pressie after all ( as usual with jules )

Ive got cockroaches in my Bathroom & lizards in my room ....so I’m stuffing pillows against the bathroom door so something can’t slither or crawl underneath from the outdoor bathroom 🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍😱

I bought a bottle of vodka in duty free on Sunday & have barely touched it ! ...the only diet mixer available here is Diet Coke & I’m not fussed on that much so have detoxed a bit, probably wise with my imminent arrival to Australia with the beautiful wineries .
On that note I will probably wait until I get to Australia & meet Michelle before I update this again ...as I say there’s nothing going on here ...which maybe why I love it here so much but don’t want to bore you 😂👍

    Abendessen im Pepito Restaurant

    March 16 in Indonesia

Read more
