Streets of Kilkeny. We parked and walked to the Castle. The cafes with outside seating had blankets on the chairs to use. Found some charity shops, no treasures yet. Us at a pub. The umbrellas were an entrance to an outside mall. It made me smile! :)

    Kilkenny Day 2

    December 19, 2016 in Ireland ⋅

Another misty chilly day but the sun is shining. I went to morning mass and set out about town again. Went to St. Mary's cathedral, St. John's church, the Black Abbey, and Smithwicks brewery. Smithwicks has been around for over 306 years and was founded by the Fransiscan monks and is older than Guiness. After dinner I went to watch a local band at the Pumphouse pub and watched a local band.Read more

Wow this place is magnificent. Medieval town number two. I was going to stay for only one night but after trekking around today I only saw half of the town and so I will stay another day. It's been the coldest day on my journey in Ireland so far at a whopping 0 degrees today. I went to Kilkenny castle which is over 800 years old and was lucky enough to enjoy two musical concerts, one which was Gaelic christmas songs and the other was a harpist. I visited Rothe house, and Butler house and enjoyed the many quaint shops. Christmas is definitely in the air here.Read more

Wow ... What an honor !

    May 19, 2018 in Ireland ⋅

I hadn't realized ... When I was in Kilkenny on the 16th... I entered a pub when hearing some music inside ... And ended up being asked to sing with the many musicians and singers who were having a jam ... And I did ... But I hadn't realized I was singing with actual celebrities ... People who tour internationally and have music on Spotify !!! I'm amazed at their simplicity and warmth !
So grateful for this great time spent with you Davey Cashin from the Kilkennys, "longtime Kilkenny legend Adrian “Tailor”Cassin" and partner from Wrong directions and those whose names I don't know!
I might even come back !

Wicklow Mtns & Kilkenny Tue 29 May 2018

    May 29, 2018 in Ireland ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

“Hot” day today (26 degrees). Excellent continental breakfast at the IMI residence Dublin, then drove to Aughrim County Wicklow where we asked for directions to the start of our walk in the local pub and had a beer while we were there. Followed the verbal and internet directions to a spot that was the half way through the circuit walk after receiving verbal directions from a local. Walked up the hill to the summit of Craoghanmoira passing an Irish couple with two dogs on the way down who were considering driving to the coast for a swim. There was a strong wind at the summit and the views were excellent as Craoghanmoira (664 metres) is the highest hill in the area of the southern Wicklow Mountains we were in. We found a sheltered spot and had lunch before returning to the car. Drove to Newpark Hotel in Kilkenny and checked in. Walked to the medieval area of Kilkenny. Photographed St Candice Anglican Cathedral and the oldest structure in Kilkenny a round tower constructed in 1111. Then wandered around talking photos and visited a bar called Hole in the Wall. Dinner at a hotel with live Irish music then walked back to the Newpark Hotel.Read more

    My conclusion

    July 1, 2018 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Kurz und knapp: sehr schöne Landschaften, sehr freundliche und aufgeschlossene Menschen und durchaus sehenswerte Städte. Aber für Langstreckenskaten nicht geeignet. Kaputte Straßen, sehr gefährliche Engstellen und furchtbarer Straßenbelag fast überall. Soviel zu Irland und Nordirland.

Kilenny Brewery on our way to Dublin

    May 23, 2017 in Ireland ⋅

    May 26, 2017 in Ireland ⋅

Read more
