    Road trip: Chianti

    August 6, 2017 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Kraj Chianti se rozprostírá mezi Florencií a Sienou a vypadá úplně jinak než naše předchozí vinařská oblast v okolí vesnice Barolo. Je tu daleko více olivových hájů a lesů. A téměř každý penzion má krásný bazén. Read more

Vyhněte se dálnici. Malebnou krajinou prochází silnice SR-222. 👍

    Explore Chianti- Castello di Verzzanno

    June 28, 2018 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Late start to the day. Spent most of the day in Chianti at a beautiful winery on top of a hill. The winery tour was very informative about Chianti wines. The lunch after the tour was spectacular and very possible the best meal we have eaten so far. On top of the food, the dining room offered amazing views of the vineyard. It was three course preset menu. The Salami platter was good with the pork cheek the best of all the meats. The pure Balsamic vinegar that they served was wonderful. It takes about 10 years to get the best quality. The ones that we buy at most grocery stores are commercially produced and taste very acidic but this one seemed less acidic and quite sweet with no added sugars. The Salami was followed by pasta in marinara sauce followed by pork / wild boar chops. They served us unlimited wine 3 different reds and a couple of white. All that wine made us a bit too happy and we left our backpack with passports at the winery. Luckily 10 minutes into our drive back to Florence we realized our bag was missing and we went back to the winery. We had loved our afternoon and wanted to return in the future but didn’t expect it to be so soon.

We went back to our flat and slept for a few hours. In the evening we had dinner close to our flat. Our most relaxing day of the trip.

    Chianti Wine Tour

    July 5, 2018 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

We took the opportunity today to do a wine tour of the Chianti region tour the Curious appetite gourmet tour company. We started with a quick stop to take in the amazing view over Florence from the “fake David” as it’s commonly known. We then travelled in the countryside where the scenery became picture perfect with rolling hills and tall thin Cypress trees. Our first stop of the day was a beautiful little village called Greve where we had some time to walk around the historic square to explore the shops and have a coffee. We then travelled just outside the main village to a tiny vineyard called Castellinuzza Piucca which only produces 2500 bottles per year where we first had a tour of their cellar and then had a fantastic lunch and wine tasting overlooking the beautiful rolling hills. On our way to the next vineyard we stopped off at a tiny little village called Montefioralle which only has a wine shop, bar and a restaurant. The Main Street in the village can only be accessed by foot and was so peaceful and tourist free apart from us! The next and final stop was at Solatione vineyard where we had a lovely tour from the owner Elisabetta followed by tasting and purchases to ship back home! It was then back to Florence where stopped off at a wine bar for a glass of red to top us up followed by a stroll around Florence and pizza.Read more
