Tirano

From Milan we jumped on a train to Tirano for the next leg of our trip. Tirano is in the lower part of the Alps and the train passes by Lake Como on the way up. Beautiful!

It was a beautiful, albeit cold, day and snow on the mountain peaks made for a beautiful backdrop.

Tirano itself is a relatively small town, but has a great atmosphere. We were hungry by the time we arrived at 1, only to remember that Italy all but shuts down between 2 and 6 for those all important Nanna naps. Luckily found some food and drink before exploring this pretty little townRead more
Traveler Looking forward to your travels in Italy. I haven't seen much of it but loved what I did. Well except Venice. A place you have to go at least once in your life, but so many other places to go.

Traveler Not sure we'll be spending much time in Italy, so many other places to see and we saw a fair bit of Italy in 2022...there are some places I'd like to go back to though.

Lake Como

Lake Como in Italys northern lake region is of glacial origin, dating back to the last Ice Age, around 10,000 years ago. It’s famous ‘Y’ shape was formed from the movement of an enormous glacier, which also displaced the huge mounds which now form the promontory, known as Bellagio which divides the two ‘legs’ of the lake. It is Europe’s deepest lake (410 metres at its deepest) and the third largest on the continent, with a perimeter of 170km. It is fed by the icy waters of the Adda River. We stayed in Lecco, one of the quieter larger towns at the base of the right leg. We enjoyed a scenic boat cruise yesterday, and did some town hopping between the villages of Bellagio and Como as well.Read more

Der Hunger trieb mich nach Lecco 😋
In Wiki stand die Stadt mit dem schönsten Panorama. Hab's mal 📷

Dieses Mal hab ich den erst besten Parkplatz genommen und musst zum Centro noch 1,5 km gehen.

Das erste Centro, das ich gefunden habe, war das Centro di Commerziale (Einkaufszentrum).
Da gab's lecker Panini 🥪

Nach Ewigkeiten kam ich im wirklichen Tour-Zentrum an und eigentlich war ich dort auch schon mal 😂Read more

Am morgen wollte ich während Xenia Vorlesung hatte eigentlich noch zu einem Friedhof, der letztes Mal schon geschlossen war als ich da war und was soll ich sagen? Als ich schon fast da war habe ich nochmal gegoogelt wo genau ich hin muss und da stand dass der montags auch geschlossen ist.. bin dann nur in ein Cafe und habe gefrühstückt. Dann habe ich meine Sachen auch schon gepackt, habe mich verabschiedet und bin mit dem Zug nach Lecco gefahren. Bin dort dann erst durch die Stadt gelaufen und habe natürlich wieder ein Eis gegessen. Dann bin ich noch ne Stunde zu einer Badestelle spaziert, denn ich Lecco selbst gibt es leider keine. Auf dem Rückweg habe ich mir dann noch eine Pizza für 6,50€ gekauft, bin damit zum Hostel und habe mit Xenia und dann Olli telefoniert.Read more

Last night we walked into town for the Lake and Mountain Festival. It was a wonderful party atmosphere and included a regatta and more than 30 minutes of incredible fireworks (the noise reverberated off the mountains all around us). We somehow managed to slip through into a ‘members only’ club right on the water front and had a sensational view!
The very hot weather has continued and our days tend to go something like this - Lake swimming in the late morning, siesta in the afternoon in front of the fan, icy aperitif on the terrace in the evening and sleeping with the fan and wet towels. Not so bad really.Read more

Nach viel längerer Fahrt, als gedacht, kamen wir in Lecco am Lago di Como an. Wir waren froh darum, nicht mehr auf dem Töff sitzen zu müssen und um eine kühle Dusche.
Es wurden wieder ca. 450 km und 10 h Fahrt.Read more

Train delays, missed connections so a later than expected arrival into Lecco. Fab Airbnb accommodation. Managed to fit in a ride around town and short 35km ride along the river cycleway.

Lecco appears to be the favoured stop for the motorbikers who are doing a Lake Como loop. A 3 day Moto Guzzi Festival meant it was motorbike heaven!Read more
