      Milano

      August 17, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

      Milan with Christie

      July 29, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

I had the best weekend ever!!!! Yesterday I flew to milan to hang out with Christie for the last two days of her holiday, the plane was really empty and I managed to get a full row to myself :). First thing we did was have lunch. We got a margarita pizza and mushroom pasta which were both incredibly delicious. The pasta has a bit more of a taste than normal, I thought it faintly tasted like gingerbread, very subtle but definitely nicer. The pasta sauce was cream based but not as rich as i expected, it tasted amazing but I'd imagine I'd be able to eat way more before I would start to feel sick. Easily up there with some of the best pasta I've had :), the pizza was pretty normal. After lunch we went and saw some landmarks (Duomo di Milano Cathedral & Galleria Vittoria Emanuele) we explored for a couple of hours and got granitas afterwords because it was quite warm. For dinner we were still a little full from lunch so we just got wine and a cheese platter with heaps of sauces and bread. It all tasted so good but I was most surprised by the cherry tomatoes, usually I don't like tomatoes but these ones were really nice. We also got ravioli but were too full to eat it so ended up saving it for breakfast. One weird thing about dinner was that they served us our wine in bowls??? We tried to look up if thats a thing that happens sometimes but couldn't find much, very weird. Yesterday was definitely one of the highlights of my trip so far.

Today the mood was a lot more sombre. We woke up and explored a Saturday food market, ate some figs, and then slowly made our way to the airport. Christies flight was a few hours before mine so we both ended up waiting at her gate saying goodbye for quite a long time, it wasn't very nice :/.

      Jour 7 - Ciao Italia 🇮🇹

      July 28, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

      It's a hard life

      October 23, 2023 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

This morning we said goodbye to our mosquito infested room and the sinking city of Venice before jumping on a 2 hour train to the city of fashion - Milan.

We got to Milan early in the day and were immediately impressed with the architecture and cleanliness of the city (especially compared to Venice). We were able to drop out bags off at the accommodation before venturing into the city to check out the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping mall, which had absolutely stunning architecture and was filled with brands and stores that we were too poor to even look at.

We then explored the Duomo di Milano - a Gothic cathedral, which is actually one of the largest cathedrals in the world and took over 600 years to complete. This was one of the most beautiful and impressive buildings I have ever seen, definitely top 3 buildings.

We headed to a fancy cafe for lunch, which ended up being one of Starbucks flagship stores where they roasted the beans in store - it was like a coffee Willy Wonka land. It was nice also having a drink that wasn't espresso or cappuccinos.

We headed back to the accommodation afterwards, and went out in search of a laundromat, the first one we went to had a 60 minute wait, but we found luck at another one an extra 20 minutes away.

After the clothes were washed and returned back into their packing cubes we got dressed for the evening and headed out on the town.

And by town I mean a spa - we went to QC Termemilano which is a day spa. Because travelling for almost 2 months and not working is obviously super stressful, we decided to pamper ourselves to 2 hours of relaxing in some saunas and thermal spas.

The coolest part of this spa is some of the rooms they have on offer - my favourite being a cinema room where all walls are LEDs and it simulates a storm and rain pours from the ceiling.

After an exhausting few hours relaxing we headed back on the Metro to the accommodation before turning in for the night before a big travel day tomorrow.

      Step count: 26k

      See you in Switzerland!!

      Milano motorway madness

      June 27, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Another travel day! After all the exploring in north eastern Andalucia, it was naturally time to make our way towards Switzerland 🇨🇭!

Had a pretty casual morning with another training run and packing the luggage. Our host dropped us off at the Malaga airport for our flight to the regional airport outside Milan, in Bergamo.

Of course the airport is a way out, so we took the shuttle bus into Milan.

As our luck would have it, A's luggage was missing upon arrival!? It's a bus, and we put them into the hold ourselves! Amazingly a good semeritan, Palo, found it on the motorway and contacted us on WhatsApp at the same time we were scratching our heads 😵‍💫. Apparently that side hatch wasn't secured properly. The driver did pull over at one point but we thought it was a regular stop. Another rider mentioned they saw our bag on the side of the road. Why, oh why didn't our driver pick it up or announce anything? 😭 An hour and a half, and an extra kilometre of speed walking to meet Palo later we had our bag. Surprisingly the Osprey roller duffle wasn't damaged!

We checked into our hotel very sweaty on thus 28C day. A cold birra helped! 🍻

Off for a nice simple dinner nearby turned into another adventure 😮‍💨. The restaurant was busy and the food look great, but the servers didn't deliver, even when we tried to get their attention. Over an hour later we were satisfied enough with our Aperol Spritz and appy pizza that we cut our losses and moved on. The pizza place across from our hotel was enjoyable and quick! It was time to rest before the train to Zermatt, Switzerland the next day.

      Well, its different.

      June 22, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 84 °F

Syd and Ralph headed out to a nail salon down the street to get Syd a touch up. On the way a man was sharpening his shank on a concrete street post while holding out his hat for money. There is graffiti everywhere, and not the pretty kind. It’s sad, really. Beautiful facades defaced from the ground to eye level. It makes the place look like the shit parts of Oakland.

      Syds not comfortable here alone.

      Our new best friend

      May 2, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

So, after receiving a recommendation of where to go this evening for somewhere to eat (thanks Cheryl Davies), unfortunately it was the other side of Milan. So we resolved to return to the lovely restaurant we visited yesterday. And we were welcomed back like long lost family. Francesco, the owner/chef, came over to greet us personally, and to thank us for coming back. We were then given additional food and drink throughout the evening and were thoroughly spoiled.
      Fantastic.

      Kis esti séta

      September 16, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

Szóval ő lemozogta a kaját 😁😁

      September 26, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Ciao!

Trauman runtelemat matkatoverit kommentoivat:

      - Ida: "Tunti huoneesta lähdön jälkeen pää lyö edelleen tyhjää. En ole tällaista ennen kokenut"
      - Juho: "Hyvät kokemukset dormimajoituksesta romahtivat hetkessä unholaan. Puolalainen toverimme on muistanut suolakurkkunsa syödä."

      ¡Arrivederci!
