      Outstanding Ostuni

      September 14, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

First up: fantastic break to our go go go schedule! This morning we went to a small locals’ only town: Torre Canne. We could simply relax and live the slow paced Italian lifestyle. Meandering around town, sipping espresso ☕️ in a tiny cafe, relaxing on La Zanza beach 🏖️ and drinking Aperol Spritz 🍹 under seaside umbrellas, surrounded by locals going swimming in whatever they feel comfortable in… You can simply take off your clothes & swim in your jocks: nobody cares, judges or objects. This is fantastic way to take a break!
      💚🤍❤️

A charming town of around 32,000 residents, Ostuni is most famous for its white painted old town which forms a maze of cobbled streets and narrow staircases. Reminded me of a Greek island. Very similar architecture and white washed buildings.

First founded by an indigenous tribe some 600 years before Christ. All of these towns are so different because barbarians/people from so many other countries travelled by boat to the south of Italy because it was very easy to get here. They brought their own style to Italy, and created many different looking towns in this area.

The inhabitants of Ostuni decided to paint the houses white so that the sunlight, reflected on the walls, would blind enemies intent on attacking the city.

Ostuni is commonly referred to as "the White Town" (La Città Bianca in Italian) for its white walls and its typically white-painted architecture.

Devoured a delicious Panini with turnips and ham for lunch… It was extremely delicious 😋

On the way to our hotel, we stopped in at a Olive Grove to try typical Olive 🫒 oil which is native to Puglia region. Two of the trees 🌳 were over 1000 years old!

      Ostuni

      September 6, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

      July 27, 2023 in Italy ⋅ 🌙 23 °C

Cez den sme sa teda opalovali, plavali, skumali vedlajsie plaze (rozumej ja), citali knizky, lustili sudoku (rozumej pani M) a popijali caj, pivko a prosecco (rozumej obaja). Od ranajok sme boli v celom areali len my dvaja a jeden sympaticky nemecky par, takze uplna parada. No a to jedlo !!! Na pripitok sme hned dostali vino a k nemu opeceny chlebik a malu porciu lososoveho tataracika. Na predjedlo sme si dali tatarak z podolice (sivy dobytok z oblasti Puglie , vid. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podolica) s horcicovou zmrzlinou (ja) a surove cervene krevety na zazvore (pani M). K tomu pohar lokalneho bieleho vina (z 20km vziadelenej vinice). No a potom to prislo, hlavne jedlo. Pani M si dala mix morskeho certa, kalamara, slavok a korovca na chilli kreme s citronovou travou a vermutovym sorbetom. Ja som mal filet z brucha cerveneho tuniaka na kreme zo zeleneho korenia s rukolou. Bolo to fantasticke. Vlastne som zistil, ze som doteraz tuniaka asi este nikdy nejedol 😄. Pre mna to bolo naozaj gastro orgazmo. Fakt neviem, ci to nebolo najlepsie jedlo, ake som kedy jedol 🤷‍♂️. A dobre sme urobili. Pani M zvolila vegansku mandlovu panna cottu s mrkvou, citronovou zmrzlinou a mandlovym nugatom. Nasledovala prechadzka nocnym Ostuni, namestie Slobody (Piazza della Libertà) s barokovym stlpom (guglia) venovanym sv. Oronzovi (zachranil mesto pred morom - mor, nie more 😅), kostol sv. Vita, goticka katedrala Panny Marie, biskupsky palac, obluk Arco Scoppa a mnoho dalsieho - este aj pred polnocou vsade zastupy ludi, niektori len prichadzali do restauracii. Proste to tam v noci zilo, vsetko krasne nasvietene. Nafotil som asi tisic fotiek, dnes sa bude tazko robit vyber. Po navrate uz iba pohar prosecca a padli sme utahani do postele. Zajtra (teda uz dnes) nas caka dalsi vylet.Read more

      La Città Bianca

      Ostuni - die weiße Stadt

      November 11, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

      Minori to Ostuni and Puglia

      September 20, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

A drive from the Amalfi Coast to Puglia and our Airbnb in Ostuni, known for its whitewashed old town. The journey was through a bleak, bare landscape on roads that had constant roadworks which slowed us down (though seemingly, no workers!). Once nearing the coast, the landscape changed to numerous olive groves before arriving at our destination.

Our apartment was situated in a narrow stepped street, one of many heading uphill opposite the old town of the ‘White City’. A steep set of stone steps led up to the lounge/dining area, a small kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. A further set of steps led to a second bedroom and a terrace with dining area, followed by further steps up to a second terrace. Fantastic views of the old city and the olive groves heading towards the sea!

Read more

      Ostuni

      July 19, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

This morning, we drove through many groves of olive trees thousands of years old on our way to Ostuni. We are in the Puglia region and it is home to the artisan Italian olive industry.

Ostuni is a unique town rising up from the flat plains near the Adriatic coast. Its whitewashed walls and houses with winding streets make you think you're somewhere in Greece. It is known as the 'white town'.Read more
