      Positano

      August 5 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Took a 1 hour ferry to Positano with stunning views of the coast. Positano isn’t huge and building on new sites is banned in order to retain the town’s charm. We didn’t spend long in the town centre before catching a taxi way up the hill to a restaurant for lunch. This place had been recommended to us by friends in Adelaide and it really was incredible. No choice in the menu but the food was delicious. Way too much to eat with the traditional antipasto, pasta, meat and dessert courses.

We took the local bus back to the town centre after lunch. What an experience! Jam packed with locals and drunk tourists who had just finished a full day cooking school. The bus was very small, to fit around tight counters and narrow streets. Scary! Then one local pulled out a microphone and speaker and got the whole bus singing! Very, very funny.

After that bus trip we were so hot and sweaty that we went for a swim. Most of the beach front has expensive paid reclining chairs with umbrellas leaving a small area for free swimming. Nothing like Australian beaches with black organic sand and pebbles. Very salty water that wasn’t that cold, but we were desperate!

Lovely ferry ride home in the cool evening 😊

      Amalfi hopping 🌊☀️

      July 18, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

"1 influencer holiday please" - Alfred
Today we hopped around from Napoli to Bomerano, hiked the Path of the Gods around to Positano and finally jumped on a bus over the mountains to Sorrento! The hike followed the cliff line around the point so we got close to 360° views of the sea and the coast. Positano was gorgeous but also packed with people and kind of overwhelming because every second person was hardcore posing in their white linen dress or bikini trying to get Insta shots - I respect the hustle but it was impossible to move without getting in someone's photo by accident! We went for a swim under the colourful houses and had most of the swimming area to ourselves because Europeans like to stand in a line at chest-depth just off the sand because no one can swim 🤠 The beaches here are also volcanic and have black sand which gets unbelievably hot in the sun which was a fun added challenge! The bus trip over to Sorrento went along the cliff line too which would have been the best views of the day if we hadn't done the hike! Sorrento offended me greatly because they had no free beaches and as an Australian I consider it my God Given Right to swim at at beach. So we found some other Aussies and hopped over a sea wall and clambered down some rocks to have a swim just outside the fenced off area (dodging the SNAV's waves on the way in and out 😳). We then stumbled upon the only reasonably priced lemoncellos in all of Sorrento in what felt like some picnic furniture in an Italian Nonna's back yard which were just ridiculously strong and when combined with maybe a little bit of dehydration went straight to the brain. One train ride later we were back in Napoli and stopped for the best pasta of the trip so far at a restaurant on our way home to a big sleep!Read more

      Amalfi Coast

      August 27, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

After our lazy day yesterday we were up early and back on the local train back to Naples to meet up with our tour bus that would take us along the Amalfi Coast. They call the road Mama Mia, as it is skinny and windy and when you watch the way the buses navigate the tight corners and windy road.

The scenery was amazing and our first stop was Positano which is a beautiful village with it’s narrow winding paths down to the beach. Shame we only got an hour here, but we would love to come back and explore the coast. Pete couldn’t resist a swim in the Mediterranean. Then it was back on the bus and off to Amalfi where we hopped on a boat and cruised the coast checking out the beaches and the celebrity houses along the coast. We found a boat that looks like the one we should have! Haha!

We then had lunch at a restaurant on the beach and had yum seafood Spaghetti and a new drink, a lemon spritz using limoncello, Prosecco, soda and limone gelati, very yum and refreshing.

Our last stop was Revalla (not how you spell it) where there was fantastic views of the coastline and some wonderful ceramic showrooms. Pete nearly had a table shipped home!

I took a travel sickness tablet (due to windy roads) and so I slept all the way back to Naples. A great taste of the Amalfi Coast and definitely a place we would like to go back to.

When we got back to the apartment we cooled off in the tiny pool in the garden of our BnB and made another platter that we ate overlooking the garden. We went upstairs to the terrace and watched the sunset. A great end to a wonderful day, our last night in Italy! Off to Greece tomorrow.

      Chill Positano Day

      July 25, 2023 in Italy ⋅ 🌙 28 °C

Today we had a sleep in and recharge, getting up at only 11am! Got some fresh eggs at the market and made brunch in our Airbnb together. Met Fang a local neighbourhood cat on the balcony after breakfast, and Matt decided to stay home with him for the day. Kandis and Sarah headed down the million stairs to Positano for a beach and local shopping adventure. We enjoyed the large waves and then found some gelato for an afternoon treat. We wandered the streets browsing local shops and making a few small purchases (only things that fit in our backpacks). For lunch we enjoyed pesto pasta and gnocchi while Matt had a salad above in Montepertuso in between his naps. Kandis and Sarah then braved the lines and crowds flagging down their bus and forcing their way on. Matt had kept the keys so Sarah climbed through the stairs railing to let her and Kandis back in. Now reunited as a trio we headed for dinner and then finished our night with drinks, a game of Mario party and late night snack.Read more

      Positano

      May 30 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Read more

      AMALFI COAST

      March 20 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

my beautiful willo took me on a day trip to the Amalfi coast! It was so beautiful, I could’ve cried. So picturesque. No one tells you about the amount of stairs there are to climb though, it was well and truly a workout. We made lunch from goodies in the local supermarket, hopped on the train and got ourself to sorrento and Positano.Read more

      Day 2 in Positano

      October 8, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

This place is one of a kind! I love it and want to come back with all my kids.
Started with a morning jog ( only up or down 😳), then breakfast overlooking Tyrrhenian Sea. Then a walk DOWN to the main town/ beach area and Austin did his thing and made reservations for us to spend the day at a private beach club called Arienzo Beach. A quick boat ride to the beach for the day. We returned and grabbed our daily gelato. Took a quick nap and headed to dinner for some great pizza. Finished the night with a hot tub looking at the sea at night. Definitely bummed to leave this place.Read more

    • Day 18 - Boat Day along Amalfi Coast

      July 27, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Today we had organised a boat day along the Amalfi Coast.

After breakfast we caught the ferry to Amalfi and we went to our favourite shop - the pharmacy - with Katie drugged up on sea legs we headed to meet the tour.

The tour took us along the coast towards Positano with only 10 people on the boat. We got two swims in before getting to Positano. We are still getting used to the saltier Mediterranean Sea!

Once at Positano we got transferred by water taxi to walk around the town for 2 hours. Grabbed some lunch from a bakery, katie got a lemon slushie drink on the way down to the boat.
We are glad we are staying in Minori considering the crowds in Positano at this point!

Once back on the boat they took us down the coast to Minori & Maiori and another 2 swims. At this point my back had found a nice pink colour Katie had made me aware of.

Once back in Amalfi we headed for a bite and a few drinks and found the town very busy, so we opted to head back to Minori to get a pizza and sit on the beach.

      Positano und Rückfahrt

      May 20, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C
